He patted her head and said in a gentle voice,

"I can’t bear to see my girlfriend suffer."

Sheng Yin nearly choked. She corrected him, "Contract Girlfriend."

Yu Shuchang chuckled and leaned toward Sheng Yin. His eyes were burning with an intensity that made Sheng Yin shiver.

She couldn’t help but subconsciously try to hide behind the chair, but Yu Shuchang didn’t move away.

His eyes stayed on her, sharp and playful.

"Why are you running?" he asked, his voice low.

"I’m not!" Sheng Yin huffed, crossing her arms. "You’re just too close!"

Yu Shuchang tilted his head. "Oh? But didn’t you say this is fake? Why are you so nervous?"

"I’m not nervous!" she shot back, her voice a little too loud.

Yu Shuchang smirked. "Then why are your ears red?"

Sheng Yin gasped and covered her ears with her hands. "They’re not red!"

Yu Shuchang only chuckled. He took a step back, finally giving her space. "Alright."

Then as if remembering something, he asked,

"Weren’t you supposed to be at the script reading session?"

Sheng Yin’s face changed and she quickly glanced at the clock. Her soul almost left her body when she realized she was running late again.

Checking her phone she realized that it was on silent and her manager had called more than 15 times already.

"I am dead!" Sheng Yin muttered.

Her manager was an angry bird who was ready to explode at any particular moment.

And now she had ignored her call more than 15 times!

Just then her manager called again. Sheng Yin quickly stood up and answered the call.

Before she could speak the manager started to shout,

"Sheng Yin! Where the hell are you? You are truly bold huh! You dare to ignore my call and haven’t even left your house! You..."

Sheng Yin moved her phone away from her ears and had an expression of someone who was about to be scarficied.

Her manager was definitely going to scold her for the next 2 hours.

However, the phone was suddenly snatched from her hand and Yu Shuchang’s voice sounded,

"Hello? Manager Ma? Yes, its me Yu Shuchang. Sheng Yin was late because of some personal matter, please don’t scold her. I will apologize on her behalf."

There was silence on the other end of the call.

Sheng Yin stared at Yu Shuchang with wide eyes. What was he doing?!

Her manager, who was just screaming a second ago, suddenly coughed. His voice became much calmer. "Oh... Mr. Yu?"

"Yes," Yu Shuchang replied smoothly. "I’m sorry for the delay. We’ll leave right away."

Manager Ma hesitated before sighing. "Fine. Just hurry up. No more being late!"

"Understood," Yu Shuchang said before ending the call.

Sheng Yin stood frozen. Did... did he just save her from two hours of yelling?!

"You—" She pointed at him. "Why did you do that?"

Yu Shuchang smirked. He pulled her cheeks and said in a gentle voice,

"How can I bear to see my girlfriend getting scolded."

Sheng Yin felt her heart skipping a beat. It felt as if Yu Shuchang wasn’t pulling her cheeks but was pulling her heartstrings.

His charming and radiant smile, almost made her fall in love with him again.

Yu Shuchang too felt the change in Sheng Yin’s eyes and his gaze darkened.

He slowly leaned toward her and this time Sheng Yin didn’t move back, instead she stared at him as if she was charmed by him completely.

Perfect.

The lamb was taking the bait.

Yu Shuchang felt tempted by looking at her dazed look. His eyes fell on her lips involuntarily and he moved toward them.

Just as their lips were about to touch, Sheng Yin suddenly snapped out of her daze.

Wait—what was she doing?!

Her eyes widened, and she quickly pushed Yu Shuchang away. "W-What are you doing?!"

Yu Shuchang blinked, then smirked. "What? You looked like you wanted me to kiss you."

Sheng Yin’s face turned bright red. "No way! You—you were trying to trick me!"

Yu Shuchang leaned back lazily, crossing his arms.

"Hmm... if I was, then why didn’t you move away?"

"I—I was just frozen for a second!" Sheng Yin stammered. "It doesn’t mean anything!"

Yu Shuchang chuckled, his eyes playful. "If you say so."

Sheng Yin felt like steam was coming out of her ears. She grabbed her bag and rushed toward the door.

"I don’t have time for this! I have to go!"

Yu Shuchang stood up and picked up the car keys. "Alright, let’s go."

Sheng Yin could only bite her lips. She kept on feeling as if...as if Yu Shuchang was invading her life slowly step by step and one day...

Wait...is it possible that...he is chasing me?

’Ugh! What are you thinking? Why would Yu Shuchang chase you? Did you forget how in your past life he was like this too? He just loves to tease you!’ Her mind argued.

’No...even if that is true...it doesn’t explain why he was suddenly so enthusiastic!’

Sheng Yin shook her head and decided to consult someone about the situation.

Soon she reached the place where script reading was going on.

Due to some reason, the male lead couldn’t come but Sheng Yin wasn’t worried.

After all, she already knew about the actor who was going to play the male lead.

What made her worried though...was the fact that she was soon going to lose something important to a complete stranger.

For some reason, she kept on feeling guilty and angry at the same time.

If Yu Shuchang was friends with the director of the movie, surely he should know what type of movie it was, right?

How can he remain so indifferent?

Sheng Yin gritted her teeth.

After the reading session, she went downstairs only to find Yu Shuchang’s car parked there.

Sheng Yin stopped in her tracks.

Why was he still here?

She had been inside for hours! Shouldn’t he have left by now?

Her heart felt complicated. She slowly walked toward the car and knocked on the window.

Yu Shuchang rolled it down, his lips curling into a smirk. "Finally done?"

"You... Why are you still here?" Sheng Yin crossed her arms, trying to sound annoyed.

Yu Shuchang leaned his elbow on the window and looked at her lazily. "I was waiting for you, of course."

Sheng Yin’s heart skipped a beat, but she quickly scolded herself.

’Don’t be stupid! He’s probably just bored!’

"I could have gone home myself," she muttered.

Yu Shuchang just smirked.

"Just drive," she said, getting into the car.

Yu Shuchang chuckled but started the engine.

As they drove, Sheng Yin stared out the window, lost in thought.

"You’re awfully quiet," Yu Shuchang suddenly said, breaking the silence.

Sheng Yin snapped out of her thoughts. A thought appeared in her mind and she said with a grin,

"I was thinking about the male lead of the movie I am going to work in. I heard he is handsome and I have a lot of kiss scenes with him."

Yu Shuchang’s eyes flashed before smiled and said,

"Oh? You are so eager? I never knew you liked to kiss handsome guys. You could have told me, I would have fulfilled your fantasy."

Sheng Yin: "..."

Why does...she suddenly feel as if she was some kind of pervert?

Taking a deep breath, she smiled and said,

"No. I want to fulfill this fantasy with someone I genuinely love."

"You love the male lead?" Yu Shuchang asked with bright eyes.

Looking at Yu Shuchang’s bright eyes, Sheng Yin’s grip on her bag tightened.

She didn’t know why, but when Yu Shuchang asked that question, her heartfelt... weird.

She forced a smile.

"Of course not. I haven’t even met him yet. But I am looking forward to making him my boyfriend."

Yu Shuchang paused and suddenly said,

"Your real boyfriend?"

"Yes, my real boyfriend." Sheng Yin said with a stern expression.

The ride to the villa was a silent one. Both of them were lost in their own thoughts.

Once outside Yu Holea’s villa, Sheng Yin unbuckled her seat belt and said,

"Please free me from the contract as I don’t wish to continue it anymore."

Yu Shuchang’s hands tightened on the steering wheel. His eyes darkened as he looked at Sheng Yin.

"You want to end the contract?" he asked, his voice calm but with a strange sharpness to it.

Sheng Yin nodded firmly. "Yes. I don’t want my future boyfriend to misunderstand anything."

Yu Shuchang chuckled, but there was no warmth in it. "Future boyfriend? You haven’t even met him yet."

Sheng Yin crossed her arms. "So what? I’m serious about finding someone I love!"

Yu Shuchang tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, staring at her with unreadable eyes.

Then, he suddenly leaned closer.

"Sheng Yin sometimes I truly feel you are quite heartless."
