Chapter 176: Caught Beast
Chapter 176: Caught Beast
Marcella’s heart sank to her stomach seeing the little red shoe on the ground. She didn’t want to imagine what was going on there. She held her gun closer to her chest and her hands shook out of fear.
Picking up Joey, she walked back to the slide. She saw Henry’s men noticing her getting stressed and rushing inside the park. Marcella could wait but she didn’t want to. The little red shoe on the ground gave her goosebumps.
What was happening to the little girl stuck in the slide?
"Hello? Who is in there?" she gave a warning. She couldn’t think straight.
Was that a kidnapping attempt or something more nefarious?
She couldn’t stop. What if that girl’s life was in danger? She didn’t want to wait.
"Stop!"
A dreadful deep voice echoed from the little tunnel inside the tower. Marcella’s heart squeezed in pain.
Oh, please be safe, little girl...
"Stop! Or I will slash her little throat!"
Marcella took the final step. She could now see inside. The little girl was in an awful state. Her clothes were messed up and her face was red with all the crying. She was wearing a maroon dress and Marcella couldn’t see if she was hurt.
Marcella let Joey down after making sure that there was only one guy in there.
"Joey, run," she pushed the little boy out to the men running at her. She didn’t want to put Joey in danger.
"Will you?" With a smirk, she pointed the gun at that man.
Man? Should she call him a man?
The little girl started to sob. She didn’t look older than nine. "Mr. Rourke said he’ll give me candy... I’m scared...I’m scared... I want to go to my mommy... please, help me..."
Marcella’s emotions went haywire hearing the meek call of that little girl. She couldn’t control herself and began to shake. She was never in such a position. The abysmal cry of a little girl was too much burden for her to bear.
She wanted to cry, she wanted to shout, she was scared, but more than everything, she was mad.
What kind of monster would do this to a little girl? How could such a thing happen among humans? What is going on?
"Shut up!" He shouted. He was kneeling and his belly covered half of his thigh. Light glared on the top of his head although he had desperately tried to cover his baldness with the leftover thin strips of hair. His glasses were twisted and hanging by the tip of his nose.
He glared his teeth like a cornered bear. Perspiration rolled down his face and his eyes were unfocused. He had become a danger.
The little girl must have put up a fight. She saw scratch marks on his face. Marcella could only hope that the girl was untouched by that beast. What did that poor child do wrong to get into the hands of such a beast?
Marcella’s eyes clouded.
"Let the girl go!" Marcella said.
By now, Henry’s men had reached the slide. Since she was taking care of this side, the men sneaked through the other side. That beast of a man didn’t notice the others as he was focusing on Marcella.
"Back off!" he shouted.
Marcella saw a thin line of red forming on the girl’s neck. A stream of red cascaded down her neck and wetted her embroidered sweater.
He was a cornered beast—dangerous!
Marcella nodded at the men who came to her aide. They hid.
Marcella complied with that fat man. "I’m stepping back," she placed her gun down and took a step back. "Let the child go."
The fat man looked here and there, searching for an exit. Marcella looked at the girl.
"Jump," she mouthed.
The girl understood her but she was in the hold of that beastly man. She could only cry for her mommy.
"Shut up!" The fat man hit the little girl in the head. The girl went silent and her eyes closed as she slumped down.
"Let her go!" Marcella shouted.
The fat man grabbed the little girl by the hair. "You’re her!" he said. "You’re..."
"Who am I?" Marcella smirked.
She saw one of the men—Charlie, sneaking behind him with the gun in his hand.
"The mafia’s daughter," the fat man said.
The next moment, Charlie pressed his gun to his head. Startled, the fat man let go of the child. Marcella ran and caught the girl as she fell. She hugged the child and patted her cheek to see if she was alright.
"Wake up, little girl... Sweetie, wake up. You’re safe now..."
Marcella picked up her gun and fired at the sky. There was no faster way to call the people and the cops at the same time. The girl was out like a log. Marcella dreaded to check on the girl but hardened her heart. Her hands shook and her heart pounded.
"Thank God!" she sighed.
The tears she was holding back flowed freely down her cheeks.
The girl was unhurt except for some scratches here and there!
She looked at Joey. Joey invertedly saved this little girl today. She hugged the girl close to her chest. She heard a scuffle above. A few moments later, the knife the fat man was holding fell.
"Are you okay, Charlie?" Marcella asked. By now a crowd was gathering around the park. Seeing the girl on Marcella’s lap, they rushed in.
"I’m fine, Bambie. The girl...?" Charlie stuck his head out.
"She’s..." Marcella shook her head.
"Fat f*ck!" Charlie kneed the fat man and he grunted in pain.
"He’s the elementary school coach," said Charlie.
"He’s a teacher?" Marcella scoffed.
By then, others had reached Marcella.
"That’s Bev’s daughter!" One of the women said.
"Inform her parents," Marcella said.
The others got the child from Marcella’s hand and Marcella stood up. She got Joey as Joey was uncomfortable with the large crowd around him.
"I did nothing. She wanted to play in the slide!" The fat man shouted.
"Like hell you did!" Charlie hit him in the bald head.
"It’s the truth. Everyone knows me! The mafia people are trying to blackmail me. Trust me. I did not hurt Mellissa. Ask her!" he shouted.
There was a murmur among the crowd. Marcella could only sigh. After getting caught red-handed, this wastrel was trying to blame others to hide what he did.
What a scum!
