Chapter 50: Lost

He decided to wait by the door for some time. He had no idea where she might be. But she will return to work. He checked the time. There were only twenty minutes left for her lunch break to be over.

He waited for almost twenty minutes, and he couldn’t find her. He wondered if she was already in the building, or...

Could she be in danger?

He decided to call Henry to know where she was. Henry knows her location at all times. Any time she goes anywhere, Stanley, who was watching her will inform Henry. Henry would know.

Just as he was about to find a phone booth, he saw Marcella alighting from a cab. She was in a hurry as she paid the driver. Her hair was messy, and she almost twisted her ankle as her shoe slipped as she stepped on the curb.

He rushed to her.

Marcella was panting even though she was driven back. She ran all the way to their apartment and had to check on the baby. By the time she had reached there, the baby had stopped crying.

In the end, there was no need for her to rush there. She felt so useless and like an idiot. She had no grip on anything and felt helpless. She didn’t know how she was going to proceed.

Also, she was hungry and her legs hurt with all the running. She looked for the wipes in her purse to wipe the perspiration off her face.

"Marcella!"

She looked up surprised to hear Tony’s voice.

"What are you still doing here?" She asked. She thought he would leave after having lunch with Cindy.

Tony blinked. "Still?" he asked. He found her question odd.

Marcella pressed her lips. She must be so tired she’s spouting whatever comes to her mind. Why should she care whom he had lunch with?

She tried not to care for the past half an hour but couldn’t. All she could think was the image of Tony affectionately holding Cindy’s hand.

Cindy! Cindy, of all women...

She concluded that he might actually be in love with Cindy. He had to pretend to care more for her to "catch" her in his snare. And now that she’s secure as his wife, he can openly be lovey-dovey with his lady love.

She rubbed her stomach as she felt nauseated. It must be because she was hungry. Yeah, it should be gastritis. What else could it be? Jealousy?

No way!

She does not have any feelings toward Tony. So, she cannot feel jealous.

Well, maybe... It just could be the hate for Cindy acting up. Maybe she wouldn’t feel this way if it was any other woman than Cindy.

"It’s getting late," she said checking her time. "I cannot afford to lose pay," she tried to walk past Tony.

Tony grabbed her arm and stopped her.

"What?" she asked. "I’m late."

"Where did you go? Did you eat?" Tony asked.

She did not look good.

"What do you want, Tony?" she asked with her eyebrows furrowed. His face annoyed her.

"My kiss," Tony said.

He could see that she was mad. But he didn’t know why. He was scared to let her go and so he said what he said. His brain just stops working whenever he sees her angry.

He just told her what he wanted the most.

"For f*ck’s sake, Tony!" Marcella gritted her teeth. "Now is not the time and this is not the place."

Tony grabbed her hand and dragged her to the alleyway next to her work building. There was nothing in there except some dumpsters and garbage bags.

He pinned her to the wall and leaned to her face.

Marcella sighed and closed her eyes. If he was going to kiss her, she just hoped he’d finish with it sooner. With her eyes closed, her other senses got heightened.

She could feel the warmth of his hand spreading from her back to her entire body. His scent enveloped her and when he exhaled, his warm breath tingled her cheek.

The careless attitude she had some moments ago had its foundation shaken as she could feel him getting closer to her face.

She can never stop having feelings for him. And it angered her. She felt ashamed of herself for being so weak.

Tony stopped. She was stiff and her eyes were trembling. He didn’t want to kiss her anymore.

"You’re not wearing your ring," Tony said. He wanted to let her know that it annoys him.

Marcella opened her eyes. He was looking at her as if he was so perfect. She scoffed. She didn’t know what Tony was planning on doing. He still couldn’t kiss her even. Until some minutes ago, he was with another woman. And now he is accusing her of not wearing her ring.

Where did he think I went? Did he think I was doing the same just because he was cheating?

The thought of him doubting her made her enraged. She didn’t want to answer him.

Without saying a word, she looked at his empty ring finger.

Tony cleared his throat and put his hand in his pocket. Yeah, how can he ask her to wear her ring when he was not wearing his ring?

"We should get wedding bands," he said, forcing a smile.

"We should," Marcella said. "If you’re not going to kiss me, let me leave." She tried to push him back.

Tony chuckled and leaned on her hands. She tried to push him away but she couldn’t. his chuckle turned to a full-blown laugh. Marcella noticed the people walking on the street looking at them.

"You’re pushing my buttons, Tony. Move!" she gritted her teeth.

"What’s bothering you, Marcella," Tony held her cheeks. "Tell me. Let’s solve it together."

"You’re bothering me," Marcella bit her lips.

Even when she was annoyed, the childish smile on his face calmed her down. It was like going to the beach on a hot summer day. The sand was scorching hot and yet when the waves hit the feet, the hotness would go away. His smile was like the soothing cool waves.

"Ask me to kiss you again, Marcella..." he said. He figured that it was one among the many things that annoyed her at that moment.

"Why? Cindy didn’t kiss you today?" Marcella glared at him. She did not like that he was dangling the kiss like some price she has to win. It was never a joking matter for her but for him, it appears that it’s nothing.

She was hurt.

He was surprised for a moment and she used that chance to push him away. She ran out of the alleyway. But she was yanked back inside rather forcefully.

Her back hit the dirty wall; before she knew it, he pressed on her. His eyes were on her level and his leg was between her knees. Her hands were pinned together above her head.

"What did you say?" Tony asked.

Marcella was surprised to see Tony holding this awful expression on his face.

"Who are you?" she mumbled. She felt lost.

Was Sweet Baby Tony ever real?
