Chapter 29: Nobody Else
At the shop entrance, Lilian ran over with her hands clasped together as she said, "Jessie, please make some small cakes now. That client loves desserts, especially freshly-made cakes. Help me out, and I’ll buy all the leftover stock from tomorrow!"
Jessie waved her hand nonchalantly. "There’s no need for that. I can hardly make enough to sell every day. It’s no big deal; it’s just a cake or two. I’ll bake a few."
Hearing this, Lilian hugged her waist with a grateful face. "Aww, Jessie, you’re so wonderful. If you were a man, I would definitely marry you."
"Alright, cut it out. Just bring the person over," Jessie said as she tied her apron and headed toward the kitchen.
Lilian brought the client, Mr. Chase, into the store. He surveyed the shop’s décor—it was beautiful and warm, and he couldn’t help but nod. This was the first collaboration between their two companies, and Lilian valued it greatly to the point that she had even dressed up for the occasion. However, Mr. Chase only thought she had ulterior motives.
Lilian wasn’t aware of this and politely gestured with her hand. "Mr. Chase, please have a seat. Just enjoy some desserts, and we can slowly discuss the collaboration details."
"Alright." He nodded. Seeing Lilian’s pretty face, he felt a slight itch in his heart.
"I’ll go take a look." Lilian stood up, intending to check Jessie’s preparations in the kitchen.
Just then, Jessie came out of the kitchen with freshly-baked cupcakes and saw Mr. Chase staring at Lilian’s backside. Her eyebrows furrowed sharply.
Sensing someone watching him, he quickly looked away and fixed his tie, pretending nothing happened.
Although Jessie was annoyed, she didn’t want to disrupt Lilian’s work and could only grit her teeth as she set the desserts on the table.
Seeing her face, Mr.Chase’s eyes lit up immediately. The one who just came out was even more beautiful than Lilian, and she even had an excellent figure. He couldn’t help but rub his hands together.
"Mr. Chase, this is Jessie, the shop owner. She’s also a good friend of mine," Lilian said with a smile.
He nodded, and Lilian sat down to discuss the collaboration details with him. Jessie originally planned to leave, but he suddenly said it would be better if Jessie stayed as well.
Although she didn’t know why, Lilian trusted Jessie very much and agreed to the request. Jessie didn’t mind and simply sat beside them.
During the conversation, Mr. Chase often diverted the topic toward Jessie. Upon learning that she was married, he was a bit disappointed.
Despite this, the collaboration made Lilian feel very uncomfortable. She remained polite and gentle while speaking to him, but he had assumed she might have sold her body to reach her current position. He frequently told vulgar jokes, making both Lilian and Jessie feel uneasy.
Jessie couldn’t interrupt Lilian’s collaboration with this person, so she silently endured everything while clenching her fists.
Eventually, it was Lilian who couldn’t take it anymore; she excused herself to the restroom.
She frantically called Steve, complaining about the client who not only made vulgar jokes but also tried to make moves on her a few times.
She swore she would lose it if she had to entertain male clients again.
On the other hand, Jessie was even more reluctant to engage with Mr. Chase as she completely ignored his attempts at conversation.
At that moment, Kevin arrived just in time to see his wife with a stranger.
Was she really cheating on him so blatantly?
Could it be that after signing the agreement with Jessie last time, she realized she had nothing more to gain and was in a hurry to find someone else?
His eyes darkened. Just as he was about to say something, he saw Lilian come out of the restroom and say something to the man, pointing at the door.
"Miss Lilian, I advise you to think it through. If this cooperation doesn’t succeed, both parties will lose significant benefits!" Mr. Chase was a bit angry, but Lilian couldn’t care less and directly replied.
"Our boss said not to work with sleazy, black-hearted people like you! Even if it means taking a loss, he would rather do it!"
"You!"
"Yeah, you what?! Get out!" she cursed out. Feeling like that wasn’t enough, she wanted to kick him out personally.
Mr. Chase immediately rolled up his sleeves, his face twisted. "If you don’t show some respect, you might find yourself in trouble! You two bitches dare to shout in front of me?!"
"Who are you calling a bitch?!" Lilian shouted in anger, "Say that again if you dare!"
"I’m talking about you!" He sneered. He raised his hand to slap her, but someone stopped his wrist in an instant.
A low, magnetic voice rang out.
"Say that again if you dare."
Mr. Chase turned his head at the voice, wanting to see who dared to ruin his plans.
He turned only to see a tall man full of fierce energy. The man’s arm was muscular, his veins slightly bulging.
In comparison, Mr. Chase felt like a coward and immediately backed down.
"I... I..." he stammered, unable to reply as he desperately retreated.
"Get out!" Kevin grimaced. The man’s pathetic demeanor only filled him with more anger.
Bullying the weak and being cowardly, this guy was a disgrace to all men.
As Kevin let him go, Mr. Chase hurried out in fear of delaying even another second.
"Why are you here?" Jessie asked in confusion. Lilian looked at Kevin, immediately recognizing he was Jessie’s husband.
He was handsome in the photos, but in reality, he was even more stunning!
"What, afraid I’ll ruin your good time?" Kevin’s eyes showed a touch of sarcasm.
Jessie immediately realized he had misunderstood and hurriedly explained, "He’s a client from Lilian’s company, here to discuss business. I was just accompanying them."
She just wanted to clarify that she had no intention of looking for someone else.
Lilian, afraid of causing a misunderstanding, also helped explain. Hearing this, Kevin’s expression softened slightly. He glanced at Jessie before turning to leave.
"Remember to come home early tonight."
"Okay." Jessie nodded, watching his departing figure and finding it even more bizarre.
What was he doing here? Was he here just to remind her to go home early? That was a bit odd.
On the other hand, Kevin drove his old pickup to the Harper family estate. Grandpa Harper was happily sampling the small cakes Jessie sent, not forgetting to take pictures and show off.
"Grandpa, did you intentionally orchestrate today’s incident?"
