Chapter 86: Making a Move
Julia thought Jessie’s words made a lot of sense. She knew someone in a similar situation and felt even more confident in her choice. However, she had tried many ways, and Kevin’s reaction so far was like a stone, completely unmoved.
"Jessie, do you have any ideas? Have you ever pursued someone before?"
Jessie was a bit stumped by her question, having never really pursued anyone before. To put it another way, she rarely thought about matters of the heart. However...
"I haven’t, but I think relationships boil down to two things: love at first sight or growing affections over time. If President Harper can’t fall in love with you at first sight, then maybe you should make your presence more visible in front of him instead—that way, there will be more opportunities for you guys to interact. Don’t men usually love being busy with work? You could approach him under the guise of work; he won’t have a good reason to reject you then, right?"
She believed that people needed to spend time together to develop feelings. So-called love at first sight usually boils down to attraction at first sight.
Julia thought that was a good idea and gratefully said, "Thank you so much, Jessie. If I manage to win President Harper over, I’ll bring you a great gift to show my gratitude."
"Then I wish Miss Rossi the best of luck."
Julia nodded and clenched her fist. "I’ll do my best! I refuse to believe I can’t win him over!"
Jessie laughed at her determination. "Miss Rossi, I think you’re different from the rumors. They all say you’re hard to get along with—a spoiled and willful young lady. But after spending time with you today, you don’t seem that way to me. If you were really as they say, maybe you would need to change your personality a bit to catch President Harper’s attention?"
Hearing this, Julia reflected on her own behavior.
Seemingly, Jessie had not said anything wrong. Growing up constantly doted on, she always got whatever she wanted. Her personality was indeed a bit spoiled, and she never hesitated to deny others’ faces when she saw something she didn’t like.
She sincerely reflected on herself. "Jessie, if you hadn’t told me these things today, I might never have realized my problems."
Perhaps other people also saw her issues, but they didn’t dare to point it out to her. Jessie was the only one brave enough to do so.
"It’s nothing," Jessie waved her hand.
If she were in Julia’s social circle, maybe she wouldn’t have dared to say these things either.
"Jessie, look what I brought back," Lilian said as she walked in with popsicles, her smile freezing the moment she saw Julia.
Was she hallucinating? Otherwise, how could the daughter of the Rossi family appear here?
She remembered Jessie telling her that Julia had accidentally bumped into her before. She thought that Julia, with her status, would just leave her bodyguards to handle the aftermath; however, here she was in person.
"Miss Rossi, let me introduce you. This is my good friend, Lilian."
"Hello." Lilian nodded in greeting.
Julia only gave a simple nod. She was willing to share her concerns with Jessie because she considered her a friend, but in front of Lilian, she didn’t wish to say much. Then, she said goodbye to Jessie and left.
Julia had specifically hung the little plush toy Jessie gave her on her phone, smiling whenever she saw it.
"I’ll be on vacation with my mom for a while. I heard there are lots of fun things at the place we’re going to. I’ll bring you back some local specialties."
Jessie wasn’t shy to accept her offer and smiled in response. "Great, I look forward to it."
Julia smirked at Jessie’s response, really liking her personality and determined to be friends with her.
After Julia left, Lilian was amazed as she looked at her friend.
"Jessie, you’re incredible. You actually got such a famous person to come find you."
She didn’t expect Jessie to bump into Julia on the street and even befriend her.
Lilian gave Jessie a thumbs-up. "Miss Rossi is putting in effort to chase President Harper. However, she doesn’t seem as stubborn and difficult as the rumors say. She actually feels quite approachable. So you see, you can’t just listen to rumors. You have to get to know someone yourself."
Reaching into the bag, Jessie took out a popsicle. "I think people are just jealous of her status, being so beautiful and coming from a wealthy family. That’s why they’re twisting her image."
All of a sudden, the phone rang. Lilian took the call, saying something before looking at Jessie with a bitter expression.
"Jessie, what should I do? My mom wants me to quit my job and go on blind dates. She says I’m getting old now, and I need to get settled down."
Especially after knowing Jessie got married, her mom was even more anxious, afraid she wouldn’t ever find a husband.
Jessie thought that her aunt’s worries weren’t entirely wrong. "That’s normal. Before I got married, my mom always urged me, since she was worried I wouldn’t get married. Why not listen to your mom and give it a shot? What if you meet a tall, handsome guy? You don’t want to miss that chance and regret it."
"I’m not as lucky as a novel’s heroine," Lilian said, propping her cheek with her hand as she had a bitter look on her face.
Novel heroines could meet handsome male leads even by tripping, just like her good friend, who coincidentally met Julia in such a big place like Grace City.
Jessie poked her forehead. "Can’t you differentiate reality from fiction? Weren’t you always saying you wanted to marry a young, handsome, and rich CEO?"
"There are plenty of CEOs, but who’s to say they’re as great as you imagine? And someone like President Harper is beyond our league."
Lilian’s expression turned bitter as Jessie made a good point with her words. She clutched her friend’s arm, blinking her eyes.
"Jessie, please accompany me on a blind date."
"No way."
"Why not?"
"Just no." Jessie waved her hand. "It’s a date your mom set up for you, so why would I go? You’re not going off to face a natural disaster; I believe you can handle it."
When her friends needed help, Jessie would be there, but not when it came to blind dates.
"Jessie..." Lilian tried to sweet-talk her into agreeing.
However, Jessie pretended to be busy and walked to the back kitchen.
Lilian stared at her pitifully the entire afternoon, but she wasn’t swayed at all. She even suggested Lilian head home early.
Seeing no other choice, Lilian could only leave.
