Chapter 675: Coffee
Chapter 675: Chapter 675: Coffee
The contract was important—perhaps even life-changing—but this wasn’t the first time she had signed one with him.
Yu Shuchang handed her the contract with a calm smile, his fingers brushing against hers for just a moment.
"Take your time," he said softly. "Make sure everything looks good."
Sheng Yin nodded and began reading the document carefully.
It was lengthy, filled with legal terms that made her head spin.
Across the table, Yu Shuchang sat still, watching her as she read. His face was expressionless, but there was a glint of something in his eyes.
As Sheng Yin finished reading, she felt a sense of relief. Everything looked fine.
There were no hidden clauses, no tricks.
She lifted her gaze from the paper and met his eyes. "It looks good to me," she said, her voice steady.
Yu Shuchang nodded and pushed the pen toward her. "Then go ahead and sign."
Just as Sheng Yin reached for the pen, a waitress, carrying a tray of drinks, walked toward their table.
She had a nervous look on her face, and her hands were trembling slightly as she tried to balance the coffee cups.
The waitress was close now, almost there—when suddenly, her foot caught on the edge of the table.
Time seemed to slow down as the tray tipped.
The coffee, in a wide arc, flew straight toward the table. Sheng Yin had only a split second to react, but it was too late.
The hot liquid splashed across the contract, soaking the paper and ruining the delicate print.
The ink blurred and began to bleed, making the document unreadable.
The waitress gasped, her eyes wide with shock and embarrassment.
"I... I’m so sorry!" she stammered, her face turning red.
Sheng Yin quickly stood up and waved her hand.
"It’s fine. It’s just a contract," she said, trying to reassure the waitress.
But inside, she could feel her heart sinking. The contract was ruined. What would happen now?
Yu Shuchang, however, didn’t seem as calm.
His eyes narrowed as he glared at the waitress.
His expression was serious, but there was something chilling about the way he looked at her.
"You should be more careful," he said, his voice cold.
The waitress stammered another apology, but Yu Shuchang barely acknowledged her.
He stood up, reaching for a new copy of the contract that had been tucked into his briefcase.
Without a word, he placed it in front of Sheng Yin.
"Here’s another one," he said, his voice smooth and composed once more. "You can sign this one."
Sheng Yin blinked, a little taken aback by how quickly he had moved.
After a moment, she nodded and picked up the pen.
She quickly signed the contract, not wanting to delay things any further.
It felt strange, though.
Everything had been going so smoothly, and now, this little accident had thrown everything off.
But in the end, it was just a small mishap. It wasn’t the end of the world.
As soon as she signed, Yu Shuchang took the contract from her and gave her a smile.
"I’ll send you a copy of this later," he said.
Sheng Yin nodded in agreement, gathering her things.
"Thank you," she said quietly, her voice soft.
She stood up and left.
Yu Shuchang motioned to the waitress who had caused the mess.
She looked at him, a nervous glance in her eyes, unsure of what he wanted.
Yu Shuchang gave a small nod, signaling her to come closer.
She hesitantly approached the table, her hands still trembling slightly.
Yu Shuchang reached into his pocket and pulled out a thick wad of bills.
He counted out a generous 10,000 yuan and handed it to the waitress.
"This is for you," he said simply.
The waitress’s eyes widened. She looked at the money in her hands, then back at Yu Shuchang, clearly shocked.
"Are you sure?" she asked nervously. "I mean, the contract wasn’t some property transfer paper, right?"
"Don’t worry about it," Yu Shuchang interrupted smoothly. "It wasn’t and no she won’t be harmed financially."
The waitress hesitated for a moment before she accepted the money, her hands shaking.
"Thank you so much," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Yu Mei sat in her makeup room, the sound of her phone buzzing endlessly in front of her.
She had been keeping up with the online reactions, and each new notification made her blood boil.
The plan she had carefully crafted to destroy Yu Shuchang’s reputation had backfired terribly.
Instead of breaking him down, it had made him stronger, and now, even the citizens were calling her the "poisonous stepsister."
Her hands clenched into fists as she scrolled through the comments. The hate poured in from all sides.
"Yu Mei, you should be ashamed of yourself! Trying to ruin your brother like that? You’re disgusting!"
"You’re the real villain here, not Yu Shuchang. You need to be exposed!"
"Yu Mei is poison! The worst kind of person! I can’t believe she tried to hurt her own family."
Yu Mei’s frustration boiled over as she threw her phone onto the couch.
"This isn’t how it was supposed to happen!" she screamed aloud, her voice laced with anger.
"Everything was supposed to go according to plan! I would have ruined him, and then taken the spotlight. And now... now I’m the villain!"
She paced around the room, trying to calm herself, but the growing hatred online only fueled her desperation.
"How am I going to get out of this? I need someone with the same luck as Yu Shuchang... someone who can help me bring him down."
Her mind raced as she thought about her next move.
She had once planned to wait for the backlash to become severe, to let Yu Shuchang fall into depression.
That way, she could pose as a crazy fan, someone who had been devastated by his downfall.
She would have killed him and presented it as a sacrifice to the dark lord.
No one would suspect her, and she would have gotten away with it.
But now everything was wrong.
Yu Shuchang was still standing tall, stronger than ever, and the citizens had turned against her.
She was exposed.
No...
She needed someone else to take the blame.
"Who could I use?" she thought, her mind racing.
Suddenly, the door to the makeup room opened, and her assistant stepped inside.
The assistant looked concerned, her brows furrowed as she noticed Yu Mei’s angry expression.
"Yu Mei, are you okay?" the assistant asked softly.
"I know things aren’t going as planned, but don’t worry. We’ll figure this out. You won’t be blamed."
Yu Mei looked at her assistant, her eyes narrowing.
"You still think I’ll be okay?" she sneered.
"Everything has gone wrong! My reputation is ruined, and now everyone thinks I’m a villain."
The assistant took a deep breath, her voice calming.
"Don’t worry. People will forget. I know you won’t do something like this. I believe in you."
Yu Mei stared at her for a long moment, her lips curling into a slow, sinister smile.
The assistant was so naive.
She was just the person she needed to fix this situation.
Without hesitation, Yu Mei walked closer to her assistant, her eyes gleaming with a dangerous idea.
"You’re right," Yu Mei said in a soft voice.
"I won’t do something like this... but you can."
The assistant blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?"
Yu Mei’s smile widened.
"I want you to take the fall for me. Go online and say that you were the one behind everything. You tried to harm Yu Shuchang because you hated him for never paying attention to you. Tell everyone that you’re the mastermind."
The assistant’s eyes instantly turned dazed.
Without a word, the assistant’s shoulders slumped, and she nodded. "Okay... I’ll do it."
Yu Mei’s smile returned, pleased with her assistant’s submission.
"Good. Now go. Post about it right now."
The assistant quickly left the room, and Yu Mei sat back in her chair, her fingers tapping eagerly on the armrest.
She could already hear the uproar starting online.
"This is it," she thought. "I’ll clear my name, and everyone will think it was her fault."
Soon enough, the assistant’s post appeared on social media. It read:
"I was the one who tried to harm Yu Shuchang. I’m the mastermind behind the rumors and everything that happened.
The reason I did it is simple—I hate him. He never paid attention to me, and I couldn’t stand it anymore. I went too far, and I deeply regret it. Please forgive me."
The moment the post went up, the comment section exploded.
People who had been calling out Yu Mei before now turned their anger toward the assistant.
They believed the assistant’s words and began to attack her.
"Wow, so she was the crazy fan behind it all! I knew something was off about her!"
"I can’t believe she tried to hurt Yu Shuchang. She’s such a psycho!"
"She was always lurking in the shadows, waiting for a chance to strike. Disgusting!"
