Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband
Chapter 63: Root of Her Insecurity

Chapter 63: Root of Her Insecurity

Marcella sensed Tony stepping into the cabin and everyone’s attention turned toward him. Marcella saw Paul wiping the perspiration off his face. Aiden scoffed at her and Rudolf was stunned to see her.

"Hi there, Aiden," Marcella smiled.

Aiden gritted his teeth but minding the other two men in the room, he managed to control his anger and his mouth. He wouldn’t want to speak first when there are more powerful men than him in the room.

What did I even see in him in the past? I was besotted with him and his revolutionary speeches! He looked like someone with ambition.

Marcella sighed. People change. The revolutionary hero turned out to be a control freak who became a run-in-the-mill politician who likes to save his own skin rather than doing good.

At least he has the guts to do something like this in secret... Maybe she should appreciate him for his courage.

"Rudolf..." she sang to the tune of the popular Christmas song. "We met a year or two ago~"

"What do you want?" Rudolf interjected her. His lips were trembling and his eyebrows were tensed as he tried to stop her from talking.

"Me?" Marcella pointed at herself. "I had a nice dinner here with my husband, until~"

"Husband?" Aiden interjected her. "You’re calling him your husband? Not only did you cheat the government and..." He was too angry he couldn’t even speak properly and his fingers trembled. "It was for the will, wasn’t it? Someone leaked you the will and~"

"What’s this fool talking about?" Tony said.

Marcella took a quick glance at Tony. He was leaning by the door casually folding his hands over his chest and a smirk was hanging on his lips.

"No idea," Marcella clicked her tongue.

Aiden’s lips twitched as he tried to speak but he was intercepted by Rudolf. "What do you want, Marcella?"

"Nothing much..." She walked closer to him. "Just... How is your father doing, Rudolph?" she asked.

"Will you stop singing my name?" Rudolf gritted his teeth.

"Okay, if that bothers you..." Marcella shrugged. "Your father never shouts like this Rudolf. That reminds me... Gabriel used to like this place that sold the best coffee. What was it called...? St. Patrick’s Inn? Yeah..."

She pressed her lips.

St. Patrick’s Inn was the cover for the Irish Mafia. Their gang and the Irish Mafia didn’t get along well as they fought for turf all the time. Hemmingway used the Irish Mafia to do his dirty deeds. After her father’s death, she heard that the Irish mafia took control of the harbor. That means Hemmingway will still be working with the Irish mob.

"You want to be blown away?" Rudolf smirked. "By the taste of the coffee, of course...Not with grenades or anything..." His eyes turned dangerous. She cannot threaten to expose his father’s connection to the Irish mafia.

Aiden looked around. He couldn’t understand what was going on but he could see that the situation in the small cabin got heated. The tension in the room could be cut with a knife; he felt suffocated.

Marcella was still looking at him with a smile. "I didn’t see Gabriel at the funeral," she asked.

Paul who was observing everything scoffed and sipped his scotch.

So, all of the drama she enacted was to just meet Gabriel Hemmingway? Even he didn’t get the audience with Gabriel. Gabriel only sent his son. Who is she? Just because she asks, will Gabriel meet with her? Heh!

"Here," Rudolf walked to Tony and offered a card. "There’s a meeting next weekend."

Paul was stunned to even swallow the scotch and ended up coughing as the liquor burned his lungs. Marcella bowed her head and rubbed her nose. She knew Gabriel wouldn’t invite her to the meeting without the knowledge of the gang lord.

The Irish mafia wants to talk to me. Interesting...

Aiden was staring at her and she met his eyes. His face was filled with disgust. She couldn’t understand one thing. Why is it not wrong for him to meet with those shady people, but it is wrong for her to do the same? She is one of the shady people.

Also, he came with me that day to the Romano house just to make acquaintance with Paul.

She turned her attention toward Tony.

Tony looked at the card with his hands in his trouser pocket. He was leaning on the wall casually. One cannot say whether he was liking this development or not by his expression. "The invitation is for me?" he asked.

Rudolf looked at Tony perplexed. "My father wanted to meet the youngest DeAngelo for some time."

"Okay," Tony still had his hand in his trouser pocket. "I’m not the youngest DeAngelo, am I?" He shrugged.

"You’re her husband. Aren’t you going to bring her there?" Rudolf scoffed.

Just because he was offering something they think of it as less. He would have walked out but his father had tasked him with bringing Marcella to the meeting. He was lingering because he didn’t want to lower himself to find ways to meet her. He didn’t want to lose this perfect chance and step inside her house to invite her.

"Am I her keeper though?" Tony asked.

Rudolf rolled his eyes. Mumbling curses under her breath, he walked to Marcella and handed over the card. Marcella got the card. Rudolf avoided meeting her eyes.

Tony smiled with satisfaction seeing Marcella accepting the card. That’s how she should be treated. She’s not an extension of him just because they are married. She is her own person. She deserves respect.

But he did wonder what secret Rudolf and Marcella have. Rudolf used to have the upper hand over Marcella in the past but now it seemed like he was avoiding her out of fear.

Wow! Look at her smile... she has something on him. Good!

She never fought for herself. She never cared to. He didn’t like that side of her. If she was not going to respect herself, who else will? He will make sure she will live with her chin up for the rest of her life.

She is Marcella DeAngelo, Don DeAngelo’s dearest daughter.

Aiden scoffed. Paul appeared to be filled with regret.

"What is it Aiden?" Marcella asked. She liked to see him squirm. "Did you choke on something?"

"You’re..." Aiden walked at her pointing his finger at her. "I knew you were a b*tch, Marcella!"

Unconsciously, Marcella stepped back. Perspiration formed on her forehead and a chill went through her spine as memories of him getting aggressive at her surfaced.

She thought she was over it. She thought he wouldn’t treat her the same in front of others. But she was wrong.

Tony noticed the change in her expression. Before he held back Aiden who was lunging at her, Rudolf intervened.

"Whoa, there!" Rudolf stopped him by pushing on his chest. "Who is he?" he looked at Paul disgusted by his behavior.

What kind of man puts his hands on a woman?

Paul found Aiden’s aggressiveness interesting and was smiling. He thought Aiden was gutsy to get aggressive at Don DeAngelo’s daughter. But hearing the disgust in Rudolf’s voice, he stood up with a stoic expression.

"Are you okay?" Tony asked gently rubbing her back.

’Yeah," Marcella wetted her lips. She has Tony by her side. She’s not in danger anymore. "I’m fine."

Tony glared at Aiden. It took every ounce of his will to keep himself from punching Aiden to death. He thought they separated because Aiden was a sanctimonious b*tch and they differed in opinions.

He had his doubts when he saw the insecure Marcella in front of him. He hoped Aiden didn’t have that much influence on her life to lose her confidence. But it was apparent.

She is not out of blame, but Aiden... Aiden is to be blamed for ruining her confidence.

Tony fisted his hands.

Not now... Not now... Not like this...

He kept on repeating in his mind to keep himself from murdering Aiden then and there. He cannot be impulsive. He will devise a plan to handle Aiden. Aiden does not deserve a quick death.

"Heh!" Aiden walked past Rudolf. "Aren’t you ashamed to hide behind a woman?" he asked.

Tony chuckled. "Who? Me?" he asked.

Marcella took in a deep breath. She didn’t know what Aiden was thinking. What right does he have to blame Tony? Who is he to even think he could talk about Tony?

"Who is hiding?" Marcella took a step back.

Tony looked at her hand as her warmth left. With the sharp eyes of an eagle, he observed Aiden. Marcella can do what she wants to do. He just has to watch if Aiden dares to take one wrong move.

"Do you think Tony is a coward like you, Aiden? Huh?" she took a large step forward.

Seeing Marcella marching toward him, Aiden gritted his teeth. This woman knows only to anger him. Can’t she be just a pretty flower and keep her voice down? Why is she acting like a thug? That darned blood that flows in her...

He took a step forward with his hand fisted. She needs to learn the truth.

It’s a man’s world. She’d fail if she goes against a man.
