Chapter 85: Julia’s Complaints

Jessie noticed that Julia liked them very much and smiled. “If Miss Rossi likes them, I can make more for you in the future. They’re not expensive anyway.”

They weren’t expensive to make; she only needed some time to weave them up.

“Do you sell them here?” Julia asked curiously.

From her perspective, Jessie’s shop was neither in the city center nor in a good location, and the space was too small. She was worried about whether Jessie would be able to sell them.

Jessie nodded and explained, “These are included as freebies with small cakes. Sometimes children like them and come back to buy more, which helps increase my sales.

“I’m planning to make a website for the shop online to sell these items. Broadening the sales channels seems like a good idea.”

Hearing her idea, Julia proactively offered, “Then I’ll share it with my friends so they can support your business. Your handicraft is amazing; your skills are impressive.”

After her first encounter with Jessie, she felt that Jessie was a very sincere person. She was also willing to use her network resources to promote her, and most importantly, she genuinely believed that what Jessie does is extremely good.

Even if her friends didn’t like them, they would help promote her on her behalf out of courtesy.

Jessie didn’t stand on ceremony and directly accepted the offer.

“That would be great. Thank you, Miss Rossi.”

After that, she politely invited Julia to sit down and brought out the shop’s signature cakes to entertain her. Julia, having sought her out again, was a delightful surprise for Jessie, thinking meeting someone as prominent as her would only ever be something she could talk about among her friends.

Not only did she meet Julia, but Julia even came to find her; it was truly amazing.

Even Jessie’s close friend, Lilian, didn’t know her—despite that, Jessie somehow did.

Such luck was astonishing.

“The cake you made is really delicious. How did you make it?” Julia was taken aback by the flavor; it was on par with the chefs at her home.

Jessie was amused by her surprised expression. “I’m only using some ordinary ingredients. If you like it, Miss Rossi, I can teach you next time.”

But then, she felt like she had misspoken. How could a wealthy heiress like Julia possibly bake for herself?

To her surprise, Julia nodded in agreement. “Sure!”

As Julia was smiling, Jessie couldn’t help but marvel at her. Having been born into such a wealthy family, not only was she beautiful, but she also had an outstanding figure and bearing, perfectly matched up with someone like President Harper.

Indeed, they were a perfect match.

On the other hand, Kevin felt his nose itch, thinking about Julia seeking out Jessie.

He knew Julia wouldn’t trouble Jessie, but why was she reaching out to his wife? Could it actually be, as Adam said, that she wants to befriend his wife?

It was almost unimaginable that one of his admirers and his wife could become friends.

Julia ate the cake, but there was some bitterness in her expression, which Jessie noticed and inquired about.

“Miss Rossi, are you in a bad mood? If you’re willing to talk about it, maybe I can help.”

Only then did Julia put down her fork, taking a deep breath before she looked into Jessie’s eyes.

“You probably saw the headlines about me chasing after President Harper in a quite passionate way. I know how much I really like him, and this feeling has lasted for a very long time. At first, I thought it was impossible and considered giving up, but even after studying abroad for a few years, I still couldn’t forget him. If I like someone that much, shouldn’t I just pursue him? I feel like I should be bold in expressing my feelings.

“After all, he’s single, and so am I. I am responsible for my feelings and for pursuing him. What’s wrong with that? Why does no one understand my actions? I don’t have a single person supporting me.”

Julia took a deep sigh. “I’m telling you this because when I first met you, our interactions made me feel close to you. I want to be friends with you, and since I don’t have many friends, you’re the only one I feel I can confide in.”

After she finished speaking, she stabbed her fork into the cake with frustration visible on her face.

What was so wrong with liking someone? She liked Kevin, so she pursued him in a brave way. Why did everyone insist she give up, saying it was impossible?

Jessie was the only one who told her to keep going.

So, she believed Jessie understood her and poured her heart out.

“I know my limits; if President Harper had a wife or a girlfriend, I would never pursue him. I still have my dignity. I just believe that if you like someone, you should try your hardest to win them over; that way, you’re not left with any regrets. Even if there’s no result, at least I tried.”

Hearing this, Jessie found Julia to be different from the rumors. Contrary to being a wilful and spoiled heiress like the rumors suggested, she seemed to have a proper outlook and mindset, just like any young girl lost in emotions.

However, Kevin was indeed single. Back then, she barely caught a glimpse of him. She couldn’t even see his face properly as he was surrounded by bodyguards. Over the years, he had never let any young woman near him, not even having any scandals around him.

It was Julia’s bold confession that made it to the news.

Jessie thought for a bit. “I don’t think you’re in the wrong. Going after the one you like isn’t wrong in itself. Besides, President Harper doesn’t have a relationship with anyone else. You like him, you pursue him, and you’re willing to take responsibility for your feelings. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

Julia immediately felt like she had met someone she could confide in, grabbing Jessie’s hand and exclaiming, “Yes, that’s exactly how I feel. It’s good that you support me, Jessie.”

Jessie seemed to understand why Julia would come to her now. After all, stubbornly pursuing something can be a heavy burden. Finally finding someone who supported you would naturally make you want to share your troubles.

“Try to look at it positively; being single isn’t all that bad. To be honest, I had a relationship before, and he cheated on me with someone else behind my back. Being single means you can do whatever you want, whenever you want.”

If she were to get married, she might end up like Laura—that kind of marriage wasn’t what she wanted.

Thankfully, Kevin was thoughtful. However, their marriage was only a contractual one.

“Anyway, persistence pays off. Haven’t you read those online novels where the girl boldly pursues the guy? She clings to him and doesn’t let go. Although he remains aloof, the moment she decides to give up, he realizes her worth and begins a ‘chase to win back’ scenario.”

Jessie never thought she would one day be quoting Lilian’s lines from her novels.
