Chapter 702: Chapter 702: Walking Corpse
"But your son needs you now. You have to be strong for him."
The woman nodded slowly, wiping away her tears. "I will. For him."
Suddenly the woman tugged at Yu Holea’s clothes and asked,
"What will be my husband’s punishment?"
Yu Holea paused, before saying in a calm tone,
"That depends on your son and you ma’am. According to your statement and your attitude, the punishment will be decided."
The woman nodded looking as if she had lost the will to live.
On the one hand, it was her son who suffered, on the other was her husband who loved to the point he couldn’t prevent himself from sacrificing his own son for his wife.
Not to mention she also has to fight cancer.
Yu Holea sensed her dilemma and suddenly had a thought. What if Qiao Jun was in the husband’s place?
’He would never try to sacrifice his son.’ She thought and felt relieved.
Yet she said to the woman,
"I have few healing talismans, as long as you take them for half a year, your cancer will be cured. You can meet your son first and ask him what he wants to do.
Don’t worry, at most your husband will be jailed for 5 years, and if you don’t want to see him, we can also arrange for him to be hanged."
The woman’s eyes widened in shock, and she stared at Yu Holea, unsure if she had heard correctly.
"I... I don’t know," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I need to see my son first."
Yu Holea nodded. "That’s the right thing to do."
She gently helped the woman stand up and led her to the room where her son was resting. The boy was still weak, but his natural color had returned, and he was sleeping peacefully.
When the woman saw her son, tears streamed down her face. She knelt beside his bed and gently held his small hand.
"My baby," she whispered. "I’m so sorry."
Yu Holea watched silently, giving the mother and son a moment of peace.
After a while, the boy slowly opened his eyes. When he saw his mother, his face lit up with a faint smile.
"Mom," he whispered weakly.
The woman hugged him carefully, afraid of hurting him. "I’m here, sweetheart. Everything’s going to be okay."
Yu Holea stepped forward. "I need to ask him something," she said gently.
The woman nodded and stepped back a little.
Yu Holea knelt beside the boy. "Do you remember what happened to you?" she asked softly.
The boy’s eyes darkened, and he nodded slowly. He explained everything,
"Dad said he would bring me to eat ice cream and I was happy but for some reason, he kept on crying and in between he would stop and even try to return to our home’s direction.
It was only after my insistence did he continued. However, he didn’t bring me to an ice cream stall but a temple. He looked very sad and kept crying.
He apologized to me repeatedly and said he would only complete half of something and use his own body for the other half of something...um...what was it..ual...something that ends with ual..."
"Ritual?" Yu Holea asked.
The boy nodded slowly. "Yeah, ritual," he whispered.
"He said that he would trick the devil into taking him away and save me and Mom." The boy continued.
"He said that he would trick the devil into taking him away and save me and Mom," the boy continued.
Yu Holea’s eyes softened a little. She could see the boy’s confusion and pain.
"Do you hate your dad for what he did?" she asked gently.
The boy was silent for a moment. He looked at his mom, then back at Yu Holea.
"I don’t know," he whispered. "I... I think he was scared. But... I was scared too. He should’ve protected me, not... not let that thing take me. However...he did...he did try to protect me. I don’t hate him."
His mom started crying again, holding him tightly.
"I’m so sorry, baby," she whispered. "I didn’t know he... he would do something like that."
Yu Holea stood up and looked at the woman.
"You should talk to him when you’re ready," she said. "But remember, your son needs you now more than ever."
The woman nodded, wiping her tears. "I’ll be strong for him."
Yu Holea handed her the healing talismans.
"Take these every day for six months. Your cancer will be gone."
The woman took them with shaky hands. "Thank you," she whispered.
Yu Holea gave her a small nod and turned to leave the room. As she walked out, she saw Jin Aitu sitting in the hallway, his head in his hands.
When he saw Yu Holea, he stood up quickly.
"How... how is he?" he asked nervously.
"Alive," Yu Holea said flatly.
Jin Aitu sighed in relief, but Yu Holea’s next words made him freeze.
"But your wife and son will decide your fate," she said coldly. "You betrayed your own child. That’s not something easily forgiven."
Jin Aitu’s face crumbled. "I... I didn’t mean to... I just wanted to save my wife."
"And you thought sacrificing your son was the answer?" Yu Holea snapped. "You’re lucky they’re even alive to decide what happens to you."
Jin Aitu didn’t say anything. He just sank back into the chair, his face pale and full of regret.
Yu Holea walked away, leaving him to his guilt. She knew the family had a long road ahead, but at least the boy was safe. That was what mattered most.
As she stepped outside, the cool breeze brushed against her face. She took a deep breath, feeling a mix of relief and exhaustion.
"Another job done," she muttered to herself.
Once she returned to the bedroom of her villa, she saw Qiao Jun on her bed, rolling around.
She couldn’t help but laugh when she saw his child-like behavior.
Her laughter attracted Qiao Jun’s attention, who looked at her and smiled,
"You are back."
Yu Holea nodded her head and asked.
"What are you doing?"
Qiao Jun grinned and sat up on the bed. "I was waiting for you," he said, stretching his arms above his head.
Yu Holea chuckled and dropped her bag on the chair. "Waiting for me while rolling around like a kid?"
Qiao Jun shrugged, his smile playful. "Well, it’s boring when you’re not here."
Yu Holea shook her head, amused. She walked over to the bed and sat beside him.
"You wouldn’t believe the day I had," she sighed.
Qiao Jun’s smile faded a little, and he looked at her with concern.
"Want to talk about it?"
Yu Holea leaned back, resting on her elbows.
"It was a tough case. A father tried to sacrifice his son to save his wife. The boy survived, but the family’s a mess now."
Qiao Jun frowned. "That’s horrible. How could someone do that to their own child?"
"I don’t know," Yu Holea replied softly.
"But the boy doesn’t hate his dad. He still loves him, even after everything."
Suddenly she turned and looked in his direction with a serious expression.
"What would you do, if you were in that father’s position?"
Qiao Jun’s playful smile faded completely.
He sat up straighter, thinking about her question.
Suddenly he could understand what the man was going through.
If there comes a day when he would his Holea won’t be alive for long, he would do anything...literally anything to extend her life.
Even if it means sacrificing his own life.
"I would never do that," he said firmly.
"No matter what, I’d protect my family. But sacrificing my own kid? Never. I’d find another way."
If he doesn’t find any alternative, then he would follow Yu Holea, after raising their kids till they were 18 and mature enough to handle everything on their own.
He couldn’t live without Yu Holea and he wished that he would never have to live without her.
Because honestly, he might push himself to raise their kids till they were 18, but he would be nothing more than a walking corpse.
Yu Holea watched him closely, her eyes softening at his words. "That’s what I thought," she whispered.
Qiao Jun reached out and gently took her hand. "You okay?"
Yu Holea nodded slowly. "Yeah. Just... cases like this make me think. It’s hard seeing families torn apart."
Qiao Jun squeezed her hand. "But you saved them. You gave that boy and his mom a chance."
Yu Holea smiled a little, feeling warmth in his words. "I guess you’re right."
Qiao Jun stood up suddenly, pulling her with him.
"You know what? I think you need cuddles!"
Yu Holea laughed, letting him pull her into a warm hug.
"Maybe I do," she whispered into his chest.
They stayed like that for a while, just holding each other.
The warmth of his arms around her made the heaviness of the day fade away.
