Chapter 26: Drunk
Chapter 26: Drunk
Though he thought it through clearly, the frustration in his heart did not go away. He went to Bryan’s house to drink.
Bryan was very welcoming, even finding Steven’s arrival surprising.
"Why on earth did you come here so late at night?"
Kevin entered with a somber face. "I’m feeling a bit down, so I wanted to get some drinks."
"Is it about work? Let me tell you, sometimes things just don’t go smoothly, and it’s normal. Even though you’re very capable, but..."
Before Bryan could finish his words, Kevin interrupted him.
"It’s not about work—it’s about a person."
Hearing this, Bryan couldn’t help but laugh. He curiously examined Kevin’s expression as he said, "Who is it? To think someone out there can actually make you feel depressed, it’s unbelievable."
Kevin didn’t reply to his question, only waving his hand. "That’s enough. Stop talking nonsense, I just came to drink with you today."
He definitely wouldn’t share that he was upset because of a woman; if he did, Bryan would laugh at him to death.
It was not that he would hide it forever—he just could not tell him now.
Bryan didn’t push him and simply patted his shoulder. "Alright. Since you’re here today, I’ll get some good wine from the cellar for you."
The two of them drank cup after cup. Originally, Kevin had a good tolerance for alcohol. But for some unknown reason today, he drank a lot more and got completely wasted. As for Bryan, needless to say, he only lay down on the sofa.
Eventually, despite being drunk, Kevin maintained some form of rationale and called for a bodyguard to take him back to the Quiet River Community.
He had just met her parents today; if he stayed out all night, it would be a bit disrespectful to Jessie.
The bodyguard wanted to speak out some words of advice, but seeing Kevin in such a state, having a rational conversation would not be possible. So, they simply returned to the Quiet River Community.
Afraid something would happen to Kevin but also worried Jessie might find out, the bodyguard carefully escorted him all the way to the door before asking quietly.
"Master Kevin, should I wake Madam up?"
It was pretty late at night now, and Jessie was likely asleep. Kevin waved his hand, rummaging in his pockets and trying to get the keys.
He didn’t want Jessie to take care of him. After all, they merely held the title of husband and wife. What if Jessie tried something improper while he was drunk?
He had never been in a relationship or had much contact with women, so he was still quite innocent.
He had been focused on work since childhood, spending his days going between his home and the company without any interest in meeting women or thinking about love.
Due to this, Grandpa Harper criticized him a lot. However, he didn’t have much thought about love in the first place. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have rashly married Jessie. All he wanted was to make Grandpa Harper stop nagging at him.
After searching his pockets for a while without finding the key, the bodyguard finally couldn’t stand it and softly reminded him.
"Master Kevin, you probably didn’t bring the key out with you. So, should I wake Madam up?"
This time, Kevin nodded, which was taken as his tacit approval.
The knocking on the door woke Jessie up. She had always been easily awakened by the slightest bit of noise, so she naturally heard the knocking.
She put on a coat and then opened the door.
Seeing her, Drake immediately explained, "Hello, Miss. This gentleman got drunk at a shop, so I escorted him back. Here are the car keys for you."
He handed Kevin over to Jessie. Kevin, who was already swaying on his feet due to intoxication, leaned heavily on her.
She gritted her teeth and smiled at Drake. "Thank you very much, here’s a tip for you."
Jessie took some cash from her pocket and handed it to Drake, who accepted it and then quickly left after sizing up Kevin.
Then, she swiftly locked the door and helped Kevin into his room. Her eyes were full of disdain when she noticed the alcohol smell on him. "How could you drink that much? You stink, and you’re so heavy."
Kevin didn’t reply, only inwardly blaming Jessie. Didn’t she know why he got drunk?
After getting him to his room door, she gestured for him to enter and lie down while reminding him, "The agreement says your room is a personal space; I can’t just step in, so get in and lie down. Whether you can stand your stench is up to you. You look so drunk that you could probably fall in the bathroom."
Kevin leaned against the wall, staggering in as he glared at her. So indifferent and heartless!
She shrugged. "Mr. Harper, I’ve done my best. Rest well; I’ll close the door."
With that, she shut the door and returned to her room.
Once back, Jessie eagerly tossed off her coat and fell onto the soft bed. "So sleepy!"
Kevin sat on his bed, pondering for a while. As sleepiness took over, he soon fell asleep.
The next day, perhaps due to all that drinking from last night, he woke up late. The alcohol and sweat smell lingering on him made his eyebrows furrow in discomfort, prompting a quick shower.
After taking a shower, he finally felt a bit more refreshed. Just thinking about how he had been drunk last night, Kevin made up his mind that he would never let himself get into that state again.
However, he was pleased Jessie didn’t take advantage of him while drunk. Although she did leave him at the door, he was the one who had written that rule in the agreement.
He figured he would take things one step at a time after drafting it.
Once groomed, he intended to have breakfast but found neither Jessie nor breakfast at the table.
He walked over to the table and found a note from Jessie.
It said she woke up late today, so she had not prepared breakfast. She had gone to the shop and suggested he handle breakfast himself.
Kevin was speechless.
Unaware of his expression, Jessie was seated on a sofa in the shop, researching how to make a new blueberry cake.
With the rising temperature, she planned to make an ice cream cake for a more pleasant taste and potentially better sales.
The store wasn’t that eventful over the weekend, but she enjoyed the time alone—it was quiet, and she could focus on things she wanted to do in peace.
"Jessie! Did you miss me?" Lilian’s voice came from the door.
