Chapter 220: Anything For Her

"Are you comfortable?" Tony asked gently wiping the perspiration off her face.

After a long time, he had the opportunity to be alone with her and he used it to his heart’s content. He had some misgivings in his heart about her and after seeing her love-filled glance the whole time, his heart was light.

"I am..." Marcella let out a deep breath. Her eyebrows were relaxed and her entire body was relaxed as she was content. "Not the baby though..." she rubbed her belly.

Tony rolled to the side and had a look at her belly. He could see the baby twisting and turning inside her.

"Does it hurt?" he asked. It looked like it would hurt. "Hey!" he scolded the baby. "Stay still. Don’t hurt your mother!"

Marcella could only chuckle. "We wouldn’t want him to stay still. Healthy babies should move around."

Tony was not impressed. He placed his hand over her belly right where the baby’s foot was. The baby didn’t stop kicking. Maybe he felt his father, he kicked some more.

Marcella observed Tony. He pressed her belly trying to "contain" the already contained baby. After a while, he gave up.

"He’s going to be a troublesome one," he said.

Marcella rolled to her side with a grunt. Tony patted her back. "Are you okay?" he asked seeing the frown line between her eyes.

"I’m feeling..." she took in a deep breath. "The doctors advised me to sleep on my side. It does not feel good when I lie on my back..."

Tony gently rubbed her chest until she composed herself.

"Do you know? You are with me at the right time I want you near. I wasn’t feeling much sick or anything earlier and I would have missed you terribly if you were not near me now..."

Tony held her cheek. She was stretching her arm out and he shamelessly lay on her arm. The smile on her face permitted him to stay there.

He leaned forward and kissed her lips. She was saying that from the heart. He was feeling stupid the past few days thinking he had abandoned her and now he was sure that she truly was okay.

"If I could, I would stay with you 24/7," he said. He truly would.

"Maybe when we are old..." Marcella said. "Rather than now, I would want your company more when we are old."

"Really?" Tony raised his brows. Wouldn’t the opposite be true? They could do a lot of fun stuff when they’re young. What can they do when they’re old?

"I hear these stories from Mary and... You’ve seen how my parents were as they got older, right? Didn’t they seem closer than ever as they age?" she asked.

"That’s true..." Tony agreed. "They had that friendship that kept them closer as they aged." He kissed her shoulder. He couldn’t stop there and his kisses trailed along her neck.

"We should not lose the affection we have for each other. This..." she placed her finger on his lips and he licked it. She stuck out her tongue and kicked his lips, his warm breath tickling his face.

Tony pushed himself forward to deepen the kiss but she pulled back with a smirk.

"This passion will lessen and eventually die out as we age. Even then, I want you with me. By then, we would have gone through a lot and wouldn’t it be amazing if we still could bear each other..." she chuckled.

"We will. I can never get tired of you," Tony said with conviction. "I will never forget how much I had struggled to finally get you..."

"You still think about the past?" she asked.

She thought after being married for this long, he would have gotten used to her and one day in the future he would take her for granted.

"Always," Tony said.

Marcella leaned and kissed him. "I’m yours, Tony, always and forever."

"And I am yours. Yours alone." Tony gently touched her lips with his thumbs.

"I do not doubt that," she said. She was sure about that. Her husband would never betray her.

"Now is the time to work hard, Tony..." Marcella added. She wanted to tell him that. The past few days, he’d been sulking around and she didn’t like to see him that way.

"Never feel bad for working hard. I know you are doing it for us. Never feel guilty about that..." She held his hand and placed it on her chest. "I am here, right where you can reach out. I will be here whenever you want me. So, never once think that you are leaving me behind. I am always right by your side. You made sure of it."

Tony smiled. When they got married, she was the one with little confidence and he had to use words to build her up. Now, it became her role.

"We are in this together," he said.

"Yes, we are," Marcella nodded. "Both of us should not forget that. We always have our old days to be together for enough time to brew contempt," she chuckled.

Tony kissed her. "That won’t be us. We will be the harmonious couples we often see on the road, walking hand in hand even when all their hair has turned grey." He wished for that to be true.

In a way, he got her point. When they get old, which inevitably would happen as it is the natural progression, they can’t stay together unless they have a friendly relationship. Also, when they get old, he will be retired, and then...

His lips curved thinking of that possibility. A peaceful life by her side...

"I love you, Birdie..." he said, hugging her. "Tonight was amazing. Talking to you like this... I love this... I love talking to you."

Marcella smiled. "Shall we leave now? It’s getting late and Joey might wake up in the middle of the night missing us."

"No," Tony insisted. "Tonight, there is just us. No one else."

Marcella tried to speak, but he kissed her to silence. "You are tired. Sleep..." he blew on her face. His lips curved seeing her eyes drooping to a close. She worked a lot. She needed a good rest after working hard for so long.

He wanted to make this a tradition for them—staying in a hotel for a night. With a toddler and the baby in tow, they probably won’t have much time for themselves in the future.

One night every six months along with a date night might do them good. They can talk like this. This sure would be needed for their relationship to stand the test of time.
