Chapter 77: The dangerous Tower of the Red Sun
"That’s because there are connections that are unnecessary or can be shortened. I’ve seen people create giant Arcane Rhythms to invoke something small. It doesn’t make sense. Instead of saying the basic chant I said a while ago, I could choose to say..."
"Oh, God of Fire, attend to my invocation and lend me your power to burn my enemies."
"If I say that and mix it with my Magical Power to create the Rune in my head, the result would be the same."
Louis nodded, understanding better.
"If the result is the same, why then teach the other Rune which is longer and less accurate?"
Hardrial smiled.
"That’s what I was getting at. The longer a basic Rhythm is, the less magic power it consumes. It becomes tedious to listen to, so your intent on the Threads tends to attenuate slowly. That’s why they’re taught, they’re easier to use and learn, because you need to learn to control the intent."
He finally understood why, and it made perfect sense.
It was interesting what could be accomplished with a few words they called Rituals.
After long explanations, Hardrial showed them the way to learn how to do them, so they practiced.
It wasn’t until 6 p.m., when the sun began to set, that everyone realized that the day had passed.
Most people from the Academy had already left, and they were among the few remaining students.
"Go back and practice slowly. Now, starting tomorrow, the two of you will go to the Red Sun Tower. You will train there and increase your level; it is the best dungeon to do so."
Then Hardrial looked at Louis. "The Red Sun Tower dungeon is a high-level dungeon, but the starting levels are not that powerful, so you can level there and gradually work your way up. You should note that, to participate in the Tournament of the Ascended, you need to reach Floor 10 at least."
"I understand, Professor Hardrial. But I have no idea where that place is."
"Don’t worry about that. There is an entrance to that place from the Academy. Just come here and I’ll take you there."
"Very well."
Professor Hardrial came out first, and a little further behind came Louis and Laura.
"Did you manage to understand anything about the Arcane Rhythms?" She asked.
"Well, the basics for now. The knowledge read earlier will help me quite a bit, so I’ll review it later."
"Hehe, can I come to your place to read it too? I think that grimoire has a lot of important information, which will help me understand it."
Louis gave her a sidelong glance, but nodded.
"Okay, now?"
"No, no. Tomorrow night after I get back or in the weekend. Just give me the address and I’ll come."
"Okay."
Louis wrote the address on paper and handed it to her.
She frowned. "The Industrial District? You live so far away!" He exclaimed.
"Haha, yeah, for managing business." He replied.
"Business?" She turned to look at him systematically. "What business?"
"Uh..." Louis didn’t know what to say. He needn’t have said that, for his business was pretty shady, if he thought about it carefully. So, he casually replied, "I have some industrial business there."
Laura’s eyes sparkled with astonishment.
"Really?"
He nodded.
"Amazing... no wonder you said some expensive things, they were cheap. So you’re just like your brothers."
An embarrassed smile crossed Louis’ face.
Brothers...haha, he didn’t even know their names.
As they walked and talked casually, they left the Academy. After a while, they separated and went their separate ways.
Each was thinking about what they had learned today, wanting to improve faster.
--
Soon dawn broke, and the next day opened with a good ray of sunshine. The weather was curious these days.
Louis and Laura arrived at the same time, quite early that day.
"Louis, do you want to team up? I can help you level up on the lower floors before we start ascending to the upper floors. We’ll have 2 months to just go up that tower, after all."
"Is that dungeon hard?" He asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"Quite difficult. Do you see how strong Professor Hardrial is? He is the best positioned inside the Tower of those attending the Academy in the entire Empire, but he has barely reached the 70th Floor... Maybe the 75th." She said, but she didn’t let him speak.
"Besides, the most powerful man in the city and one of the most powerful in the Empire, Lord Dan of Lockward, I heard he was around the 80th floor, and the last time he went, he almost died."
’My uncle?" Louis raised his eyebrow. He didn’t know Dan was the most powerful guy in town. Still, if he could only make it to the 80th floor and almost died, that place was dangerous.
"Besides, this you may already know." She added. "Because it’s about your father, the Lord of Habsburg, he went the farthest and reached Floor 90. Yet, when he did, it was Level 1,000!" She exclaimed with some adoration.
Louis suddenly started coughing, but quickly disguised it.
’A thousand? God... I think, reaching that level, he’d be Transcending Humanity by now or even be a Saint, wouldn’t he?’ He thought.
It is common knowledge that there is a rather extensive Scale divided into levels. From 1 to 100 the name given to them is Human Son of and the rank of their father or mother (depending on which is the strongest).
For example, Louis is a Human son of God, which means he is within that category of ranks.
If he were to ascend to Level 101, he would no longer be called a "Human son of God" and would be called an "Experienced Human".
Higher up are ranks such as Human Master, etc.
It is a relatively simple scale of ranks to understand, because everything is divided into levels. In addition, each Rank has its own peculiarities. It may be the case that someone at Level 200 has the same stats as a Level 301, but Level 301 is already a Human Master.
His Human ability has increased, and his skills have evolved, allowing him to gain easily, although his stats remain the same.
This is why leveling up is so important.
Although it is still possible for lower levels to beat higher levels, it’s just not common.
