Chapter 183: Chapter 183 Elf Heroes and Loyalty

With the addition of high-altitude units, the situation with the trolls started to look a bit strained.

But the trolls were not without means of their own; their throwing skills were indeed very high. Some trolls with powerful throwing abilities aimed their spears at the sky, giving them a certain capability against air units.

Fang Jie once again involved the Lobster Man, the same kind that could self-immolate.

With this addition, the trolls began to suffer increasing losses.

This method of combat was an eye-opener for the soldiers.

Although they all had their own understanding of war, they realized that the Undead, unafraid of death, could come up with more tricks. Tactics that could not be used on living creatures were freely employed by the Undead.

Many were inspired and came up with many new ideas.

However, as the battle lasted into the night, most were unable to endure and went back to sleep.

This battle was nowhere near its end, because the highland region in question was not very large, and only so much area could be reached. Even with around-the-clock assaults, it was not possible for a large force to come into direct contact.

What Fang Jie wanted was to annihilate the opponent; however, looking at the current situation, even dispersing them seemed impossible in a day or two—it was a long-term war.

As a result, the battle continued day in and day out, with the Undead not requiring rest.

The trolls couldn’t keep up with this pace, but they could rotate with the forces in the rear, and so both sides kept fighting nonstop for three days. In three days, the trolls suffered over a million losses.

Yet these trolls had no concept of numbers and only knew that they weren’t getting enough food, so they still didn’t leave and continued fighting.

At the forefront, there was now a slope made up of bones, which was akin to a change in the terrain.

After all, both sides were vying for the trolls’ corpses, but no one cared for the skeletons’.

The accumulation grew into this situation because skeletons aren’t edible, so the trolls wouldn’t pick them up. Similarly, since Incorporeal corpses couldn’t be used as materials to create more Undead, Fang Jie wouldn’t collect them either.

Some buildings required bones as materials, but only so much of that was needed.

On the third day, Qin Lan unexpectedly made contact, "What, you have a Hero Unit among your forces, congratulations." Fang Jie thought Qin Lan was bragging.

After all, it was a Hero Unit, and though he had many on his side, what could he do since they were all skeletons?

Looking at the picture of that beautiful Elf, Fang Jie was tempted to drool. How great it would be if she were under his command.

"It’s not about that, but about some specific data." Qin Lan shared some experimental data with Fang Jie.

"So it’s mainly about loyalty and acquisition, huh." Fang Jie realized that all the data were Qin Lan’s experiment results. First, to have a soldier become a hero using a card, the loyalty must reach one hundred.

But normally, full loyalty doesn’t change, except when using a card.

According to Qin Lan’s experiments, this method of usage would typically cause a drop in loyalty by 10 to 20 points, but even with the largest decline, loyalty would still stay above 80.

This Elf Hero only had her loyalty decline by 6 points, staying at 94.

Fang Jie had no idea how Qin Lan had managed to experiment with these data, but they were credible.

Furthermore, Qin Lan hypothesized that if a hero were to break through their limits on their own to become a Hero, the fluctuation would be even greater. Those who became heroes on their own had strong potentials but might rebel.

Their final loyalty would depend on how their masters treated them before they became Heroes.

This data was very important—obviously, if leaked, it would fundamentally change how Lords treated their subordinates. Of course, for factions like the Undead and Element, this was meaningless.

The last point was about ways to gain loyalty, which Qin Lan said differed among races.

For example, the Elf under Qin Lan wouldn’t have her loyalty increased by the typical human methods.

The actual method to gain loyalty was quite peculiar. By just leaving her alone to study various arts, her loyalty would increase. If one could collaborate with her in studying arts, the increase would be even faster.

This hero’s loyalty had already reached 97. According to Qin Lan’s estimates, in a few more months, it could be raised to full value, at which point she would become a die-hard follower.

Unfortunately, she would only be die-hardly loyal to Qin Lan, and it wouldn’t work with anyone else, not even if ownership was transferred.

Such die-hard heroes, if transferred, would most likely commit suicide. Even with Undead Heroes, most would flee after being transferred and become ownerless.

Thus, Fang Jie usually just let the heroes collaborate with others without truly transferring them.

What Fang Jie hadn’t expected was that Qin Lan could deduce so much from just one Hero Unit.

"Speaking of which, should I also cultivate a hero from another race?"

This definitely was not for the sake of beauty, definitely not. He only wanted to allow some special races to have heroes of their own kind, for easier management, nothing else.

Fang Jie thought about this while occasionally glancing up at the battle in front.

On such battlefields, the chances of naturally emerging heroes should be much higher, and this should apply to Human and Beastman races as well. He just wasn’t sure how their loyalty could be increased.

With Humans, perhaps it would be easier, but with Beastmen, he had no idea.

That night, Qin Shulan suddenly contacted him.

"What’s up, have you also developed a new Hero over there?" Fang Jie asked jokingly. Qin Shulan naturally knew about the hero cultivated by Qin Lan and wasn’t surprised.

"No, but there’s some very important news."

"Important news, you say?" Recently, Qin Shulan had been engaging in maritime trade with nearby kingdoms and regions and developing ocean resources. The main trade partner was the New Moon Kingdom, but there seemed to be no issue there.

If there truly were any problems, it would have been Fang Hao who informed him.

After all, watching the front lines was Fang Hao’s job, along with other heroes at the forefront and Jia Siwei. The two countries had used their means, rendering Fang Jie’s skeleton birds and other hidden reconnaissance measures almost useless.

"It’s about a massive new country or rather, an alliance forming on the high seas," Qin Shulan said.
