Chapter 201: Peaceful Days
Tony’s cousin then brought them to his house. The elders in the town were glad to meet the family of Robert Crawford.
He did well for himself!
Everyone said that at least once. Some of Tony’s grandfather’s relatives who knew him were still alive, and they hugged little Joey to their chest closely.
Tony was touched. His grandfather would have been this happy to meet his great-grandson.
They stayed in the town for a couple of days. Tony sometimes wondered about her insistence on meeting the people. She loved traveling back home too. She insisted that she loved it, and he could see she was telling the truth.
She loved taking long walks and could form a great bond with almost anyone. Especially unruly kids loved listening to her. She had a natural nurturing quality to her that made them submit to her.
Tony walked with her. He loved watching that charming side of her. She was great at mingling with people and accepting their culture. Her grasp of language and accents was beyond his comprehension. She caught up with the accent much better than he who was used to hearing his grandmother’s accent she caught from his grandfather.
After that, they hopped on a train and moved from one country to another in Europe. They couldn’t stay in each city for more than two days and only visited the popular tourist spots.
Marcella noted down certain cities in her diary. She told him that she wanted to visit those cities for more days in the future. He agreed.
Tony was more than happy to see her walk with a skip to her step. She was all smiles, and with the camera around her neck, she took pictures of everything and anything that piqued her interest. She was even amazed by the ants and butterflies there as they were European insects.
That was probably the first time he saw the childish side of her. She was happy and she showed it every night on the bed. He could feel the intimacy grow as the days passed. The "calendar" she followed back home, was never utilized. She was enjoying their time together.
Language was not mostly a problem for them, mainly for Marcella. She spoke the romance languages well and that helped them greatly. She also spoke a little Arabic and Russian. He only learned during this trip that she spoke flawless Latin.
Just who was she? He was amazed.
Tony knew he had made the best decision of his life by being with her. He found her to be a great support for him.
In Paris, they walked along the cobblestone paths, amazed by everything around; the food was spectacular. They stayed for an extra couple of days there as Marcella ended up having her periods. He thought she would be bothered by it like she did the past few months, but she was in high spirits. Since she loved the food there, he was the one who insisted that they stay there for a couple of days more.
They thought bringing Joey around for such a trip would be hard but he was the darling in the whole trip. They were amazed by how behaved Joey was. He was naughty and they had to keep an eye on him all the time as he loved to wander off, but other than that, he was used to the changes in the climate and the food. He didn’t give them any stress.
Overall, the entire trip was much better than what they expected it would be. When they reached Italy, they were closer than ever as a family. Along with the roles and roles of films and the bags of clothes they bought, their heart was filled with joy and happiness.
They were in contact with her uncle’s family. They wanted to visit Rome before going to the wedding. They informed Dante DeAngelo of their plans. Uncle Dante wanted to send someone to Rome to greet them but Marcella politely refused. She didn’t need that much of an elaborate welcome. But Uncle Dante insisted that he must take care of her when she was in their country.
In the end, they had Marcella’s third cousin as their tour guide as they traveled around Rome and on their way to her father’s hometown Vinci, they visited Florence too. The magnificence of the palaces and cathedrals all over the country took them to another plane.
There was something different when they were surrounded by beauty and splendor. It lifted their spirit making them forget everything else.
When they reached Vinci, they were given the royal welcome. Marcella was a little embarrassed when her big family waited for her at the town entrance. Tony could only chuckle.
"They love you very much," he whispered in her ears.
She looked at him somberly. "This is the respect for my dad," she said.
Tony had to agree. The DeAngelo family was not a rich family by any means. Only after Don DeAngelo made big, he helped his family back home. In a way, they owe everything they own to Don DeAngelo. They should be grateful.
Dante DeAngelo welcomed her with a hug. He gave Joey a gold chain even before they stepped inside their house.
Marcella saw how preciously her uncle was holding Joey. That was proof enough for her. Uncle still loved her father that much.
They were given one of the biggest guest rooms in the house for their stay. Marcella was surprised. She thought the guests would arrange a stay in a hotel. But it was more personal and caring to host them in their home.
Granted, her uncle’s house was built on acres of land and they had a lot of rooms to spare. Still, he hired extra help to take care of the guests in his house. She appreciated that greatly.
Marcella had bought a lot of gifts for all of her hundred cousins. She didn’t count properly but she sure had somewhere around a hundred cousins. Most of them were second and third cousins, but seeing the big family gathering, she was amazed.
She understood why her father loved to host a lot of people in their house. He loved the noise of people around. It must be because he grew up in a big family like this.
The bride was curious about her wedding gift and since Marcella insisted on giving the gift on the wedding day, it caused a commotion. Her cousins made it a game to find out what her gift was before the wedding.
Tony took it as a challenge. She didn’t know Tony was that competitive till then. He went all out to hide the gift.
Marcella thought that it would be hard for Tony to mingle with her large family but he was taken in with love by everyone. Tony felt included.
After facing a lot of troubles and stress for a long amount of time, being there gave Marcella the peace she sorely missed.
