Chapter 216: Chapter 217: They’re Just Nobodies
Song Wuliang chuckled slyly and said, "He and I are not of the same kind. I have no idea what he’s thinking, but come mealtime, he’ll show up."
Fang Yi nodded and asked, "What about Old Master Song?"
Song Wuliang said, "My grandfather claimed he had a headache. Between his grandson and what’s right, he decided to avoid seeing both sides altogether and just stay in."
Fang Yi suddenly understood the meaning of Old Master Song.
That evening, Old Master Song had said a lot to Fang Yi. Song Haoyue was considered part of the Song family, yet also not. When Old Master Song had uttered those words, he couldn’t hide his pride in his grandson Song Haoyue, but there was also a sense of loss and helplessness.
After all, Song Haoyue was Old Master Song’s grandson. Old Master Song decided it was ’out of sight, out of mind’, better not to look and not to be troubled – he just stayed in his room and didn’t come out, so as not to make things difficult for himself.
"Don’t be fooled by my old man’s irreverent behavior all the time, he’s actually quite childlike – sharp-tongued but soft-hearted. Sigh, thinking about the old guy nearing his grave makes my heart inexplicably ache."
The more he spoke, the less serious Song Wuliang got. This was just the kind of guy he was. Fang Yi couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and pity. That Old Master Song hadn’t been vexed to death by a grandson like him was quite an accomplishment.
The courtyard was brightly lit, and on a round table as large as two put together, delicate dishes were being served one after another. Song Wuliang’s mouth watered at the sight, and he was about to sneak a few bites when Song Chenghai came out at just the right moment, giving him a glare that straightened him right up.
Song Chenghai approached with a stern face that carried no smile, "Miss Fang, please take a seat at the table."
Fang Yuying said nothing and stood up, pulling Fang Yi’s hand and leading him towards the table. Song Chenghai stood there, his expression freezing for a moment, a complexity shadowing his features.
Previously, Song Chenghai hadn’t taken Fang Yi seriously, focusing only on Fang Yuying, after all, she was the precious daughter of the Fang Family – he had to show respect.
But Fang Yuying seemed to see right through Song Chenghai’s thoughts, taking Fang Yi with her to the dining table. What did that signify? It was as if Fang Yuying had slapped Song Chenghai’s face, but without laying a finger on him.
"People from the Fang Family truly are unpredictable..." Song Chenghai muttered to himself softly.
Fang Yi, pulled by Fang Yuying to a seat, understood what she was thinking and why she had done that. His sister seemed to be slapping Song Chenghai’s face, but in reality, she simply didn’t want her brother to be looked down upon.
It was that simple, a subtle gesture, yet it spoke louder than words.
Fang Yi felt a bit of bitterness in his heart. He glanced at Fang Yuying, her exquisitely perfect profile in that moment seemed so divine and beautiful, gentle and approachable, a stark contrast to her previously wild and rough demeanor.
Everyone took their seats at the dining table, but Song Chenghai didn’t say to start because everyone knew someone was missing.
Yet Fang Yuying didn’t care for such formalities; she picked up her chopsticks and began to eat.
The others certainly noticed Fang Yuying’s impolite behavior, but no one said anything. Song Chenghai, noticing it too, pretended he hadn’t seen anything, while Song Wuliang gave a covert thumbs up from the sidelines.
"Here, little Fang Yi, try this." Fang Yuying was unreserved, picking up her chopsticks to serve Fang Yi.
Fang Yi smiled, did not refuse, and knew why Fang Yuying did it.
As the two of them ate, it made Song Wuliang envious. Anyone could tell he was a food lover by looking at his build, and seeing so many sumptuous dishes on the table that he couldn’t touch was utterly frustrating.
"Dad, the guests have started eating; let’s eat too," Song Wuliang said as he picked up his chopsticks, ready to dig in.
With a snap, Song Wuliang’s head was slapped from behind, and Song Chenghai glanced at him sternly, saying, "Behave."
Song Wuliang’s chubby face, which was puffed up with or without anger, looked extremely wronged. He turned to look at Fang Yi and Fang Yuying, licking his tongue in what seemed like a deliberate attempt to disgust Fang Yi. Fang Yi, however, pretended not to see it and continued to eat his own meal.
Just then, a few people approached their table, led by a handsome and tall young man. Next to him was a middle-aged man, whose facial features bore some resemblance to Song Chenghai.
Behind them followed a woman and a middle-aged man, namely Yan Yingnan and Liang Yong. Thus, the one in front had to be Song Haoyue, and the middle-aged man was none other than Song Haoyue’s father, Song Zhenghan.
As the group arrived, the atmosphere immediately tensed up. Even Song Wuliang sat up straight as if facing a formidable enemy, careful to observe every movement. When Song Wuliang saw Fang Yi and Fang Yuying, he couldn’t help but curse internally.
These two were enjoying their meal immensely, completely ignoring the arrival of Song Haoyue and the others. Song Wuliang couldn’t help but secretly give them a thumbs up.
Song Zhenghan took his seat beside his elder brother, Song Chenghai, his face cold. He glanced over at Fang Yi and company with a silent sneer, his eyes filled with clear disdain.
Song Haoyue sat down next to his father, Song Zhenghan, followed by Yan Yingnan, and then lastly, Liang Yong.
But just as Liang Yong was about to take his seat, Fang Yi suddenly put down his chopsticks and said indifferently, "Who do you think you are? You have no right to sit here."
The already somber dinner table suddenly went still, and the summer night seemed to fill with chill.
No one had expected Fang Yi to suddenly speak up. Song Wuliang hadn’t expected it, Song Chenghai hadn’t expected it, Song Zhenghan hadn’t expected it, Yan Yingnan hadn’t expected it, and looking at Song Haoyue, there was a faint smile on his lips.
Liang Yong’s expression instantly darkened, his face grew stormy, and a flash of sharpness passed through his eyes, as sharp as a knife.
Facing those knife-like eyes, Fang Yi calmly and slowly picked up a napkin to wipe his mouth. Then he crumpled the napkin into a small ball and casually tossed it, hitting Liang Yong’s face seemingly unintentionally, but with perfect aim.
Everyone witnessed this scene. This was not just a slap in the face for Liang Yong but also for Song Haoyue. The atmosphere was chillingly silent, and if Liang Yong made no response, it would mean losing face for Song Haoyue.
Everyone knew, with Song Haoyue’s arrival, Fang Yi had given him a warning shot.
In fact... this was nothing more than a tally of debts, repaying an eye for an eye.
Liang Yong’s face was as dark as water, and he didn’t strike out immediately; he coldly said, "What do you mean by this?"
Fang Yi said, "You still don’t understand my meaning? That time on Chunxi Road, you smashed my car, and now I smack your face. It’s only fair and square, any objections?"
"Whose car was smashed?" Song Wuliang blurted out, a sense of ominous premonition in his heart.
"A White Eagle brand car, hmph, I am a patriot. So what if it was smashed?" Liang Yong directed these words at Fang Yi.
Song Wuliang cursed and was about to explode, but his father, Song Chenghai, pulled him back.
Fang Yi looked at Liang Yong whose face was gloomy, chuckled, and said, "A patriot doesn’t wear their patriotism on their sleeve, nor do they act like they’re invincible after following a person who looks only like a leader."
Liang Yong said coldly, "Don’t provoke me."
Fang Yi said indifferently, "I don’t want to fight, I just want to talk sense with you. And also, to throw your words from that day back at you. Moon City may not be mine, Fang Yi’s world, but it’s not your master’s world either. No matter how important he might be, in my eyes, he’s nothing but a clay chicken or pottery dog."
