Chapter 79: Entering the Tower of the Red Sun
Chapter 79: Entering the Tower of the Red Sun
Louis did not respond. His silence was enough.
There were many people here, even though the entrance to the Tower was restricted. Everyone wanted to get in and try it out.
Luckily, they were students of the Royal Academy; they had certain entry privileges, so they could enter without any problems.
"We have potions and weapons ready, right?" Laura asked before crossing a darkened curtain that covered everything. "From this curtain, we will enter a new world. To the Tower of the Red Sun."
"Everything is ready."
"Good."
She led the way, and they crossed the curtain simultaneously.
They were teleported, but almost unknowingly.
They appeared above a large, slightly darkened corridor, with occasional torches.
"Luckily, we got a clear hallway. That’s the good thing about coming early." She smiled.
Inspecting the surroundings, there were no signs of fighting in this area. There were no beasts nearby. But deep in the corridor, Louis’ perception began to pick up certain presences.
Some were at rest, some were in motion, and some seemed to roar. But there was no sign of a fight, not for now.
Next to him, Laura took out some special glasses and put them on. Then she seemed to configure some things for them. It was an item.
"Don’t you have Armamentalist glasses?" She asked, looking Louis up and down, as if inspecting him.
He shook his head. "No. I don’t think I need them. I’ll fight up front anyway."
"Haha, I guess you’re right." She summoned her weapon for the first time in front of Louis.
As an armamentalist, her weapon was also a firearm. But it was pretty large.
’A rifle. So, she’s a sniper.’ He thought, slightly amazed.
A while ago, Hardrial told him about the distances of a shot and that his shots could not reach that far, because of the limitation of his level. That meant he couldn’t be a Sniper.
But she was.
’Apparently, I underestimated her. She must be quite strong.’
She reloaded her gun with different bullets that were ready to be fired.
"I wonder if 150 Runes will be enough." She said suddenly.
"Sure they will. Otherwise, you’ll be in for a hand-to-hand fight," Louis joked.
"Haha... that would be problematic. I’m terrible at it. But you’ll have to make time for me if I run out of bullets. I’ll have to work on them during the fights." She said and winked at him.
She then pulled out a secondary weapon, a short-range shotgun, and reloaded it with bullets as well.
"You use two guns?"
"Only in emergencies. Although there are times when I use it as my primary weapon."
"Oh."
She took more than fifteen minutes to get ready.
When she was done, she looked at Louis and asked, "Aren’t you getting ready?"
Louis smiled softly and opened his arms a little. The jacket covering his body then exposed a pile of pistol cartridges, a gun, and even magic scrolls at the ready.
"I’m always prepared."
"Haha... sorry then. I underestimated you. I didn’t expect that at all." Her eyes even twinkled, but since they were both ready, they immediately started to move in.
Louis was a step ahead, while she kept a perfect peripheral vision right behind him.
"Is your current strength above 60 points?" she asked suddenly.
Louis nodded. "Yes. Why?"
"Let’s skip the first four floors, then. It would be a waste not to take advantage of your strength and our distances, to kill on Floor 5 onwards."
"Are you sure? Your strength, how is it?"
"Haha, you must not underestimate me, Louis." She said and pulled out a small gold badge and some additional badges from her inventory. Then she pinned it to her chest.
Louis frowned at the sight of it.
It had the number 9 on it.
"That’s... Rank 9?"
"Hehe. That’s right, I’m currently ranked 9th. My level is pretty high, so let’s go deeper. Floor 1 is for rookies."
After that, they started running faster. They couldn’t pass floor one without killing, so after a long run, almost reaching the portal that would take them to the second floor, a group of five tall, goblin-like beasts stood in the way.
Laura leaped through the air, aimed her sniper directly at them, and fired.
BAM*
The shot rang out, and in an instant, three beasts fell dead from a single bullet.
As she fell to the ground, she witnessed Louis’ movements.
He ran to the front and passed through the rather large beasts. These attacked him, but were unable to hit him.
Their blows hit the empty ground, and he was already behind them. By his movement, he had managed to get them both lined up like the previous three.
Then he pointed his gun back and fired.
The shot went through the two heads, and they fell to the ground, motionless, as their heads burned from the residual magic.
Even though they were very low-level, Louis was too. Killing them meant going up 1 level.
"Not bad. That was a great shot. Looks like you’ve got some great magic power too."
They both walked through the portal, straight to the second floor.
The second floor wasn’t too different. The strength wasn’t too far-fetched here either. Although stronger than those on the first floor, they didn’t even compare to the undead beast he had killed earlier.
[You have leveled up]
He climbed one level on that floor before moving on to floor 3.
On those floors, he encountered only various types of goblins and very weak beasts, such as wolves.
On floor 3, he didn’t even have to kill.
The same on floor 4.
When he reached floor 5, the atmosphere changed.
A strange atmospheric pressure surrounded every corner, and the smell of dry bones flooded the olfactory tract. There was also the smell of iron or blood.
"The undead are coming now, Louis. From here on, I think you can go up a level. But actually, we should be able to go up to Floor 10 with no problem. The minimum strength for that place is 40 stat points. It would just be a waste to lose valuable experience."
"I understand. Then let’s go."
As they walked towards the inside of this corridor, the different types of undead attacked them in swarms. But it was easy enough to cross the 5th, 6th, and 7th floor.
Louis climbed four levels in those three floors, reaching Level 18 very easily.
It was so easy that Laura even began to suspect Louis was above 80 stat points in his stats.
It was on the 8th floor that they finally encountered some difficulty.
"Oh..." Louis’s eyes flashed brightly as he saw four slightly familiar undead beasts.
"Leave them to me." He said, with a sinister smile.
They looked just like the undead he had faced a while back, the one that made things difficult for him in that forest.
At that time, he had an uphill battle until he managed to kill it. But now he wanted revenge—or rather, he wanted to see how strong he had become.
