Flash Marriage with A Hidden Tycoon -
Chapter 78: Mutual Respect
Chapter 78: Mutual Respect
"I initially wondered why someone as handsome and well-built as you didn’t have a girlfriend. Even Grandpa was so worried over you... After getting to know your personality, although you’re a bit cold, you’re still acceptable.
"Thinking more about it, it seems like you really must have a problem in that department. Never mind, though—your face and figure make up for it. Let me appreciate it a bit."
After speaking, she boldly reached her hand into Kevin’s shirt, feeling the heat of his body. In the confined space, the atmosphere quickly turned intimate.
Facing her constant teasing, he wasn’t one to back down. He promptly grabbed her wrist and pressed her against him, lowering his head to seal her lips with a kiss.
The intoxication from the alcohol seemed to encourage her more, her arms wrapping around his neck.
Her response aroused his primal desires. His hands roamed over her body, and as he unbuttoned the first button of her shirt...
Voices of passing pedestrians snapped him back to reality. He promptly got out of the car, leaving a dazed Jessie behind.
He adjusted his slightly wrinkled shirt and helped her out of the car.
After that, he removed his tie and used it to tie up her restless hands before he began walking up.
Perhaps as a way to punish Jessie, he intentionally stumbled a few times. His stumbling made her already uneasy stomach churn, with her threatening to vomit any second.
"Mr. Harper, slow down; I’m going to be sick," she restrained herself, but he only shot her a sharp look.
"Dare to take advantage of me again?"
"I won’t, I won’t. Please go slower." Kevin was slightly amused as he saw her pitiful look, but Jessie could hardly notice it as she was too busy with her discomfort.
"It’s just a little punishment."
Despite his words, he slowed down his pace.
Back home, he tossed her onto the couch before turning to leave.
Watching his back, she thought he was angry and quickly followed him.
"Mr. Harper, I was wrong. Don’t be mad at me."
She knocked on the door cautiously. Seeing that he wasn’t responding, her head hung low as she prepared to walk away.
Suddenly, she heard the door open behind her. Jessie’s eyes lit up as she turned to lean on the door frame.
"Mr. Harper, are you not mad anymore?"
Kevin had just gone to change his shirt, since the previous one had picked up an unpleasant scent.
He wacked her forehead with his knuckles, replying in a low voice, "Next time, don’t blame me for being mean."
She nodded vigorously, smiling, "I won’t, I promise! Please trust me, Mr. Harper."
He found her amusing but said nothing, turning to the kitchen.
She eagerly followed behind him and asked, "Mr. Harper, are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"
However, he ignored her. She mouthed out in a low tone, "Fine, ignore me then. What’s his problem?”
"What did you say?" Kevin raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing at all." Jessie beamed with a smile, spreading her hands as she quickly moved out of his sight to the balcony.
With his cold demeanor, what girl would dare approach him? Even Grandpa Harper kept encouraging her to win him over, but she truly didn’t have the bravery to do that.
However, teasing Kevin was indeed fun.
Despite her thoughts, it was the alcohol that had encouraged her so much; usually, she would only tease him verbally. With Kevin having even less experience than she did, he would quickly get defensive in fear that she might actually pounce on him.
Propping her head with one hand, she gazed at the moon as she contemplated. She never thought she could ever get married, fearing relationships due to what she witnessed from Laura’s marriage.
However, choosing a flash marriage with Kevin was an unexpected decision, but luckily, it seemed right. Though they didn’t have any feelings yet, he fulfilled his duties as a husband and treated her well.
In comparison, he was already multiple times better than William.
As the saying goes, love leads to sorrow. Perhaps she didn’t love Kevin, so she wasn’t bothered by his actions.
Jessie knew Laura was still a young girl inside back then, longing for love. When William courted her, he was genuinely kind. Now that they had Luke, they wouldn’t easily be able to get a divorce.
Some say men change after marriage, which is what makes so many people fear settling down.
But shouldn’t marriage symbolize something beautiful?
Before she could ponder more, a delicious aroma wafted over as Kevin appeared on the
balcony with a bowl of hangover soup. "Drink the soup and get some good sleep. Only when you’re well-rested can things go smoothly."
He knew she was worried about Laura’s marriage; otherwise, she wouldn’t have said what she did in the car.
She glanced at him in surprise before nodding.
Both of them were going to get a divorce in half a year, anyway. As long as they didn’t develop any feelings, parting wouldn’t be painful. Grace City was vast enough; running into each other again was uncertain.
With that thought, she resolved herself to never tease Kevin like this again.
It would already be great enough if she could live peacefully for the next six months.
Kevin set the bowl down as he said casually, "I’ll head back to rest."
With that, he returned to his room. He didn’t forget to lock the door behind him, as if sending her a warning.
She ought not cross the line into his life.
On the other hand, Jessie glanced at the hangover soup on the table, feeling inexplicably annoyed.
Locking the door? Who was he being so on guard against? She didn’t even want to go in there.
After eating the soup, she went to her room.
The next day, perhaps thanks to the hangover soup Kevin had made, Jessie didn’t have a headache.
Stretching nicely, she got out of bed. The moment she opened the door, the aroma of food wafted into her nostrils, and she saw Kevin busying himself around in the kitchen.
"Morning, Mr. Harper."
She greeted him, seemingly forgetting the events from last night.
Due to the alcohol, she had gotten up later than usual. She thought he had already left, but there he was in the kitchen.
"Now that you’re awake, let’s sit down and eat. I made some seafood porridge."
Jessie glanced down at the porridge; both its color and aroma were appealing.
"I didn’t expect Mr. Harper to have such skills. I’m lucky!"
Hearing her praise, Kevin felt a bit better about himself.
“Is your stepdad still not home?”
