Chapter 84: Caring for the Wife

[Thank you, Mr. Harper. It was delicious.]

Kevin was busy networking at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel when he saw the message from Jessie. He picked up his phone, standing up as he said, "Excuse me, I need to make a phone call."

The other executives at the table nodded. On the other hand, Adam immediately knew that Kevin was going to call his wife. Tsk, tsk, tsk, he hadn’t expected his friend to be this smitten. It seemed like he was almost entirely in love.

"President Harper seems to be in a good mood today," noticed one observant individual. Kevin’s expression remained gentle, a rare sight for those who knew him.

"Is something good happening recently, Mr. Lambert?" someone else asked.

Adam took a sip of red wine and responded with a light smile, "Perhaps the iron tree is finally blooming; he has met with someone he quite likes lately."

Upon hearing this, the people at the table were all surprised. They never expected Kevin to be interested in a woman. Over the years, not a single one had been able to approach him, leading some people to question his sexuality entirely.

The executives at the table had daughters of their own, and they all began to consider introducing them to Kevin after learning he was interested in someone.

Even if he already had someone he was targeting, people were always selfish creatures who wanted to have better options.

Outside, Kevin was unaware that Adam had nearly exposed him to these executives.

Jessie answered quickly when he called.

"Mr. Harper, thank you for the meal. It was delicious, but... isn’t your boss going to scold you for this?"

Evidently, the meal was expensive. It wasn’t that she didn’t appreciate it—she just didn’t want to get Kevin in trouble.

Kevin couldn’t help but smile when he realized she was worried for him, his heart warming as he felt her genuine care.

"It’s alright, my boss likes me a lot."

That was true; he did like himself quite a bit.

"So, how are you feeling? I’ve heard that good food can improve your mood."

At that moment, she realized that what Lilian had said was true; Kevin was actually being considerate of her

"My mood is much better now. Thank you, Mr. Harper." Jessie’s smile widened as she spoke.

"If you like it, I’ll have them deliver it to you every day. It saves you from ordering takeout all the time."

Waldorf Astoria Hotel was managed under Harper Group, and with Kevin’s personal arrangements, they wouldn’t slack off.

Plus, constantly eating takeout wouldn’t be a healthy habit.

"Every day? Does your boss go to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel every day for meals? Even if we’re taking a small advantage over it, we shouldn’t exploit your boss too much. Being in his position isn’t easy." Jessie sighed. "It’s good that he likes you, but you might get in trouble if he finds out. Plus, I don’t always order takeout; I take some time to cook once in a while."

She was meticulous about spending and saved most of her earnings. What they used to say was true—women gain more confidence from financial security.

Kevin replied, "I can use my salary to order for you. Safety is worth any other cost."

Hearing this, she relented. "Alright, alright, I promise I’ll make a lunchbox at home for lunch; it will be safe and healthy. You really shouldn’t spend your salary on me. It’s not easy to earn money, and we should save for emergencies rather than spend it all on food."

In her view, Kevin was just an ordinary repairman with a decent salary, and she wouldn’t want him to overspend for her sake.

The way she viewed him allowed Kevin to see that she was a sensible woman, not a gold-digger.

After all the time he had spent with her, he had come to realize his initial judgments of her were wrong.

"My salary card is with you. If you want to eat something, just order it. Don’t be so frugal."

"Don’t worry, I won’t misuse the money."

When Kevin handed her his salary card, the only thing she purchased was furniture. She had made it clear that he would handle big expenses, and she would cover the daily costs. She meticulously kept track of her finances so that if their relationship ended, it would be easy to settle matters with no one feeling like they had been scammed out of their money.

While Jessie was still on the phone, a pleasant female voice called out.

"Jessie?"

Surprised, Jessie looked over and said, "Julia? How...?"

Kevin overheard Julia’s voice, his eyebrows furrowing. He recalled Adam’s warning. If Julia and Jessie became friends, his identity might be exposed quickly.

On the other hand, Julia waved warmly. She had intended to accompany her mother on an outing, but since Jessie had left a strong impression on her, she wanted to meet up first and at least become friends.

"Is this your shop?"

"Yes, please have a seat." Jessie smiled.

By then, Julia noticed that she was on a call. "Oops, were you on the phone?"

Jessie didn’t deny it, "Yes, I was talking to my husband."

"Husband, I’ll hang up now."

Kevin, hearing himself being called "husband," forgot about Julia entirely and felt content.

"Is there anything you need, Miss Rossi?" Jessie asked after setting down her phone. Julia took a gift bag from the bodyguard behind her, handing it over.

"It took me quite some effort to find you. Here’s a little something for our first meeting."

Jessie accepted it readily, recognizing some expensive cosmetics inside.

"You are indeed generous, Miss Rossi."

Julia raised an eyebrow, pretending to be casual. "I just asked them to pick out a few things."

However, as a matter of fact, she had chosen them with hope that Jessie would come to like them.

Julia looked around Jessie’s small shop; though not spacious, everything was clean and decorated in a sweet and pleasing style.

"Miss Rossi, if you don’t mind, I’d like to give you this." Jessie handed Julia a little handmade keychain. "I made it myself."

Julia exclaimed, "You’re telling me that you have another skill?"

The delicately crafted little panda had no problem capturing her heart.
