Chapter 61: Can I Kiss You?

"What are you doing?" Kevin’s eyes showed a hint of caution.

Jessie smiled. "Mr. Harper, your smile is so pretty. You should smile more often; having a cold face all the time isn’t good."

His expression turned a shade colder, with a touch of chill to it. She immediately pointed and exclaimed, "Yes, yes; just like that. Mr. Harper, do you know that this expression makes it easy for other people to lose their mood when talking to you?"

As she spoke, she took a small mirror from her bag and aimed it at him.

He took a couple of glances and didn’t find anything wrong. But indeed, just as she had said, the company’s employees tended to avoid him.

She chuckled and continued, "However, Mr. Harper, you’re so handsome that even having a bit of a stern face doesn’t matter."

Upon hearing this, he raised his eyebrows slightly as his expression relaxed. She did know how to talk well, after all.

Just then, Jessie’s phone rang again. She glanced at it, about to hang up. Kevin asked, "Why not answer?"

"I bet it’s them again, calling so that they can ask me to delete the post I put up. I’m too lazy to deal with them. You wouldn’t believe how many messages they’ve sent me. I’ve deleted them all."

He nodded and then said, "If you keep avoiding their calls, how will you get your fifty thousand back? Besides, they will definitely try calling again, so you might as well pick up and see what they have to say."

He had also figured that with the public opinion shifting in Jessie’s favor, they would be in a hurry.

Jessie thought he had a reasonable point, so she pressed to answer the call.

On the other end, Frankie’s voice was urgent, and he said, "Jessie, hurry up and take down that post online. Don’t you know you’re affecting your cousins’ jobs? We’re family; can’t we just talk things out? You’re hurting our family ties by doing this!"

She let out a cold laugh. Did these people even consider their ‘family ties’ when they treated her and Laura like that back then?

"I can delete it if you give me back my fifty thousand."

He was silent momentarily, gritting his teeth before transferring the money back. Then, he said coldly, "Hurry and delete those things, Jessie. None of us will benefit from this if you keep it up. You had better..."

His sentence was cut off by Kevin’s cold voice.

"You should know better who is in an unfavorable situation right now. Before you think of doing something, think of whether you can bear the consequences of it or not. Also, even if the money is returned, you’ve already committed extortion previously, so just wait for the lawyer’s letter from me."

With that, Kevin directly hung up the call. On the other side, Frankie had goosebumps all over. Wasn’t this the husband Jessie said had mental issues? He thought his mind seemed rather sharp!

Damn it, she had tricked him!

Grandpa Moore urgently asked, "Well? Did that brat agree to take it down?"

Frankie shook his head, still speculating about what kind of person Kevin was. Just his voice was enough to leave him trembling.

Grandpa Moore angrily kept berating Jessie.

On the other end, Jessie was somewhat dazed and couldn’t help laughing, "Mr. Harper, did you have me answer the call just so you could properly threaten him?"

Kevin glanced at her. "I also helped you get back your little savings."

She smiled. "Mr. Harper, there’s a lot left from breakfast today. Let me pack some for you to take to work for lunch."

Saying that, she went back to the kitchen to get a food container.

He shook his head. As the president of Harper Group, carrying a pink lunch box to work would not fit his image.

He shook his head and changed to a softer tone, "No need, I’m usually too busy at noon to eat."

"Alright." Jessie nodded. "Oh, right, Lilian and Steve said they were coming to see me today, so I’ll take it to the shop for them to eat it instead."

The mention of Steve immediately hit Kevin’s nerves, and he quickly changed his mind. "Never mind, just give it to me. I don’t seem to have much to do today at noon."

He knew she had no interest in Steve, but hearing his name still made him uncomfortable.

"Really?" She found it strange but didn’t ask further, only handing him the packed lunchbox. "Take care on the road."

Seeing her bright and radiant smile, Kevin took the lunchbox. The sunlight streamed in from the balcony, bathing the entire living room in golden light. He suddenly felt like this kind of life wasn’t so bad as he nodded and replied, "Okay."

Back at the shop, many customers had seen her clarification online and vowed to help her spread it, insisting on punishing those relatives.

Lilian immediately hugged Jessie. "Jessie, thankfully, you’re okay. You scared me. Once I saw your post online, I rallied everyone in the company to help repost and comment." free\we\bnov(e)(l).com

"You? Rallied everyone at the company?" Jessie raised an eyebrow, finding it hard to believe.

Lilian scratched her head. "Well, it was also my boss’s idea, but I really helped repost it!"

Jessie chuckled lightly. "Alright." fre.ewebnov el.com

Steve came in later on with an anxious look, only relaxing when he saw Jessie’s usual expression.

"Jessie, I’m sorry. I’ve been running around for work these days and didn’t know what happened until Lilian told me. If I had known sooner, I could’ve helped."

"It’s fine, my husband helped me a lot. Besides, it’s all over now, right? You even had the whole company help me share the post around; I’m already very grateful." Jessie smiled, immediately inviting the two to sit and serving them the shop’s signature desserts.

His expression subtly changed upon hearing her words, but he said nothing further.

It seemed that Jessie’s husband indeed treated her very well.

The three of them chatted happily, and in the blink of an eye, it was time to close the shop. There weren’t many customers today, so Jessie quickly closed everything up and went home.

At home, she opened a bottle of wine and sat on the balcony, sipping it slowly as she watched the sunset.

There was something unusual about her mood today.

Perhaps it was because she had finally “outshone” her relatives for the first time in a long while.

Or maybe... Kevin was the reason behind it?

Kevin had a plan to come back earlier today, noticing a faint scent of alcohol. He walked to the balcony and saw Jessie, her cheeks flushed.

"Did you drink?"

Seeing him return, she immediately called out, "Mr. Harper, come sit with me. I was just feeling a bit restless, so have some drinks with me."

The cocktail had a low alcohol content, which wasn’t much for Kevin. Thus, he nodded and sat beside her.

She seemed not to know how much she had consumed, as her speech was starting to slur and she leaned unconsciously on his shoulder, murmuring, "Mr. Harper, do you think I’m pitiful? I don’t have a dad, I can’t even make sure my mom lives well, and now I even get bullied by my own relatives."

"You did nothing wrong; there’s no need to blame yourself." His voice was steady, making her strangely feel reassured. .com

She lifted her flushed face, her hazy eyes fixed on his before she gazed down at his lips.

"Mr. Harper, can I kiss you?"
