Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 177: Cannot Take The Easy Route
Chapter 177: Cannot Take The Easy Route
Some women there said that Mr. Rourke was a respectable man in society and this must be a misunderstanding. Others trusted that Marcella wouldn’t judge someone poorly.
Charlie pushed the fat man down and he fell on his knees. His bones cracked because of the fall and he screamed in pain.
The little girl woke up. Everyone wanted to hear her words. When the child tearfully told them what happened and how Marcella had saved her, the crowd went wild.
Charlie kicked him on the spine and the fat man sobbed. "I did nothing wrong. I don’t know why she is lying..."
With snot dripping down his face, he looked at the child. "Why are you lying?" The little girl rolled into a ball and hugged her knees in fear. He continued, "I told you lying~ Ahhh!" he shouted as Charlie kicked him in the back again.
The situation got out of hand as the ladies noticed him trying to intimidate the child. Marcella learned from the women that the girl’s father had passed away from an illness and her mother was raising her alone. The child would be alone after school until her mother’s return and that fat pig had tried to exploit the miserable situation of the child for his abominable desire.
The fat man was on his knees crying and pleading that he was not that type of guy and there was a misunderstanding. Within a few minutes, a woman came plowing through the crowd. She was cursing and blaming everyone else for treating her husband like a sinner when he did nothing wrong.
Mrs. Rourke raised her hand to hit Marcella too and she blocked her. "Stay out of this, Mrs. Rourke."
But that lady had a terrible mouth only to be rivaled by her terrible temper. She blamed everyone except her husband. "I know the district attorney and I will arrest every one of you! I am going to file a defamation suit against you! Who gave you all permission to hurt my husband?"
The woman went on. Everyone tried to reason with the woman but she was not listening.
"Shut the f*ck up!" Marcella slapped the woman hard.
The little girl was still there. The cops hadn’t arrived yet and it made Marcella wonder if the wife had already called the DA and that was the reason the cops didn’t arrive.
She was mad.
Seriously, why do people want to go against her, especially when they are in the wrong? Do they not know who she is?
Marcella’s eyes ended up on the fat man who was silent through everything. He had a smirk hanging at the corner of his lips. Till now, he hadn’t admitted to anything. He played the innocent victim till now. He knew the case against him was rather weak.
There was no valid proof against him. Marcella didn’t see anything happen. He could easily say that he panicked and placed the knife on her neck because he feared that he would get misunderstood.
Except for the account of the little girl, there was nothing. It was the word of a "respectful" teacher against a little girl who had no connections. Marcella knew how this would play out if she didn’t interfere.
And even if this guy was charged, what would happen?
Her eyes ended up on the little girl who was shivering out of fright. She was traumatized. As if this ordeal was not enough, when the case gets filed, the child will be put through torture by asking her questions. She was not even ten yet. What would she do? How would she answer? If her answers were not "enough" this beast would be set free only to exploit other unassuming little buds.
Marcella cocked her gun and pointed it at the fat man kneeling on the ground. The wife was shell-shocked. She probably was not slapped on the face in her entire life and she stumbled as she kneeled on the ground.
The crowd around said this and that. Marcella couldn’t hear anything. All she could see was the traumatized little child and the smirk on that pig’s face.
She wanted to kill him. It would make everything easier. The little girl could move on knowing that the monster that attacked her was no more. She would be spared the tedious task of going through the court procedures; she could focus on healing herself. Every other little child in the area would be safe now that the monster was gone.
There were only plus sides to killing the pig. It irked her to breathe the same air breathed by monsters like this. She’d breathe easily knowing there was one less monster roaming the earth.
It was not hard at all. All it takes is a single bullet and everyone can have a happy ending.
She once again could see her father’s perspective. Sometimes, death is the best thing that could happen. The death of one person would give peace to many. Why would she forgo that peace?
One bullet doesn’t cost anything. If he was incarcerated, he would be paid by the taxpayer’s money. Wouldn’t it be a waste to feed a pig using people’s hard-earned money?
Marcella’s heart pounded. The fat man was still smirking as if he didn’t think she would kill him. Marcella’s fingers curled around the trigger. She couldn’t find one reason to let him live.
She almost pulled the trigger. She had decided on it.
Until...
"Mommy..."
The soft voice of Joey pulled her heartstrings. Her hand holding the gun shook. She bowed her head and hugged the baby closer.
How did I forget?
She had promised herself that she would not turn into her father. Yes, her father did what he thought was right. Yes, killing was the easy way out most times. Yes, she wouldn’t even face the consequences even if she pulled the trigger.
But she cannot lose her conviction. She cannot break her promise. She will not take a life no matter how vile that person might be!
She lowered the gun.
She felt guilty to look at the little girl. She had a rough time ahead of her. But she will have to brave through. The system might seem unfair but they will have to follow it. Maybe, they can find a way to refine the system.
