Chapter 407: Chapter 407:You Won’t Be Saved

In the silent night the sound ’tsk’ was particularly scary.

Pan Rou and Qi Zhong froze.

Both of them didn’t dare to move at all.

The voice, however, didn’t stop at all.

The ’tsk’ sound continued, growing louder and more ominous with each repetition. Pan Rou and Qi Zhong exchanged nervous glances, their hearts pounding in their chests.

"What... what is that?" Pan Rou whispered, her voice barely audible.

Qi Zhong shook her head, her expression tense. "I don’t know," she replied in a hushed tone. "But we should get out of here. Now."

They turned to leave, but the sound seemed to follow them, echoing through the empty halls of the mansion.

"Tsk tsk tsk..."

Pan Rou’s breath caught in her throat as she quickened her pace, fear gripping her tightly. Qi Zhong followed closely behind, her senses on high alert.

As they reached the top of the stairs, the sound abruptly stopped, leaving an eerie silence in its wake. Pan Rou and Qi Zhong paused, listening intently for any sign of movement.

But there was nothing. No sound, no movement, just an oppressive silence that seemed to press down on them like a heavyweight.

Pan Rou’s hands trembled as she reached for the doorknob of her room, her heart still racing with fear. Qi Zhong stood beside her, her expression tense and wary.

With a deep breath, Pan Rou pushed open the door and stepped inside, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of danger.

But the room was empty, bathed in the soft glow of moonlight filtering in through the window. Pan Rou let out a shaky breath, relief flooding through her.

"It’s okay," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "There’s nothing here."

Qi Zhong nodded, her expression still wary. "Let’s just stay here for now," she said quietly. "I don’t want to risk going back out there until we know what’s going on."

Pan Rou nodded in agreement, her heart still pounding in her chest. They settled down on the bed, their senses on high alert as they waited for any sign of danger.

But as the minutes ticked by, the mansion remained silent, the only sound the soft rustling of the wind outside.

When it was dawn, Qi Zhong and Pan Rou who hadn’t slept much blinked, hurriedly took a shower, and waited for the clock to tick 10’o clock.

Surprisingly the time passed fast and Pan Rou called Yu Holea. Even the warm sunlight didn’t warm the coldness they were feeling.

When the call was picked up, Pan Rou greeted,

"Good Morning Master Yu could you please come over to Pan Mansion, we are feeling as if something strange is going on...hello? Hello?"

Qi Zhong looked at Pan Rou with a worried expression and said,

"What happened?"

Pan Rou gritted her teeth and said,

"No one is answering..."

"Grrrr..." A voice came out from the phone. Pan Rou instantly focused on the call and suddenly heard a cold, dark voice similar to the voice of chalk getting dragged on the blackboard,

"Y...o...u....won...’t...be...sa...ve..d."

Huh?

Pan Rou’s eyes widened.

"Wh-What?"

"Y...o...u....won...’t...be...sa...ve..d." The other side said again and this time Pan Rou understood those words.

Pan Rou threw the phone and looked at Qi Zhong with horror in her eyes.

Qi Zhong asked worriedly,

"What happened?"

Pan Rou stared at the floor, her breathing had fastened up and her eyes were widened as she said.

"I didn’t hear that angelic voice, instead...I heard a strange voice. It was so disturbing that I...."

Pan Rou looked at Qi Zhong as if she wasn’t able to explain what she was feeling.

Qi Zhong blinked and asked,

"Can’t bear to hear any more?"

Pan Rou nodded,

"Yess and I...wait!"

Pan Rou stared at Qi Zhong and frowned as she asked,

"Zhong when did your nose...."

Pan Rou stared at Qi Zhong’s nose for a long time, but she kept on feeling as if something was strange.

Qi Zhong touched her nose and asked,

"What happened?"

Pan Rou suddenly looked away and started looking at her room.

Without a word, she stood up and opened her wardrobe.

The clothes were neatly stacked and all the things were according to what she had previously seen.

However...

Pan Rou looked around as if she was trying to find something and suddenly her eyes widened.

So strange...

Everything was so perfect.

It was so perfect that even the wardrobe that was damaged from the side, was now fixed...

"What happened?" Qi Zhong asked.

Pan Rou turned around and looked at Qi Zhong who was staring at her...only her eyeballs were smiling and she was smiling very strangely.

She heard her ask,

"How did you know?"

Pan Rou gulped, her forehead was sweating, her eyes were widened and even her heart was beating loudly but seeing Qi Zhong not rushing towards her, she answered in a forced calm tone,

"Your...your nose...Qi Zhong has a small mark on her nose. Your nose doesn’t have it..."

But the question was...what was happening...

Didn’t she go to the kitchen and meet Qi Zhong? Till then Qi Zhong was alright and from then till coming to their room, they didn’t separate, so how come Qi Zhong turned into a ghost?

’Qi Zhong’ chuckled and suddenly rushed towards Pan Rou.

"Ahhhhhhh!"

..............................

2 minutes before

As Pan Rou and Qi Zhong cautiously entered the room, a sense of unease settled over them like a heavy blanket. The eerie silence seemed to weigh down on their senses, amplifying their apprehension with each passing moment.

As they stepped further into the room, Qi Zhong’s keen eyes caught sight of something peculiar about Pan Rou. There was a subtle shift in her demeanor, a flicker of confusion that crossed her features before quickly being masked by a forced calmness.

Qi Zhong furrowed her brows in concern, a nagging feeling tugging at the edges of her mind. Something wasn’t right, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

"Pan Rou, are you alright?" Qi Zhong asked tentatively, her voice tinged with worry.

Pan Rou forced a smile, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. "I’m fine," she replied, her voice unconvincing even to her own ears.

Before Qi Zhong could press further, a sudden realization dawned on her. She glanced around the room, her eyes scanning every corner with a newfound sense of urgency.

That’s when she noticed it.

The subtle details that were off, the imperfections that shouldn’t be there. The room was too perfect, too pristine as if frozen in time.

But Qi Zhong knew better.

She had been in this room countless times before, and it had never looked like this. There was always a sense of lived-in warmth, a touch of chaos that spoke of its inhabitants’ presence.

But now, it was like a carefully crafted illusion, a facade meant to deceive and disorient.

Qi Zhong’s heart quickened as she realized the truth. Something was wrong with the room.

"P-Pan Rou," Qi Zhong stammered, her voice trembling with fear. "Something’s not right. We need to get out of here, now."

But Pan Rou seemed oblivious to Qi Zhong’s distress, her gaze fixed on something in the distance with an unsettling blankness.

"Pan Rou!" Qi Zhong called out, her voice rising in urgency.

But it was as if Pan Rou couldn’t hear her, lost in the grip of the illusion that held her captive.

Just as Qi Zhong was thinking of some solution, she saw Pan Rou clutching her(Pan Rou’s) neck. It was as if she was trying to kill herself.

"No! No! You don’t do this!" Qi Zhong tried to pull away Pan Rou’s hand from her neck but the grip was so strong that Qi Zhong was stunned.

What to do?

What to do?

Even after trying 10 to 12 times when Pan Rou didn’t pull away her hand from her neck, Qi Zhong almost went crazy from fright.

If this continued then Pan Rou would die because of lack of oxygen!

Qi Zhong started panicking and looked around.

Suddenly she touched her pockets and her eyes which were widened expressed joy.

She took out a yellow talisman given by Yu Holea before and flicked it.

Whoosh.

.......................

In Pan Rou’s illusion.

Pan Rou felt her body twisting and her entire body started bending at an unimaginable angle.

Her eyes widened as she realized that the warm sunlight had vanished and the room was shrouded by darkness.

Even her friend Qi Zhong looked somewhat unfamiliar and strange.

How wouldn’t she? Instead of eyeballs, all she was seeing now was darkness and nothing else.

Even the warm smile that made her giggle someday was now making her frightened.

And as if it wasn’t enough the strange giggling noise and the hand wrapped around her neck were slowly starting to choke her.

The darkness seemed to press in on her from all sides, suffocating her with its oppressive weight.
