Chapter 65: His Disappointment

Chapter 65: His Disappointment

"A wedding?" Marcella raised her brows.

The smile on her face was replaced with a grimace as she tried to keep her appearance. When she looked at those dresses, she did feel sad for a moment because she never got to wear a pretty dress at her wedding.

"Those dresses..." she pointed at them. "I don’t even like them," she chuckled awkwardly. "Let’s go..."

Tony stared at her back as she walked to the front. She says she doesn’t like those types of dresses, but she was wearing one such dress for prom. He could say she loved the dress by the way she walked, no, glided in those matching shoes.

Ah, she smelled so much more beautiful than she usually did. When they danced on the dance floor, she looked like a lily as her dress flowed around her with the ruffles on her shoulders. Chiffon, was it?

The fabric was soft. She was wearing gloves but he had a chance to hold her bare hand. She was the softest.

Ah, the struggle he faced trying to calm his little guy when they were dancing... He didn’t want to come off like a pervert but his little guy had no mercy on him that night.

That was the first time she had worn lipstick and makeup and those eyes...and those lips...

No matter how bad a day was, thinking of her smile on the day of the prom had the magical ability to make his day instantly better. He couldn’t stop smiling thinking of that night.

She was wearing a blue dress and he was wearing a matching tuxedo she chose. She told him that she chose that color to match his eyes.

He wanted to kiss her then and there.

"Tony!"

Tony came out of his reverie hearing her voice.

"Coming," he walked by her side with a smile on his face. "We have to have a wedding party for our friends. You can arrange it if you want," he said trying to see what she feels.

A lot of times he found that she hides her true wishes. She didn’t use to be like that.

Aiden screwed her up.

"A party?" Marcella bit her lower lip in deep thought.

A wedding party is needed considering they didn’t have a traditional wedding. It would help in solidifying the custody of little Joey. Also, they need to be introduced as a couple to everyone. She should invite her friends. Tony should invite his friends too. Let every one of them know that he is married!

Plus, she needs to gain experience arranging parties and whatnot if she’s going to become a politician’s wife. She should form friendships with the upper echelons of society and other politicians.

What better way is there other than to arrange a wedding party?

"We should," she said.

She could see it was better to have a wedding party but then her insecurities started acting.

What if I screw up? What if no one attends the party? What if no one likes the food? What if no one enjoys the party?

She was not left in her thoughts for long as she was dragged inside a shop.

"Let’s choose a dress for the party," Tony brought her inside.

Marcella didn’t have any time to react. She currently had not even a single penny she could spare for a dress. But once inside, she was mesmerized by the collections inside.

She looked at Tony who was sifting through the large puffs of white gowns with an excitement of a toddler in a candy shop. He appeared to be more excited than she was.

Seeing his excitement, she got her excitement back. "I’m not sure these big dresses would suit me..." she said.

A wedding is once in a lifetime event. She wanted to wear the most perfect dress for that occasion. Well, it’s a party and it should suit the theme and should suit her personality too.

"You’d look good in anything," he said.

Marcella chuckled. "It’s not even a surprise... But you are useless..."

How can she choose the perfect dress if there is no one there to criticize?

"What? Why?" he was shocked.

"Never mind," Marcella laughed. "I’ll bring my mother-in-law later."

Only when she saw the smile on his face reduce did she realize that she made the wrong joke. She forgot Tony’s mother is still alive.

"I meant Gloria. I’m sorry I was~"

"Never mind," Tony’s smile came back to his face. For a moment he feared if she really wanted to ask for the help of "that" woman. He would never want her to be treated as a lesser person by that woman.

"I’ll come back with my friend. Isn’t there a tradition stating that the groom cannot see the wedding dress?" Marcella asked the sales girl. The salesgirl was a little disappointed seeing them leave but she smiled professionally and told her that she’d be waiting for her return.

Marcella walked out of the store. Near the door was a mannequin with a cathedral-length tulle veil. The edges were scalloped with beautiful embroidery work.

Tony stood by the veil as he was pulled by its beauty. "You’d look pretty in it," he said.

He always wanted to see her in a veil. He wanted to do the traditional lifting the veil ceremony.

In fact, it would have been better if they got married in a Church. It would have been a lot better if Don DeAngelo walked her down the aisle and handed over her to him.

He sighed unconsciously.

Marcella covered her cheeks with her hands. "A veil? That’s too much!" She couldn’t believe Tony would suggest a veil for her.

After that incident at the party, the whole world would laugh at her if she chose to wear a veil. He probably doesn’t know that a veil signifies virginity. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have suggested it.

Although she is a virgin, everyone believes her not to be one. She didn’t want to get mocked by everyone.

"Why?" Tony didn’t understand why she refused so strongly.

Marcella scratched her head. "A veil... A veil is too much for a wedding party. Usually, brides wear the veil only at the wedding ceremony," she said.

She really needs to tell him that she didn’t sleep with that guy she was engaged with. But this is not the place, is it?

"Oh?" Tony was greatly disappointed.

But she was right. He has attended a few wedding parties. None of the brides wore their veils to the reception.

Marcella saw the disappointment on his face. She became sad. But she was not going to wear a veil.
