Chapter 218: Nothing happened
The kitchen was filled with the warm aroma of roasted chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, and freshly baked bread air as the late afternoon sun filtered through the window.
The table was set with a platter of herb-crusted chicken at the center, surrounded by bowls of creamy mashed potatoes, steamed green beans with a lemon butter glaze, and a basket of warm dinner rolls.
Brandon sat at one end of the table and reached for a roll before tearing it apart with his fingers, the steam rising as he spread a generous pat of butter across it.
Yverine sat to Brandon’s left and reached for the green beans as she served herself a small portion "This is really good, Miss Elize. Been a while since I had a meal like this."
Elize smiled gently and nodded her head "I am glad to hear that."
The table fell into a comfortable silence for a moment as the four of them continued to eat.
Brandon reached for another helping of chicken and his eyes darted to Elize with a teasing smile.
Elize caught his look and raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a playful smile "What’s that look for, Kael?" she asked as she leaned forward, resting her chin in her hand.
"You’re not still thinking about your ’punishment,’ are you?"
Brandon nearly choked on his roll as he coughed, quickly reaching for his water.
Yverine and Naevora both looked up and glanced at Brandon in confusion.
Punishment?
Clearing his throat he looked at her "Aunt Elize, not at the dinner table."
Elize laughed and waved her hand dismissively "Relax, darling, I’m just messing with you."
Naevora and Yverine looked at each other for a moment. maybe an inside joke?
They continued eating, passing dishes and sharing small stories.
---
It was almost evening; Brandon and Yverine were walking through the roadside of the Solvyrn city.
Looking around, Yverine noticed the women looking at Brandon curiously.
She was wearing Brandon’s oversized t-shirt and quickly clutched the hem of the shirt tightly as a gust of wind swept past, her cheeks flushing slightly "With no bra, it feels so windy..." she muttered under her breath.
Her hair swayed with the breeze, and she glanced around, noticing the curious stares of a few women passing by, their eyes lingering on Brandon.
Brandon, walking beside her, caught her words and let out a faint chuckle "Windy?"
Yverine nodded softly, "Hm, I mostly wear sports bras... now with this loose shirt, they’re moving so often..."
She pulled the t-shirt again as the fabric pressed to show her curves and shot him a sidelong glance, as if daring him to make another comment.
Brandon’s smile turned wry, and he shook his head, "Alright, let’s buy you some clothes before buying some drinks."
He gestured toward a modern showroom just ahead, its glass windows displaying mannequins dressed in stylish outfits, from casual wear to elegant dresses.
They stepped into the showroom and the shop assistant, a young woman with a professional smile, hurried over and her eyes widened slightly as she recognized Brandon.
"Welcome, Mr. Brandon! It’s an honor to have you here."
Brandon waved a hand casually, "No need for assistance, we’ll look into it. Thanks, though."
The assistant nodded quickly, "Sure, Mr. Brandon. Let me know if you need anything."
She retreated to the counter, though her eyes lingered on them curiously as they moved deeper into the store.
Yverine walked beside Brandon, her fingers brushing lightly against a row of tops as they made their way toward the inner section.
She glanced at Brandon, her silver eyes narrowing slightly "Isn’t it pretty annoying as everyone’s gaze is always on you?"
Brandon chuckled, shaking his head as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his shorts. "Well, it was kinda annoying at first."
"Now I’m used to it."
Yverine’s gaze lowered and her fingers tightened briefly on the hem of the oversized t-shirt she was wearing "Hmm, I see," she mumbled and her voice was softer now, almost reflective.
"Haa... well, I also had the same experience in the past, but worse."
Brandon’s gaze condensed slightly "Hm? What happened?"
She hesitated and her eyes flickered to the racks of clothes before turning back to look at him, as if considering whether to share or not.
Her lips parted, then closed again, and she let out a quiet sigh.
Sensing her reluctance, Brandon’s expression softened, and he offered her a warm smile "If you don’t feel comfortable talking about it, I won’t force you."
Yverine’s shoulders relaxed slightly, and she let out another sigh, as if his words had lifted a small weight.
"No, no... it’s just..." She paused, her fingers brushing against a soft gray sweater on the rack before she continued.
"People mostly looked at me weirdly because of my skin color."
Her voice was quiet, carrying the weight of old memories "I was bullied back in school, too... called names, pushed around, that kind of thing. It was rough for a while. But now I’m over it."
Brandon’s expression shifted and a flicker of empathy crossed his face as he listened.
He stopped walking, turning to face her fully, "That’s... shitty. Kids can be cruel, especially about stuff like that. I’m... sorry you went through it."
Yverine shrugged, "It’s in the past. I learned to deal with it. Made me tougher, I guess."
She glanced at him, her eyes softening slightly "Besides, I’m not the type to let that stuff hold me back anymore."
Brandon nodded, "Yeah, I can tell. You’re tougher than most people I know. Still, doesn’t make it okay. If anyone tries that crap now, they’ll have to deal with me."
"Hahaha... sure." Yverine let out a quiet laugh as they resumed walking toward the undergarment section.
She stopped at a display of bras and picked up a dark green bra with subtle lace trim, checking the size.
He just watched her as she carefully selected a couple of bras, a practical black sports bra and the green one she had been eyeing.
She moved on to a rack of clothes, pulling out a fitted black tank top and a pair of dark blue jeans.
Holding them up, she glanced at Brandon. "These work?"
Brandon tilted his head, giving her an appreciative once-over as he imagined the outfit. "Yeah, they look great."
She smiled, tossing the clothes over her arm "Good answer," as they headed toward the changing room.
She stepped out of the room a few minutes later with the tank top hugging her athletic body and the jeans fitting comfortably.
The green bra was a perfect fit, offering the support she needed without the discomfort of Eira’s ill-fitting one.
She turned in front of a mirror, checking the outfit, then glanced at Brandon. "Better?"
"Much better."
Yverine’s lips curved into a small smile as she grabbed the second bra and the clothes, heading toward the counter.
Brandon followed, pulling out his wallet despite her half-hearted protest.
"I got this," he said firmly, handing his card to the assistant, who smiled politely as she rang up the purchase.
Yverine nodded as she took the bag from the assistant.
As they stepped back into the evening air, the breeze was less bothersome now, and she walked a little closer to him, their shoulders brushing as they headed back toward the house.
"Thanks," she said quietly and her voice was sincere as she glanced at him. "For listening, too."
Brandon’s smile softened, and he nudged her gently with his elbow "Anytime, Sister Yve."

The evening air was cool as Brandon and Yverine approached Elize’s house. fre.ewebnov el.com
The bag of new clothes swung lightly in Yverine’s hand and Brandon’s steps were relaxed.
But as they pushed open the front door, the atmosphere inside the house shifted the moment they crossed the threshold.
Elize and Naevora sat on the couch and Ravene was sitting across them with a stern look on her face.
But it was Eira who drew Brandon’s attention immediately.
She sat on the edge of the couch and her face was streaked with tears.
The moment she saw Brandon, she stood up and rushed to him "Brandon,"
She threw herself into his arms, wrapping them tightly around his waist "Brandon..."
Brandon’s arms instinctively encircled her and he patted her head reassuringly "Nothing happened. I’m okay, Eira."
Yverine, standing just behind him, glanced at Eira and her lips pressed into a thin line as a faint frown creased her eyebrow.
Without a word, she adjusted the bag in her hand and moved past them, heading toward the hallway that led to the bedrooms.
Eira pulled back slightly, her hands moving to cup Brandon’s face and her thumbs brushed gently against his cheeks "Good thing nothing happened to you."
"Yeah..."
Brandon pecked her lips and muttered "I’m alright, I promise. Just a rough day, that’s all."
She nodded and stepped back slightly, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand as a shaky laugh escaped her lips "That scared me,"
Meanwhile, Ravene glanced at Elize "Did you tell this to Charlotte...?"
Elize gave a nod "Hm, yeah I did. She is on her way here now."

Back in Solvyrn city-
"Dumbass woman, take the fresh vegetables."
Dhayun was yelling at the vendor in the market as she took another potato in her hand "I need to cook good food for tonight."
The middle-aged man let out a faint sigh "I am taking the good ones, young lady..."
"Hmph." Dhayun snorted and took a small note from her backpack.
"What else do I need to buy. Meat... hmm, oil, wine too."
