Chapter 83: Kevin’s Kind Gesture
Adam spread his hands, looking helplessly at Kevin before he finally managed to squeeze out a few words.
"Did I offend you in any way?"
Was he coming to flaunt his happiness this early in the morning?
Without saying a word, Kevin had achieved his purpose and directly returned to the office. Adam, on the other hand, observed his shirt and couldn’t help but sigh.
Kevin had always been very particular about his attire, but he was now wearing a shirt bought from a budget store in the mall by his wife; it was obvious that she held a certain place in his heart.
Perhaps Kevin himself hadn’t realized it yet, but he surely would in the future.
Around noon, Adam knocked on the office door and offered, "Want to grab lunch?"
Only then did Kevin lift his head from the documents. "Lunch?"
"Yeah, it’s almost twelve." Adam glanced at his watch, wondering if his friend had lost his train of thought from all the reading.
Kevin took out his phone and sent a message to Jessie.
[Have you eaten yet?]
Jessie had just finished her work and was about to order some takeout on her phone when his message popped up.
[Not yet, the shop’s pretty busy today. I’ll order some takeout in a bit.]
[No need to order. I’m out with my boss, and the food here is pretty good. I’ll order something for you and have it sent over.]
Thinking about her getting upset over the event that happened before, he hoped some good food might lift her spirits.
On the other hand, she felt like he would spend too much, so she quickly declined.
[Don’t waste money, I’ll just grab something simple.]
[No worries, I’m paying using the company’s account.]
Seeing this message, Jessie couldn’t help but laugh, teasing him.
[I didn’t expect Mr. Harper to be like this.]
Adam witnessed Kevin’s subtle smile, feeling like he had just seen a ghost.
Was he seeing things, or did Kevin actually smile?
By the time he rubbed his eyes to confirm, Kevin had already composed his expression and coldly replied, "I don’t want to eat with you. Get out."
Adam rolled his eyes to the air and angrily shut the door.
He had given him a kind invitation, but if Kevin didn’t want to eat with him, then let it be!
Kevin made a call to Grace City’s most luxurious hotel. The manager, surprised and flattered to receive his call, felt like his delivery request was a bit unusual. However, he didn’t question it. They wasted no time packing the most expensive meal and dessert set, sending it to Jessie’s shop.
When Jessie saw the formally dressed service staff lined up at the door, she was taken aback.
The leading manager politely knocked and asked in a deep voice, "Excuse me, which one of you is Mrs. Jessie?"
While speaking, he spotted her, who stood out with her remarkable presence and striking looks. He had an inkling that she was indeed Jessie.
She stepped forward and replied, "Hello, that’s me."
Assuming this was the delivery order Kevin had arranged for her, she found the grand display quite unexpected.
The manager nodded, unclear about Kevin’s connection with a cake shop owner. However, the fact that he had personally ordered the delivery showed he really cared about her. Their job was to ensure Jessie’s satisfaction.
"Mrs. Jessie, this is the lunch Mr. Harper has ordered from our Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Please enjoy," the manager respectfully instructed the staff to place the neatly-packed meal on the table. The array of dishes left her slightly dazzled.
Lilian gasped lightly, smiling as she saw her equally astonished friend.
She could sense that Kevin was very considerate toward Jessie—soon, she would be able to see them fall in love with each other and become a true couple, ready to spend the rest of their lives together.
At the thought, she couldn’t help but feel a bit envious, wondering when her Prince Charming would appear.
After signing for the order, Jessie noticed that Kevin had thoughtfully sent two sets of cutlery.
[You can’t finish it all alone, so share with your friend.]
Seeing that he had also put Lilian into consideration, she felt quite touched.
Lilian, unreservedly, exclaimed, "Mr. Harper really treats you well. I bet he recalled your argument with your stepdad’s relatives today, and that’s why he sent food over to cheer you up. He must be looking for ways to care about you."
"To be honest, Mr. Harper is super nice. Just keep thinking positively, and if things continue like this, even if you two have a six-month agreement, you will probably develop feelings by then and end up tearing the agreement. I think Mr. Harper will want to be with you for the long run."
Listening to Lilian’s analysis, Jessie playfully shoved a piece of steak into her friend’s mouth while laughing.
"Even food can’t stop your mouth. This meal brought you into saying a lot of nice stuff about me; it was worth it."
Not only had it been paid from a company account, but it also won over Lilian’s heart.
Yet, in the next instant, Jessie found it a bit strange. Given Kevin’s personality, he didn’t seem like he would think that way.
Unbeknownst to her, Kevin had received a call in his office from the hotel manager, confirming that they had delivered the lunch.
He had them prepare two sets of cutlery, precisely hoping Lilian would have something nice to say about him.
As the saying goes—Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
Even if she didn’t praise him, at least she wouldn’t speak ill of him.
Lilian pouted, defending herself, "What are you saying? As your best friend, I am unconditionally by your side every moment! And don’t blame me for saying Mr. Harper is nice. Take a look at your stepdad, then at my previous clients—none of them can compare to him!"
Jessie chewed on her food, pondering and feeling like it was too soon to say such things.
Previously, William had treated Laura nicely before he suddenly changed for the worse. Jessie had only just begun interacting with Kevin now, so who knew what would happen in the future?
"Jessie, I think Mr. Harper is a great match for you. You should seriously consider it. If he truly falls for you, he will definitely spoil you endlessly."
Jessie chuckled softly. "Have you been reading too many novels lately? Steve should probably give you a bit more work."
"Jessie!" Lilian protested, annoyed.
She suspected Steve had forgotten about her being his employee entirely, leaving her to handle clients without assigning any specific tasks. Due to this, she was able to visit Jessie freely.
Though truthfully, she relished this moment she had, enjoying her carefree lifestyle of eating and chatting at Jessie’s shop while still getting a paycheck every month.
"Alright, alright, I won’t say it anymore," Jessie quickly said, capturing a photo of the beautifully-plated meal and sending it to Kevin.
