Chapter 64: Do You Want a Wedding?
Aiden fisted his hands. "Isn’t he trying to use your "influence"? Huh? You called me a user and who is the user now?" He raised his voice.
It’s high time she learns that she is a woman and should keep her head down.
Rudolf who was standing in the way moved seeing Marcella taking charge. He did his duty by warning the stupid guy. He couldn’t understand why Paul even thought he was smart. Fogarty? More like Go-Farty. Was he raised by uncultured swine to not know that it is wrong to raise his hand against a woman?
Paul said that he was Marcella’s ex-lover. Why did she date this kind of guy? He’s heard that women tend to marry their fathers. Did she forget what kind of man her father was? She truly is stupid.
But that guy... Even if he’s not scared of Marcella, does he not know who Tony Crawford is? He is foolish enough to touch Tony’s wife even after seeing how protective he was of her.
Why did she date someone more foolish than her?
Eh... but she ended up marrying Tony. No surprise there. Don DeAngelo would be proud.
He didn’t care if Aiden did anything against Marcella. Tony would have marked him. He didn’t want to be a witness to anything. His father would blame him if he did nothing to help Marcella. He didn’t want to be caught helping Marcella.
He walked out of the room. He had no hopes for Paul if he trusts stupid guys. He’s wealthy and has enough money to last a hundred lifetimes but that doesn’t mean he was going to mindlessly throw it away to fools.
Paul hurriedly followed Rudolf out in panic. He needed the Hemmingway money.
Marcella didn’t stop even when she saw Aiden fisting his hands. She could feel Tony’s warmth around her. She used to feel secure when she went out with her father too.
The smirk on Aiden’s face disappeared but stepped back reflexively seeing Tony behind her. Tony was not much taller than her. Aiden could only see his eyes behind Marcella’s head.
But those eyes... They made his heart melt into a puddle.
When Aiden met Tony’s eyes, he felt the darkness of Hades enshroud him. The darkness wrapped around his throat blocking his airway and felt like he was drowned inside a cold-water tub that made his skin boil. He loudly gasped for air unconsciously.
"What? You are scared now, Aiden?" Marcella smirked. "Why aren’t you calling him a coward now, Aiden? Come on... Do it..." She stopped just a foot away from him.
With her eyes burning like the fires of hell, she looked up at Aiden. Sweat was dripping from his forehead and his eyes were wide with fear.
"Are you smart enough to figure out why he stands behind me, Aiden?" Marcella asked.
Aiden’s fear-struck eyes ended up on Marcella. His hands which were ready to hurt her a moment ago had gone cold and were shaking.
"You’re going to piss your pants, are you? Eww!"
Marcella cringed and walked out of the room. Her heart was beating fast out of excitement but she was happy more than anything.
As they walked in the streets, Tony held her hand.
"Should we be concerned McLaughlin wants to meet with you?" Tony asked.
"Hmm?" Marcella pressed her lips. He was right to worry. Those two gangs used to be enemies. And McLaughlin didn’t come to her sister’s funeral. It is fishy. To meet Hemmingway and McLaughlin in their preferred place could be fatal.
"Is there any way to learn of their activities after my sister’s death?" she asked.
Her sister’s death could very well be connected to McLaughlin.
Tony smiled proudly. She is willing to take the charge. He was more than willing to let her take the lead just like her father wanted her to.
"I’ll take you somewhere."
Marcella walked with him. He brought her to the famous jewelry shop every woman dreams of.
Are we going to buy our rings here?
Tony brought her in. He had been saving for the wedding bands for more than five years. Although he had no hope she would come to him, he was still holding hope. He was planning on taking it for other expenses when times were tough for him but till now he hadn’t used a single penny from that savings.
He wanted to know what her preference was.
Marcella walked into the store. The salesgirl showed her a lot of rings enthusiastically seeing the size of her ring. She wanted to ask for Tony’s preference but he left everything to her.
Marcella chose a few of the yellow gold rings. Some were chunky and gaudy. Her father wore a very chunky ring to make sure anyone who look at him from the end of the hallway would see his wedding band. It was intentional as he told her.
Should she make him wear a gaudy ring?
Marcella decided against it though. He aspires to be a politician and it won’t be good for him to wear gaudy jewelry as if he was flaunting his wealth. He should keep appearances as a common man.
She chose a pair of matching simple rings. She liked simple jewelry unlike her mother and sister had different preferences.
Tony paid for it immediately without saying anything. She could see that he was pleased though.
"You are smiling," she said as he kept the rings in his pocket.
"I thought you’d take hours to choose a ring. You chose this within ten minutes," he said.
"Don’t you think this one is perfect?" she asked.
It’s not like she didn’t care. She cared to choose the perfect ones except there’s not much to choose about a wedding band. Is she too simple, maybe?
"It is..." Tony said.
It really was perfection. He had his eye on that pair as soon as they entered the store. He liked the simple and yet elegant design. She chose the same as him.
He would wear a literal plastic wedding band for life if that’s what she chose for him. He was over the moon with happiness.
As they walked further there were a lot of wedding dress stores. Marcella couldn’t help but stare at the mannequins at the show windows. Those beautiful ruffles, bows and laces...
Tony noticed she was staring at the wedding dresses.
"Marcella," Tony held her hand. "Do you want a wedding?" he asked.
He has enough savings for a wedding too. In fact, Don DeAngelo left some money with him for her wedding.
