Chapter 67: Vase

"Also, didn’t you see my mom got hurt too? Everyone knows who started it first. Let me tell you, if any of you dare say one more bad thing about my mom or lay a hand on her, I’ll fight you to the end!" Jessie clenched her fists, her eyes fierce as she took the knife from Laura’s hand and slammed it onto the table.

"William, I’ve told you before! If you dare lay a hand on me and push me to my limits, we will go down together! You forced me to become like this!" Laura’s heart had gone completely cold.

But no matter what, she wouldn’t let the Krut family bully her like this. If she continued to endure everything quietly, they would really think they could walk all over her.

"Alright, let’s have you both live separately for now. Everyone needs to calm down," Evelyn suggested as she pulled William away and left.

Jessie knew they couldn’t win the argument, so they left quickly.

After they were gone, Jessie sat down with Laura, looking at the red marks on her mom’s arm. Her eyes started to well up with tears.

"Mom, are you okay? You don’t need to suffer this injustice anymore; you should get a divorce. I can support you."

Her small shop was doing well, and she had enough savings to support Laura.

However, Jessie had just gotten married. Laura didn’t want to put too much pressure on her, and it wouldn’t be appropriate.

"Jessie, you don’t need to worry about me. I’ll definitely consider the divorce. What I’m worried about now is Luke’s custody. If I get divorced, they certainly won’t let me take Luke with me."

She didn’t have a job right now, and her chances of winning custody against William were slim.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Jessie thought it might be the Krut family again and tightened her grip on the knife. When she opened the door, it was Kevin.

Only then did she remember that after hearing the argument, the first thing she did was message Kevin in worry she wouldn’t be able to handle it alone. With him there, she felt more at ease.

She hadn’t even realized that she was gradually beginning to rely on him unconsciously.

"What happened?" He asked, seeing the mess inside with his brows furrowed.

After hearing Jessie’s explanation, he said coldly, "Why not just call the police then?"

He had no respect for men who hit women.

"Useless. Domestic violence will at most be considered a family dispute, and my mom doesn’t have a job right now. Luke’s custody will definitely end up with my stepdad." Jessie gritted her teeth.

Laura didn’t want to trouble the two of them over her matters and said directly, "Jessie, Kevin, you don’t have to worry about me. I think after this, he won’t dare do anything to me. Luke is still small and needs to be taken care of. Once he’s in kindergarten, I’ll go find a job and get him to pay for part of the renovation!"

Even if she filed for divorce, she wouldn’t let them get off easily.

On the other hand, Mandy had gone to the pharmacy to buy some medicine for William. She complained, "Laura is becoming more and more unreasonable. You have to divorce her, and you absolutely can’t give Luke to her! And that Jessie girl, not only has she become entitled after her marriage, but her temper has also gotten worse."

William looked at the wounds on his arm and sighed. After all these years of marriage, it was the first time he had seen Laura’s fierce side, and it still left him with slight fear at the thought of it.

He had no plans to go back for now. If he did, Laura might just grab the knife again.

"Right now, Luke is still young. He can’t be left unattended. Do you have time, Mom and Dad?"

Mandy waved her hand. "Mom and Dad still have to help me with Tommy, and the two older ones also need their help with pickup and drop-off."

Upon hearing this, he remained silent for a moment before Robert chimed in, "Your sister isn’t wrong. Your mom and I are getting old and can’t manage everything by ourselves. Tommy and Luke are both young, so it’ll wear us out." .com

"Right now, you still need Laura to help with the kids. Don’t impulsively rush into a divorce. When Luke grows a bit older and goes to kindergarten, then it won’t be too late to file for divorce with her. What you need to do now is act like the head of the household. She currently has no income, so just cut off her financial support and see if she dares to say anything."

William had wanted a divorce for a while, but he held himself back because Luke was still young. If he divorced Laura now, no one would be there to help with the kids.

"And don’t you dare lay hands on Laura anymore. You saw her determination today, didn’t you? Moreover, her daughter stood by her side to back her up!"

Mandy quickly agreed, "Yeah, you definitely shouldn’t give her any money!"

In her heart, she was calculating that if Laura didn’t get support, William might have more to help her out. fre/ew.ebnovel.c om

Evelyn, who had been silent, spoke up, "William, it’s not that I want to lecture you, but remember how I advised you not to marry her initially? Marrying a divorced woman with a child isn’t good. Now you know, don’t you? You insisted on marrying her back then and even treated Jessie like your own daughter. Then, something changed, and you began seeing them more negatively. I’m old, but I understand a lot more than you think. Just by looking at you, I know something’s up. Didn’t you take that woman you were seeing out to dinner recently?"

With his affair exposed, William didn’t hide anymore and said directly, "Mom and Dad, you haven’t seen Laura recently. She’s completely different from a few years ago. She doesn’t care about her appearance anymore, but Nancy is different. Not only is she smart and capable, but she’s also beautiful and treats me well. With her, I felt the feeling of falling in love all over again."

Evelyn scoffed, "I know what that young girl is after. You’re a manager now, and she’s interested in your income and status. Without your position, why would she want to be with you?"

He shrugged, thinking his mother was being a bit harsh. He believed he had personal charm, not thinking that Nancy would be that materialistic.

"If you hadn’t treated Laura like that, would she have acted this way? That woman you have on the side isn’t as hardworking as Laura and looks like nothing more than a vase."
