Chapter 219: This is what you deserve

Chapter 219: This is what you deserve

THOOOOOMMMMMM!

A thunderous explosion rocked the entire superstructure, sending a low vibration through the steel beams and glass panels of the tallest, most secure building in the entire world.

Lights flickered for half a second.

Desks trembled and a few cups clattered off tables, smashing on marble floors.

It was chaos, but only for a heartbeat.

Because this wasn’t just any normal building... this was the seat of absolute global authority.

The headquarters of the World Council, Sovereign Circle.

The building’s security systems instantly activated as shimmering blue barriers sealed off major corridors and shielded vital command rooms.

Guards across every floor reached for their weapons.

Surveillance teams rushed to screens and alarms flashed as the system tried to triangulate the source of the explosion.

"What the hell was that?!"

"We’ve got a breach on the substructure! It’s climbing... fast!"

Before orders could be issued, something made the security operators freeze.

tap... tap... tap...

The sound of heels.

Down the eastern corridor of the 65th floor, a lone figure emerged through the shimmering fog of broken wards.

Her blonde hair fluttered lightly with every step and her high heels tapped calmly against the tiles.

The workers froze and the guards who had instinctively reached for their weapons stopped midway.

As if a wave of gravity had swept through the floor, everyone dropped to one knee.

"L-Lady Charlotte...!"

The female guards at the checkpoint bowed their heads deeply.

Female staff from every department rushed out of their offices to see the disturbance and immediately fell into place on the floor with their heads down.

Charlotte did not look at them as her gaze was fixed on the elevator.

The elevator at the end of the hall opened automatically before she reached it.

She stepped inside, turned around, and pressed the top floor’s button.

As the doors closed, she lifted her head and looked into the small security camera in the corner of the elevator.

Her eyes narrowed.

On the top floor, the Sky Chamber... a woman with short black hair sat at a desk surrounded by clear reinforced glass that overlooked the entire megacity.

She wore a sleek black suit with her legs crossed as she quietly scrolled through data on a holographic screen projected above her laptop.

An alert blinked in the corner of the screen and she saw the feed from the elevator.

Charlotte’s face.

The woman narrowed her eyes slightly and a long, controlled sigh left her lips.

"The trouble that Lingsha causes me..." she muttered under her breath.

Behind her, another woman in a formal white combat uniform stood quietly by the doorway.

The woman at the desk didn’t turn around "You can leave."

Without a word, the bodyguard nodded and exited.

A few seconds passed.

KRRRSSHH!

The door exploaded and shards of reinforced wood and alloy blasted inward as a violent pulse of ether annihilated the locking mechanism.

The broken remains of the heavy chamber doors clattered against the far wall.

And Charlotte stepped through the dust.

She walked slowly, with the blue tint of ether still clinging to her fingers.

The woman at the desk didn’t flinch.

Instead, she closed the laptop calmly and pushed it aside with her fingers steepled in front of her lips.

"Charlotte,"

Charlotte stopped five feet in front of the desk, saying nothing at first.

"Is it true?" Charlotte asked quietly.

The woman raised an eyebrow "You’ll have to be more specific."

Charlotte’s voice sharpened "Did you send Ji Lingsha after Brandon?"

The woman leaned back in her chair, "Lingsha took liberties, perhaps."

Charlotte’s hand twitched slightly at her side and ether surged up her arm for a brief second.

"You sent a fucking Empyrean assassin after a boy who hadn’t even harmed anyone."

The woman narrowed her eyes "He’s not just a boy. He’s the Herald. A male. An anomaly. An untested threat with no allegiance to the Council. You know exactly what he is."

Charlotte stepped forward, "He is mine."

EH? The woman blinked in surprise. What?

Charlotte’s fists were clenched at her sides "I will not ask again. Did you authorize lethal action?"

The woman looked away for a moment, toward the skyline "If I did, what then? Will you kill me? Declare war on the Council?"

Charlotte exhaled slowly and a yellow glint passed through her eyes, like a sun behind the clouds.

Then-

CRASH!

She raised her leg and kicked the entire desk clear across the room.

The heavy wood splintered on impact, shattering against the far wall and sending shards and paperwork flying.

Before the woman could even flinch, Charlotte had already closed the distance and her hand shot forward, grabbing her throat.

"Wha- WHAT ARE- "

Her voice was strangled before it could form properly and her words died midway as Charlotte’s grip tightened, crushing her windpipe.

With a sickening crack, her throat caved under the pressure.

"Silence," Charlotte said in a calm voice.

"You dared to hurt my little brother."

The woman’s eyes widened and panic overtook her composure.

She instinctively reached into her coat pocket.

But Charlotte moved faster and seized the woman’s wrist with her other hand and twisted violently.

SNAP!

A piercing scream tore through the room as her bones snapped "ARGHHHH!!"

Charlotte didn’t even flinch and her glowing eyes narrowed further as she raised her hand again.

THWAK!

One precise jerk, and the woman’s neck snapped sideways like a broken branch.

Her body went limp immediately, and the light vanished from her eyes.

Charlotte let her go, and the corpse crumpled lifelessly to the expensive carpet.

Looking down at the dead body, Charlotte raised her leg, placing her heel on her face "This is what you deserve..."

But then, suddenly, a ripple of green light shimmered through Charlotte’s golden gaze and her body tensed.

"Urghh..."

She staggered slightly and clutched her head in pain as green and yellow hues clashed violently in her eyes.

The colors swirled and flared... competing for dominance.

Then green overtook the gold, and a strange clarity returned to her expression.

She looked down at the dead body of the World Leader and her eyes condensed "This damned bitch..."
