Chapter 182: Chapter 182 Highland Struggle
After demolishing the facility, Fang Jie didn’t just leave it as it was but immediately established an Affiliated Territory on an open piece of land.
That’s right, an Affiliated Territory made sense because it was too far from his own Main Territory. Now, more than ever, was the perfect time to mobilize troops.
With the Territory established, Fang Jie directly set up the Space Gate there. After connecting to his Main Territory, it became much easier and faster for troops to come over from there.
In fact, as soon as the troops were created on the side of the Main Territory, they could appear here straight away.
This situation provided very good transportation for the great battle that was to come.
"Sure enough, the materials needed for establishing an Affiliated Territory have doubled again," Fang Jie sighed as he looked at the materials that didn’t seem significant at the moment, knowing all too well how terrifying these doubled amounts could get.
It didn’t seem like much now, but after a few more constructions, he would find the materials nearly impossible to gather.
The Trolls from that side were consuming food at an alarmingly fast rate because there were simply too many of them.
Plus, the Trolls didn’t know how to preserve food—they ate whatever was available and were incredibly wasteful. As a result, in just three days, these Trolls had completely devoured their food supply.
Even to fight over food, these Trolls clashed with each other, creating many new "food sources."
On this day, as evening approached, the Trolls finally began their attack.
"These guys couldn’t hold back anymore. After such a long time, at least most of the Trolls on this side must have gathered," Fang Jie observed the seemingly endless horde of Troll armies in the distance.
However, these Trolls were disorganized. Even with a few High-level powerful Trolls, without Hero Units, they couldn’t be brought under control.
Perhaps even if they were Heroes, the Trolls might not like taking orders from them.
With the Death Crows, Fang Jie observed from the air that the gathered Trolls already exceeded the number of three million.
This number was much greater than what the army had estimated. It seemed the army didn’t fully understand the actual situation of the highland, but Fang Jie wasn’t too bothered about it now.
The forces Fang Jie had gathered during this period were even more astonishing, having surpassed ten million.
If it wasn’t for the fact that the open space in front of them couldn’t fit so many Undead, the scene here would be even more spectacular. The rest of the Undead troops were on the other side of the gateway, ready to come through the large Space Gate at any time.
"Can we also command some troops? We want to get used to it and also avenge our fallen comrades."
A soldier next to Fang Jie made such a suggestion, and Fang Jie had no objections.
"You can, but be careful. Your lives are precious. Even if the Undead are wiped out, I don’t want to see anything happen to you."
Fang Jie spoke very matter-of-factly because that’s what he thought, but the soldiers were deeply touched. To value their lives more than those of the Undead Soldiers showed that the new leader was quite decent.
However, even though Fang Jie had said this, they couldn’t really just send their Undead to die.
Fang Jie gave some Undead command rights to these people, but not too many.
Compared to the gargantuan army present, this was merely a drop in the ocean.
But being given command of troops was already a sign of Fang Jie’s appreciation. Other people, controlling the Human soldiers and Beastman Soldiers, also moved to the opposite side, ready to attack from the flank at any moment.
This was a battle concerning the highland’s sovereignty; whoever won would become the new overlord of the highland.
The armies of both sides drew increasingly closer until, at one moment, they collided with each other.
It was like two waves crashing head-on, causing a deafening explosion. The battle instantly erupted into intense heat, with Trolls and Skull Soldiers at the forefront stabbing their weapons into the opposition crazily.
From the back, the Skeletons fired arrows relentlessly, while the Trolls continuously hurled their spears.
As a result, the ranged weapons of both sides were almost useless.
The Skeletons, being Undead, wouldn’t die from hits to the body, only to the head.
And the Trolls, with their thick skin and formidable defense, took minimal damage from arrows. Unless shot directly at vital spots, such damage was too insignificant to them.
Simply pulling out the arrows, the Trolls could quickly heal thanks to their regenerative abilities.
The fighting at the front, however, was fierce; a Troll could shatter a Skull Soldier with one blow.
The Skull Soldiers had more difficulty—they needed to sever a Troll’s legs first, then decapitate it to win. Most Trolls that perished were dismembered, consuming a vast number of attacks.
During this period, the Trolls’ resistance and attacks from other Trolls inflicted heavy losses on the Skeletons.
The soldiers who had gone to the front to command saw this very clearly. Similarly, the fearless demeanor of the utterly life-ignorant Undead left a profound impression on them.
"No wonder he can grow to such an extent; the Undead are truly terrifying."
"Indeed, just a bit fragile. If they weren’t so fragile, the whole world would belong to the Undead."
"Stop talking nonsense. There are many powerful races in this world, races more suitable for survival than the Undead. Besides, aren’t we Humans renowned for our strong adaptability?"
They were not ignorant of things happening in the outside world.
Meanwhile, Fang Jie frowned. "I underestimated these Trolls. Such a casualty rate is excessive. Without Hero Units to command, the normal battle might result in a loss ratio of one to ten or even higher."
Even now, with equal-level combat, six or seven Skeletons had to die to take down one Troll.
And regrettably, if Troll corpses weren’t quickly seized and taken to the back, they would be taken by the Trolls as food.
Food could enhance the Trolls’ endurance, and Corpses could be used by Fang Jie to create various levels of Undead. Therefore, the struggle for Corpses was also one of the focal points of this war.
The Skeletons’ struggle for Corpses drove the Trolls into a frenzy, making the battle even more explosive.
"No, this can’t continue, the losses will be too heavy. Even though my Undead are cheap to create, I can’t be so wasteful. Air force, get the air force up," ordered Fang Jie once more.
The White Bone Vultures took to the skies, carrying poisonous and flaming weapons, and dropped them from above.
