Chapter 62: He Got Jealous
Kevin’s face suddenly darkened, his eyes widened slightly as if he couldn’t believe Jessie had said that.
Even though she had drunk some alcohol, she was still quite sober. Seeing his reaction, she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Hahaha! I’m just teasing you, Mr. Harper. Don’t take it to heart.”
Hearing this, his expression turned a bit sullen with even a hint of anger in his eyes as he looked at her.
Was that something a woman should say?
She propped her head with one hand, the gentle breeze slightly swaying the strands of her hair on her shoulder. Her cheeks were flushed as she smiled and said, “But we’re legally married, right? Would it be too much to give me a little kiss, Mr. Harper?”
Kevin knew Jessie was teasing him again. Seeing she was in the mood to joke, he leaned in directly, placing a hand behind her head and kissing her on the lips.
The soft sensation and the cool aura hit her, leaving her stunned for a moment. She shrank back in surprise, covering her mouth.
She only wanted to tease him a bit since he was good-looking, but she didn’t expect him to actually kiss her.
She knew Kevin was more cautious than her when it came to such things, so he only kissed her for a brief moment before pulling away.
“Some things shouldn’t be joked about; they deserve punishment.”
He said before tapping her on the forehead. After that, he stood up and said, “It’s getting late, so go to bed early. Don’t drink too much.”
He returned to his room after saying that, his back looking slightly as if he was escaping.
Jessie was still caught up in the scene from just now, unconsciously touching her lips. Did she just kiss Kevin?
She bit her lip, feeling like she had been taken advantage of as she angrily gulped down another mouthful of beer.
Little did she know, he managed to see her do this. He couldn’t help but want to laugh at the sight.
He thought she had a lot of experience, but she turned out to be just as inexperienced as him.
The next morning, both of them were careful not to mention what had happened last night.
“By the way, how are things going with your grandparents? The current situation is in our favor. No matter what they say, just don’t agree with it. When the time comes, take them to court so you can reclaim the inheritance your father left you and have them compensate for everything you have gone through over the past years because of them,” Kevin broke the silence first.
He could bankrupt the Moore family directly, but that would be too conspicuous. Moreover, they were Jessie’s relatives, so she was the one who would decide what would happen to them. As her husband, he would agree unconditionally.
“Don’t worry, I’ll wait for them to contact me first. If enough time passes, they will naturally lose their patience.” Jessie nodded.
She understood her grandparents well; they were stubborn and wouldn’t easily give in. To make them compromise, the current pressure on them wouldn’t be enough.
After breakfast, Kevin suddenly extended his hand, but Jessie didn’t understand what he meant.
“What is it, Mr. Harper?”
Seeing that she didn’t make any move, his face darkened a bit. He left downstairs without a word, leaving her feeling a bit confused.
She learned a new thing about Kevin today: he wasn’t honest about his feelings and liked to sulk.
On the other hand, Kevin looked down at his empty hand. Last time, when he took a lunchbox to the office, he made sure to show it off in front of Adam. Though he hadn’t explicitly asked Jessie to prepare lunch for him, couldn’t she consider it more?
Drake, seeing him come downstairs, promptly opened the car door. He didn’t know if he was hallucinating, but he felt like Kevin wasn’t in a good mood today.
At that moment, Jessie also came downstairs. She coincidentally saw a Maybach and several luxury cars leaving the community, followed by Kevin’s pickup.
Ever since she moved in, she had often seen many luxury cars coming and going in the community, making her wonder if everyone living here was wealthy. However, shouldn’t rich people live in villas or estates? Why live in a community?
She was curious about how much Kevin spent buying this place back then. Although his job was just being a repairman, she always felt he might be wealthier than she imagined.
She sat in the car and first opened her phone to take a look. The online comments were mostly supportive of her. Despite that, there were still some ’Saint Maries’ advising her not to argue with the elderly, saying they’ have gone through struggle as well and don’t have many days left.
She couldn’t tell which side they were really on, but as for asking her not to argue, that was impossible. They bullied her enough back then, and if it were them in her place, she doubted they would have let it slide.
Just as she predicted, those comments were soon drowned out.
After reaching Harper Group, Chris waved and said, “Big Bro, you’re here.”
Kevin nodded, preparing to head back to his office, when he noticed Chris was carrying a cake box. The patterns on it looked familiar, like the ones from Jessie’s store.
Noticing him staring at the box, Chris explained, “Big Bro, are you interested in this? Sister-in-law sent us this. The cakes she made last time were really good, and she sent some more for me to try.”
Those cakes were actually new products she had developed. She wanted people to taste them. Chris had said her cakes were good, so she sent some over for him to try and give feedback.
However, Kevin didn’t know this. He frowned; he was her husband and didn’t even receive any, but Chris did?
Chris hadn’t noticed Kevin’s expression change and continued praising, “Our sister-in-law’s skills are amazing; even better than our dessert chef’s.”
He agreed with Grandpa Harper’s view—Jessie was a treasure, but Kevin had not realized that yet.
“Big Bro, do you want to try some? Grandpa tried them and said they were fantastic. I even gave some to my friends, and they all loved how it tasted. They asked me for the shop’s name, so I gave them the name so that I could help out our sister-in-law with her business.”
Kevin shot him a cold glance. “Eating at work? I’ll deduct your bonus for this month.”
With that, he walked away.
Chris’s eyes widened. Did he hear it wrong? His big brother was deducting his bonus? Was this still humane?
“But...” He stood up, intending to protest with a few words. However, Kevin had directly closed his office door.
Watching his retreating back, Chris suddenly came to a realization and couldn’t help but laugh. “Looks like Big Bro is jealous.”
Returning to his office, Kevin felt a bit unsettled.
