Chapter 76: Arcane Rhythms

Arcane Rhythms are represented as words with power, rituals, or even chants with magical power and intent. It is easier to give intention to words, after all. Also, when you try to make an energy resonate with you, you find it easier to call it out than to simply think it.

After all, the Threads are in the environment.

They are usually used to create a massive amount of Power Runes before a fight, so that you don’t run out of supply, but during long-duration fights, it’s common to see fighters use these types of rituals for massive attacks.

Now, why are they called Magic Rituals? It’s simple: because your chant or words are directed to the God you want to get that magical power from.

There are four basic chants.

Addressed to the God of Fire: Oh, God of Fire, heed my call and bring me the joy of summoning a portion of your power; the power to burn my enemies.

Addressed to the God of Air: Oh, God of Wind, attend me and come to my rescue. Let me employ your power to destroy my enemies.

Addressed to the God of Earth: Dear Father of our Mother Earth, heed my call and bring with you the power of endurance, of great strength, and nature. Let me use the power of Mother Earth.

Finally, the one addressed to the Goddess of Water: Valiant Goddess, reigning ruler of the waters, whose presence eclipses the heavens and colors them with her brush, let me use the power of the deep.

Although there is one more God, the chant to invoke him is unknown, as he is the least researched.

In the past, there was a Void Sorcerer who knew his chant, but because of a "mistake", he ended up dead.

Now, these chants don’t need to be followed to the letter and can sometimes be used mentally, so sometimes you don’t need to chant them to activate them. But if you want to use the real power of the Ritual, you must speak it.

Also, those are just basic chants, you can still extend them or create your own, keeping in mind the different types of Titles each God has. At the end of it all, it works exactly like a Ritual, so it fulfills all the conditions of one.

After explaining everything, Hardrial wanted to give them a demonstration. He therefore placed fourteen blank papers on several tables in front of him.

"You’ll see why I say it’s the best way. Also, I will demonstrate with a basic chant and with another one I created. Remember: the more power and respect a chant reflects, the more power it will invoke from the chosen God."

After saying that, he raised his gun and pointed it straight ahead. His finger rested on the trigger, and his figure suddenly seemed to intensify and gain greatness. It wasn’t the greatness of the body; it was something internal.

He looked much more powerful.

He had let his Magical Power pour out of his body in torrents.

"Oh God of Fire..." A voice that seemed to echo through the wind and the walls seemed to want to echo it. "Heed my call and allow me to summon a portion of your power and grant me the power to burn my enemies."

Suddenly, the fourteen blank papers were lit on fire, and a Rune known to all was created there. The fire did not burn the sheet until the Rune was completed.

It happened simultaneously to all.

Hardrial’s unleashed power brought each of these Runes to their surroundings, and they stood ready for use, lit in a smoldering fire.

Impossible to calculate the time they took to create, but it was surely less than a second.

And there were fourteen of them!

Laura felt incredibly excited to see it, but she couldn’t react.

Hardrial moved his other hand and sent another fourteen leaves to the previous places.

Then he pulled out some strange candles and turned off the lights in the room.

"When you create a rhythm for a God, you must find a way to reflect respect. Historically, the best way to venerate a God is through lit candles. So, keep in mind that you can use that way as well. There are other ways, with special items, but I will not use them because they are more advanced."

When he finished arranging the candles, he left them out and pointed his gun again.

"Althéon, God of the Sun and of the Red Flames, Ruler of the Volcanoes, who sits upon them and causes them to explode to destroy your enemies, I call upon your power again with malice aforethought."

In the same manner as the previous time, when he finished his chant, the 14 blank papers ignited mighty flames. This time, the fire seemed to want to burn everything, and the 14 Magic Runes were created with power.

Soon, they were floating and on fire. Hardrial made a slight movement with his gun and drew them towards him. This time, they all piled up on top of the gun, and the bullets inside seemed to twist.

This was a peculiar revolver; it held 14 bullets and had been explicitly made by Hardrial. It didn’t have too much power, but it served him well.

The thing is, all fourteen bullets were reloaded with magic and were ready for firing.

"The power of Arcane Rhythms is amazing, isn’t it?" he smiled.

Laura was most excited and stood up and banged on the table.

"That is undoubtedly amazing, Professor!" She exclaimed. "Will I really be able to learn how to do it?"

"Hahaha, of course. Arcane Rhythms are the next level in creating Runes, but it will be complicated. We will go slowly, starting by using the Words with Power."

"In the sentences I just taught you, there are many words that can be removed and the result would be similar, that’s because they are not Words with Power. They are Connections."

Louis, who had been pensive since he saw what Hardrial was doing, suddenly spoke up.

"Are they the words that replace the connections we make when we create them manually?" He asked.

"Yes." Hardrial nodded. "Without those connections, the Words with Power would have no weight. They would be strong words completely loose from each other; they would not accomplish the purpose for which they were created. And if we only used soft connection-type words, nothing would happen either."

"So, when creating a Rune using Arcane Rhythms, you should keep in mind that Words with Power are just as important as Connections."

"Then why can some connections be removed?"
