Chapter 81 - 10th Floor Mission
Chapter 81: 10th Floor Mission
He did just as he was told, and a rather large map opened up in front of him.
There were several points marked on the map. Five red dots and three blue dots.
The red ones said: Danger, Local Boss!
And the blue ones said: Mission Pending!
Each was scattered around the map.
He opened the missions.
"It tells me I have to get two keys and a cube. The keys I get from the dungeons [Pantheon of the Bloody Mummies] and [Bat Cave]..." He was interrupted as he spoke.
"The cube you get from [Farenhirtz Castle]?" Laura asked.
He nodded.
"Haha, right. The system recognized us as a group, since it gave us the same missions. That’s good." She smiled. "Follow me. Let’s teleport over there."
They walked through the city until they came to a small teleport tower.
"Where are you headed?" Asked who was attending to them.
"To the nearest point of the Pantheon of the Bloody Mummies, the Bat Cave, and Farenhirtz Castle."
"Pantheon, Cave, and Castle, eh. Nice chain of quests." The man smiled and nodded. "I confirm... The closest point is at the intersection of the Red Hill River with the Yellow rocks... You will have each Dungeon about 4-5 kilometers away in a westerly, northerly, and southerly direction. The River is a good place to camp, too."
"Very well, please."
"Very good. It’s 300 Jens per person. Since you are Royal Academy students, do you pay now or would you like me to add it to a bill to be paid?"
"Uh... Go to the bill. Our names..."
"No need." Louis stepped forward and put six 100 Jens bills on the table. "Cash." He spoke.
"Hahaha." The man began to laugh. "Money will always amaze women, little one. Do it as many times as it takes, and you’ll see that this beauty will one day fall into your arms." After joking, he grabbed the money and told them to move to the teleportation area.
"Tsk." Laura complained, giving Louis a sidelong glance. "I’d forgotten you were rich."
"Hahaha. Well, when you hang out with me, there’s no need to worry about money. I like to spend."
She rolled her eyes and didn’t answer him anymore. He had just said he liked to splurge money, but that’s how rich people are.
They’re always like that.
Louis had simply said it because if he spent, he would get stronger. It was a win-win situation.
Soon, they were teleported to the designated spot.
The sound of rushing water and crashing rocks was the first thing to reach their ears. As they opened their eyes, a simple visual wonder entered their eyes.
The crystal clear river in front of them ran downhill along with small and large fish that seemed to dance happily. This river flowed down from a hill of red rocks.
The river met yellow rocks that glittered like gold in the sun.
After colliding, they would diverge and their course would change to another direction.
"The views are amazing." Louis praised.
"Right? This is the first time I’ve seen this area, too." Laura smiled.
They didn’t last long enjoying the scenery. It was time to get moving, as they needed to pass three different dungeons, and these dungeons were not like the previous floors.
They were with varying trials, and people might be trying to get the same items as them, so they needed to hurry.
The first dungeon they chose to explore was the Pantheon of the Bloody Mummies in the West.
"Let’s hurry. Let’s try to clear at least two dungeons before dark." Laura said, and they both ran across the large floor.
To say it was like a different world was entirely accurate. There were forests, valleys, mountains, little birds singing, and beasts walking everywhere.
Many of those were not hostile to them, so they didn’t have to kill anyone, until they got to the Pantheon.
’The architecture is like that of the ancient Greek era on earth.’ He thought. Though much smaller.
The columns were barely 1.5 meters high and 30 centimeters thick.
They had to duck to get inside. Even Laura’s sniper rifle was quite a bit bigger than these columns. Luckily, there were no beasts above, other than some very low-level undead.
"It’s down." Laura said as they reached the entrance, a flight of stairs down.
Louis braced himself and nodded. "Come on. I’ll lead the way from here. Anything runs to a place to attack."
"Okay."
The stairs were a little slippery, so they had to be careful. As they descended, they found that they gradually had more room to stand, to the point that soon, there was even a distance of 3 meters upwards.
The sound of footsteps began to echo below them, announcing to him that they were reaching the end of the stairs and that they were no longer slippery.
Before they reached the bottom, they stopped and looked at each other.
"Did you hear it?"
"A scream, right?"
"Yes."
"Was it from above?"
"No. It was from below." Louis was sure, so he put his finger on the trigger and looked straight ahead.
Then he started back down silently, even counted the steps.
Fifteen steps later, they reached the bottom of the stairs.
The sunlight no longer reached here.
Darkness developed before them, forcing Laura to pull out a Rune of fire to light the room.
Just then, a strange noise emerged from the room. It sounded like something crawling.
At the same time, the same scream echoed from deep within. It made the hairs on both of their bodies stand on end.
Whatever happens...
That scream was not from someone alive.
The illumination of the rune soon allowed them to see the room.
Just then, Louis turned sharply and shot backwards.
BAM*
The shot hit squarely into a cadaverous face filled with strange blood and covered in strange bandages.
Then it exploded.
Laura also dropped the rune and grabbed her gun to shoot back at Louis. Despite being a sniper, her shot was quick and managed to shatter another cadaverous face.
The rune on the ground continued to illuminate, and they were both struck dumb by what they saw.
They had sarcophagi in front and behind them, even on the walls and ceiling. Many open, some closed.
But all seemed to emit a terrifying wailing sound, and they soon realized.
They were surrounded.
