Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 49: The Warning
Chapter 49: The Warning
Tony decided to leave. He didn’t want to be found arguing by the road with another woman. Cindy didn’t look like she was fine but he didn’t care. She has to deal with her delusions herself.
"All for that slut? She sleeps with whomever she likes, you know. You married that sort of woman and are throwing ME away?" Cindy asked.
Tony fisted his hands and almost turned to punch Cindy in the face. He had to remind himself that he can’t be seen punching a woman in the middle of the street.
He turned and faced Cindy although he despised the sight of her. "Explain," he said, his voice turning deep baritone. There was no expression on his face and yet even the air around him had turned cold inducing fear in Cindy’s heart.
"Explain how she’s a slut," he asked, still holding his patience that was on the brink of extinction.
"You don’t know?" Cindy raised her brow. Her eyes were crazily large, her reddened lips curved up, and her nose flared out of excitement. She rushed to him like how a hungry raccoon would leap toward a filled-up trash can.
"You saw how she jumped to go to lunch with Louis Fletcher because he is richer than you. She doesn’t care she is married. How would she? She’s her father’s daughter. She slept with a guy when she was barely eighteen and refused to marry him. After that, you know, she had a boyfriend who left her because~"
"That’s enough, Cindy," Tony stopped her.
She had to bring up "that" issue and call her a slut for that.
"It hurts, doesn’t it, Tony?" Cindy scoffed. "That’s the kind of woman you married."
Tony clenched his jaws and the gentleness reaming on his face disappeared into the ether. He looked like a scowling bear ready to tear off the flesh of the one in front of him.
"I’ll let you go this time for old time’s sake, Cindy. However, I would advise you to keep your thoughts about my wife to yourself. Don’t cross me."
Tony walked away with a warning he meant with every fiber of his being.
Who calls who a slut?
He already had an idea that Cindy and Marcella don’t get along. It was fine as long as some issues here and there in the workplace. He also knew Cindy was in danger of losing her job more than Marcella ever will be. He ignored it.
But Cindy calling Marcella a slut was uncalled for. If she took heed to his warning, it will be fine. If not, she will find out what raining hellfire feels like.
He will not spare anyone who tries to hurt Marcella. Never.
He crossed the road and went to the diner Marcella went to. Who cares what intention Louis has toward her? He is her husband. He will take advantage of that fact. He did not get her easily. He had to wait for ages. He was not willing to lose her for anything.
Louis and everyone else should know that he is her husband.
He entered the diner and to his surprise, Marcella was not there. Only her friend was at the table with Louis.
"Excuse me, Miss. May I ask you where my wife went?" he asked Gloria. Louis looked at him with his mouth ajar.
Gloria smiled with confusion. "I’m sorry, Mister. I don’t know who you are~"
"Marcella. She came with you. Where did she go?" Tony asked.
"Wife?" Gloria asked as that seemed to be the most glaring thing for her. "You are handsome, Mister. But the Marcella I know does not have a husband," she chuckled. "I wouldn’t mind though if she was married to you. Although, how sound is your mind?"
"Where is she?" Tony turned his attention toward Louis. He saw the smile on Gloria’s face that resembled the old aunties in his neighborhood. Usually, that smile would be followed by pinching his cheeks and saying things that would annoy him to the ends of the earth. He didn’t want to deal with Gloria anymore.
"Marcella left saying she had a personal emergency. If you were just five minutes earlier, you could have caught her," Louis answered.
"Thanks," Tony held out his hand for a shake.
"No problem," Louis shook Tony’s hand. "Congratulations on your wedding."
"Thanks," Tony smiled and turned to leave.
"Marcella is married?" Gloria shouted forgetting that she was in the presence of her boss. "To him?"
"He is Antony Crawford. Heard of him?" Louis asked.
"He’s Tony Crawford? The devious guy from the congressman’s office? He’s too handsome for a dangerous guy. Marcella married HIM?" Gloria shouted. "Why did she not tell me? I’m going to kill her when I see her!"
Louis chuckled. "It appears that Mrs. Butler is yet to learn more about her friend..."
Tony smiled as he closed the door of the diner. It appeared that Louis didn’t have any bad intentions toward Marcella. Maybe he just wanted to have lunch with her. It’s fine.
As he got relaxed, he realized that he could have called for her or followed her to the diner and presented himself to her rather than hiding from her view. Even if he did not feel great seeing her with Louis, he could have talked to her about it.
They he wouldn’t have ruined his mood. Also, he would have avoided Cindy.
He no longer needs to be her shadow. He can openly stand beside her and introduce himself as her husband.
Thinking of that, his lips curved to a sweet smile.
But where did she go? What emergency did she face?
He walked to her building. He wondered if she said that just to dump Louis, or if she said the truth. With her passive-aggressive trait, nothing she says or does could be taken at face value. It was the reason he loved watching her face. Her words never reveal her heart. Her eyes, however, could never conceal her heart.
Where are you, little bird? Let me see your face...
