Chapter 385: Chapter 409, Indeed It Is I
Early in the morning, before the sky even brightened, Fang Yi crawled out of bed and had just finished washing up when he noticed Xu He’s father feeding the pigs. Fang Yi walked over and said with a smile, "Here, let me help you, Uncle Xu."
Xu He’s father waved his hand and replied, "You are a guest, don’t bother with this work. Let me handle it."
Fang Yi said, "I’ve been eating and drinking at your house for two days now. It’s nothing. Let me do it." As he spoke, he snatched the spoon from Xu He’s father’s hand.
Xu He’s father couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head, but his look at Fang Yi held a profound meaning — a mix of admiration, relief, and the indulgent love of an older generation for the younger.
In just a few moves, Fang Yi had fed the eagerly squealing pigs in the pen. Turning around, he saw Xu He’s father smiling and asked, "Uncle Xu, what’s making you so happy today? Share it with me, and I’ll have a good laugh too."
Xu He’s father patted Fang Yi’s shoulder and asked, "Young man, do you have a girlfriend?"
Fang Yi choked a little inside, unsure how to answer.
Thinking Fang Yi was just shy and found it difficult to speak, Xu He’s father said, "It’s okay to not have a girlfriend. Back in the day, when I was courting Xu He’s mother, all I had was a basket of eggs and a few dollars, and we married amidst hardships. Times are better now. You have to seize the opportunity, Fang. Although Xu He is now a big star, she is genuinely a good person, no boasting here. Don’t look at your aunt and I doing farm work at home; it’s because we prefer not to live a comfortable life in the city. We’re used to working hard, so it’s not that Xu He is unfilial — other people might not know how devoted she is, but we as parents absolutely do..."
Right there in the pigpen, Xu He’s father shared past stories about Xu He with Fang Yi, praising his daughter to the skies. Fang Yi didn’t mind; Xu He deserved all the praise.
When it was time for breakfast, Fang Yi and Xu He’s father washed their hands and ate together. Halfway through, someone came to call Xu He’s father out. It was about the Grey Bone Grass, and because of Xu He, he was elected as the village chief. Thus, many matters required his personal attention.
After breakfast, Fang Yi and Xu He went out for a walk and ended up at the entrance of the village, where Fang Yi realized his car was still parked, covered in dust with its red paint chipped off.
"That’s Binnan’s car, isn’t it?" Xu He noticed immediately.
"Yeah, I came to see you, so I drove her car here," Fang Yi nodded.
"Is she in Southern Domain City now?"
Fang Yi nodded again, suddenly remembering that today was the third day, the time to act against Luo Mingguang. He wasn’t certain if that woman could manage alone. Thinking of her on her own, though Fang Yi trusted her capability, he couldn’t help but worry.
Just then, Xu He suddenly said, "I’m already done with things here."
Fang Yi was taken aback.
Xu He smiled and continued, "Thank you for coming to see me when I felt most helpless and for all the help you’ve given. But I’m fine for now. There must be issues at Binnan’s end, right? How about you go back first? Next time, bring Binnan along to visit me."
Fang Yi nodded, got into the car, and just as he turned it around, he suddenly poked his head out of the window, slightly hesitant, "Uh, I have something to tell you."
Having never seen her so hesitant, Xu He laughed and asked, "What is it?"
Fang Yi said, "It’s nothing major, just... don’t take baths in the pigpen anymore, watch out for paparazzi."
After saying that, without waiting for Xu He to respond, Fang Yi started the car and drove off hastily.
Meanwhile, Xu He was left standing at the village entranceContemplating the connection between bathing and the paparazzi. Wait, could it be... Xu He thought of the possibility that she might have been peeped on the previous night. Could it have been him?
Damn it, that bastard spied on her!
Rather than getting angry, Xu He’s face reddened with embarrassment. She wondered if Fang Yi had seen her body completely or only certain parts. As these thoughts ran through her mind, a deep blush crept across Xu He’s delicately serene face.
Just then, an auntie happened by and, seeing Xu He like this, couldn’t help but tease, "Young lady, your face is as red as a monkey’s butt. Have you run into your ideal man?"
Xu He retorted with a tender snort, "Not at all." Saying so, she fled back like a darting fly.
Meanwhile, in Southern Domain City.
Shen Binnan welcomed a group of people into a suite.
Shen Binnan eyed the group coldly and silently, her face devoid of any smile, icy and rejecting, keeping them at a great distance.
This group included Luo Mingguang, Luo Lin, Luo Gao, and Luo Gao’s father, Luo Mingsen, who ranked second in the Luo family.
As the group entered, Shen Binnan neither poured a cup of water nor asked them to sit but simply sat down on a couch and got straight to the point, "May I know what brings you all here to seek me out?"
Luo Mingguang and the others, not being fools, clearly felt Shen Binnan’s unwelcoming attitude. Luo Mingguang’s daughter, Luo Lin, was quite irritated and coldly chuckled, "Cousin, you really carry quite the air. Is this the face you put on for us who came to see you?"
Shen Binnan glanced at Luo Lin, "You’re Luo Lin, right? You’re young, try not to be so harsh."
Luo Lin still snickered, "That’s just my temperament. Hand over my brother, and we can pretend nothing happened."
Shen Binnan responded, puzzled, "Your brother?"
Standing next to Luo Lin was Luo Gao, who gave a chilling smile, "Cousin Binnan, don’t play dumb. Roger has been missing for two full days, and coincidentally, the day he disappeared was the very day you showed up. Are you saying this has nothing to do with you?"
Shen Binnan’s expression remained unchanged, almost no trace of emotion, as a sardonic smile appeared on her cold face, "So by your reasoning, if you lose money, it must be me who stole it, right?"
Luo Lin and Luo Gao were momentarily at a loss for words, and Luo Mingguang, with a gloomy expression, waved his hand, signaling them to shut up. Luo Mingguang then spoke in a deep voice, "Binnan, we’re not suspecting you. Perhaps Roger didn’t disappear; maybe he just went out. Regarding your marriage, I have another candidate in mind."
Shen Binnan glanced subtly at Luo Gao, "Him?"
Luo Gao lifted his chin proudly, "Indeed! Cousin Binnan, I wonder if you would consider marrying me?"
Shen Binnan smiled indifferently, "Sure, no problem. I have no objections to marrying someone from the Luo family, but what if you, Luo Gao, were to disappear too?"
The normally proud Luo Gao’s face twitched imperceptibly, as if he had been heavily slapped.
Hearing this, both Luo Mingguang and Luo Mingsen immediately darkened their expressions.
"Good, Binnan, a promise is a promise. Let’s settle your marriage with Luo Gao!" Luo Mingguang suddenly revealed a sinister smile, "But rest assured, no one will disappear, you can be sure of that."
Shen Binnan responded lightly, "I hope so."
With nothing more to discuss, Shen Binnan fell silent, her demeanor icy, clearly signaling it was time for them to leave. Just then, the suite door suddenly burst open, and a figure barged in.
Consequently, all eyes immediately turned toward the door, causing Fang Yi to feel somewhat uneasy.
Luo Lin, seeing Fang Yi at the door, exclaimed in surprise, "It’s you?!"
Fang Yi smiled and said, "Indeed, it is I."
