Chapter 68: The One Who Profits is Him

Although Evelyn was concerned for William, she only said the truth; after all, life must go on. f|re(e)web.n\ovel. (c)o.m

"You can keep that girl outside for fun—I won’t interfere. But if you’re thinking of divorcing Laura to marry that girl, I advise you to think twice. We need to consider who we can actually live life with."

Laura might be a bit fierce, but she was indeed fit for life together.

However, Mandy did not agree with this view and retorted, "Mom, the fact that Laura dared to take action against William today shows that he needs to divorce her. If he drags this on, it will only become a disaster! Moreover, it is also already a disaster if the marriage itself has become a wreck. I think he can definitely marry that girl. Whether she’s good at managing life or not, you have to experience it to know."

"Look at how well-behaved Laura was before compared to now; leaving such an injury on William’s arm. What wife would do that?"

She patted William on the shoulder and suggested, "William, listen to your sister. Cut off Laura’s living expenses first to show her we won’t be bullied easily!"

William also planned to do the same, deciding not to provide living expenses if Laura didn’t apologize.

Now that the family knew about Nancy’s existence, he would only be more bold in interacting with Nancy.

Seeing the photos Nancy sent along with her sweet and coaxing voice, William was captivated. He wished he could divorce Laura immediately.

Meanwhile, Laura was urging Jessie and Kevin to go back quickly and not worry about her.

"Don’t worry, he doesn’t dare do anything to me now. If something happens, I’ll call you."

Jessie still couldn’t let go of her concern, fearing those people might come back to trouble Laura.

"Mom, why don’t you take Luke and move out for a while? I’ll find a place for you."

"No need; you quickly go back." Laura waved her hand, refusing to let Jessie worry.

Understanding Laura’s stubborn nature, Jessie could only nod in agreement.

Back in the car, Kevin noticed her worried look and spoke up to comfort her.

"There’s no need to worry so much. Mom knows what she’s doing, and she even had the courage to stand up to them today; she won’t be bullied. We can visit her often, and I’ll always be there for you no matter what happens."

Hearing his words, Jessie’s mood improved significantly as she felt more secure.

"By the way, I haven’t bought the groceries for today yet. I promised to make you a feast," She suddenly remembered.

He started the car. "No rush; you should go back and rest well today. You can cook for me later."

After what had happened today, she probably wasn’t in the mood to make the feast.

"No, I promised you I would do it. Let’s head to the supermarket first."

He didn’t argue further, driving to the supermarket where they picked up groceries before heading home.

Watching her getting busy in the kitchen, Kevin wanted to lend a hand. However, Jessie insisted on cooking alone to thank him for his help, asking him to wait in the living room instead.

After spending some time in the living room unable to sit still, he decided to join her in the kitchen. Watching her busy silhouette gave him a sense of life, his gaze softening without even realizing it.

"Jessie."

"What is it?" She continued her task, noticing his hesitant expression. "Mr. Harper, if there’s something to say, just say it."

"How’s business at your store lately?"

"It’s good. Why do you ask suddenly?" She felt curious.

"Nothing much, just heard from Chris that your store often has new products, so I’m curious about the sales," Kevin said, secretly observing Jessie’s expression.

She explained without much thought, "It’s doing alright. We always have a few regular cake offerings that people might get tired of, so I often experiment with new products. I sent Chris some last time; he said they were good and even recommended a lot of his friends to come buy from my store. Now, I let him try out every time there’s something new. He helps promote them."

She had no other thoughts aside from letting Chris try the new cakes.

"Why? Do you want some?"

Kevin didn’t expect Jessie to ask him this so bluntly, yet he still hesitated to express his thoughts directly.

"No, just heard everyone say your stuff is good. I got curious, and..."

"Speaking of which, I remembered something." She suddenly interrupted him, "Could you help me bring these dishes out first?"

Despite being confused, he obediently complied.

He watched her take out a handcrafted figurine from her bag before she gave it to him. "What do you think? Do you like it? I made a little dog for you that can keep watch when you’re at work."

He was amused by her innocent idea. He initially wanted to say it was ugly, but he held his tongue when he heard that it had been made specially for him.

"It looks great. You did a good job," he said, holding it in his hand.

So what if Chris got the cakes? Jessie was only using him as a tester; after all, it’s not like Chris received a personally-crafted figurine from her.

"I’m planning to open an online shop to sell cakes and handcrafted figurines. Doing promotions might increase sales."

Kevin nodded approvingly, acknowledging the potential of the idea. It could certainly attract more customers and expand their reach online.

One had to admit that Jessie had a knack for business.

"Then you will help me promote it, right? If people like it, I’ll send you the store’s address, and they can come to buy my products. If you’re too busy, I’ll have an online store ready so things will be easier."

Kevin agreed despite being displeased by the fact that Chris was ahead of him. He reminded himself that profit gave his wife benefits, so ultimately, it benefited him too.

With that thought, he felt better as he enjoyed the meal even more.

Her cooking was impeccable; something he never got tired of no matter how many times he enjoyed it.

After the meal, he took charge of cleaning up, noticing a small tear in his shirt’s hem.

"Mr. Harper, your shirt is torn."

"Where?"

Knowing his attention to detail, he found the tear and initially intended to discard the shirt.

However, Jessie then spoke up, "I’ll buy you a new one."
