Chapter 54: Look Whose Wife You’re Talking About

Upon hearing this, Kevin didn’t say much. However, he had already planned the next steps in his mind. He would have Adam handle this matter when the time came.

With only a few pieces of evidence in Jessie’s hands, the incident from years ago could easily be labelled as fabricated if the other party simply denied it. If those people from back home came out to slander her, she would be like a lamb to the slaughter. The credibility of the matter could only increase if those people came forward to speak up on her behalf.

He felt more comfortable leaving this task to Adam.

Far away at Harper Group, Adam sneezed unexpectedly and glanced up at Drake.

"Are you badmouthing me?"

Drake was speechless and shook his head. "No."

He had no time to badmouth Adam. In worry that Jessie might see him, he had been ordered to keep some distance from Kevin.

Kevin had made this decision precisely because he had been in the position of power at Harper Group for a long time. He knew exactly how evil people’s hearts could be in front of profit and how insignificant so-called goodwill could be. It was precisely due to his understanding of these things that he wanted to help Jessie and quickly free her from this situation.

The power of public opinion was terrifying. Even though he was in charge of Harper Group with immense power, he had to be careful with his words and actions. Otherwise, the media could make a big fuss over them.

What he was truly worried about was how this might affect business at Jessie’s shop.

He didn’t tell her about this. Later on, he planned to find a good time and let Adam know.

The fact that her cousin could stir up this much attention indicated that there were people backing them. Adam would resolve this issue once the time came.

Who dared mess with Jessie—his woman—without fear of death? Did they really think he was an easy target? They would need to witness his power first, or else they would continue underestimating him.

Jessie stared at Kevin, who was focused on driving, and felt warm in her heart.

She didn’t know that he was already thinking about how to deal with those people. She only knew that he had not left her when she got caught up in a storm of public opinion. Instead, he silently stood by her side. That alone made him far better compared to William.

Noticing her gaze, he thought she was worried and took the initiative to comfort her.

"Don’t worry. Since you married me, Jessie, I won’t let anyone bully you. Otherwise, my name isn’t Kevin Harper."

Hearing his stereotypical CEO-like comment, Jessie chuckled. "Mr. Harper, do you read too many novels just like Lilian?"

"What?" Kevin looked puzzled.

She waved her hand. "Nothing; it’s just that your words moved me. I assumed that everyone would always consider themselves first when faced with their interests, regardless of their relationship. We’ve only been married for a short time, and we don’t have strong feelings for each other. Despite that, you’re willing to stick around with me when I’m going through trouble. It makes me feel warm."

If this matter wasn’t handled well, it could severely harm her and might even adversely affect those around her.

"My stepdad has been married to my mom for years, and she even gave him a son. He wouldn’t be where he is today without her help. But when he found out about this matter, the first thing he did was to call her and threaten her not to let this affect him in any way. He had such a terrible attitude," Jessie said as she sighed, feeling awful for Laura.

William wasn’t someone Kevin liked. Even after a few interactions, he could sense that he was a very selfish and self-serving person. It was no surprise that he would do such things.

"Jessie, not everyone in this world is like him, and he doesn’t represent everyone. You don’t need to judge everyone just by him or those relatives of yours. There are still more good people in this world."

Additionally, his male intuition was telling him that William was definitely up to no good. However, since he and Jessie hadn’t been married long and there wasn’t any solid evidence proving William’s infidelity, it was a bit too early to say anything. \n(o)v.e\l.com

Jessie nodded, agreeing with Kevin’s words.

Whether it was Laura’s marriage or those parasitic relatives, they had given her a different perspective on so-called love and humanity. She resented love and felt that human nature couldn’t be understood.

But fortunately, she met Kevin. Other than sometimes being cold and hard to talk to, he was an excellent man who always took responsibility for everything. f\ree webn ovel(.)com

Jessie immediately thought of what Lilian had told her. After all, her agreement with him was only for half a year, and decent men like him were rare. Why should she not take this chance and try to build a relationship with him?

She shook her head slightly, not knowing why such thoughts suddenly crossed her mind. However, something inside her seemed to change.

"We’re almost there. Let’s buy a bottle of water and take a short break up ahead."

"Alright." She nodded. She wasn’t the one driving, so it was no surprise that Kevin felt tired.

She went to buy a bottle of water, while he said he needed some fresh air and walked a little further away. He took out his phone and called Adam.

"Hey, aren’t you with your wife? What made you think of calling me? If you don’t want a kid yet, you should be prepared to avoid that outcome. Wait, you’re not asking me to deliver that stuff to you, are you?"

"Adam Lambert!" Kevin shouted his name through gritted teeth. Adam finally restrained his teasing a bit and replied, "Alright, tell me what you need from me."

"She’s in some trouble now. You’ve investigated her family situation, right? Go to her hometown and find the people who know the truth from back then. No matter what method you use, make sure they speak up for Jessie!"

Hearing his request, Adam couldn’t help but feel speechless.

Did he even understand what "overqualified" meant? He had to handle such a trivial matter? Did Kevin truly see him as just an errand boy? fre.eweb novel\.c om

Despite his thoughts, he had to agree anyway.

"What about your wife? Does she have any ideas?"

"She wants to return to her hometown to see their current situation, bring out the agreement signed back then, and get the media to publicize the truth from that time. However, if some people from her hometown are willing to speak up and clarify things for her, it would be more beneficial as her relatives won’t have any space left to fight back."

"Nice—being able to stay calm and make a judgment in such a situation. Looks like you two are a great match," Adam praised.

Kevin raised his eyebrows, feeling a bit smug. "Just look at whose wife we’re talking about."
