Chapter 175: A Shock At The Park

Marcella had taken Joey with her. She wanted to have a suit for the little man too. It would be cute for father and son to dress the same. It would make a cute family picture for the Christmas card.

Tailor Caruso was exhilarated to see Joey. Her father’s associates always showed their joy to see Joey. Most of them said that Joey took after her father. She hoped that would be the case although she didn’t see the resemblance yet. Joey looked more like Tony and Andrew than like her father.

Marcella chose the fabric as the measurements for little Joey were taken. Joey was not at all interested in standing at a place and wanted to wander off. The entire staff had to serve him left and right to have his measurements.

None of them complained. Joey was a cute little boy. Why would anyone complain?

Caruso asked her when she was planning on having kids. He suggested Joey would need a brother to play with. Marcella laughed it off. He was not the first person to suggest it.

Lately, wherever she went, people were asking her the same question. The handful of people who knew Joey was adopted would ask her when she was going to have her own kids. Others wonder when she was planning on having their second child now that the eldest was over one year old.

Yeah, when?

When will she have kids? She didn’t know, all right? It was not like she was purposefully avoiding pregnancy! She was trying, all right? She couldn’t get pregnant!

She tried to be understanding of them as they only asked her that out of love, but she didn’t know how long she could maintain civility. She wanted to shout at them to mind their business.

It affected her. And yes, she talked to Tony about her visiting the doctor. He asked her to wait another year. He was not worried at all, or, to be frank, he tried to look unaffected. He told her that he wanted to have kids! She was to be blamed!

Marcella’s head hurt when she thought about everything. She thanked tailor Caruso as she wanted to leave. Caruso didn’t want to let Joey go. He stuffed a hundred-dollar bill in Joey’s pocket. Marcella told him that was not needed but she knew he won’t listen. Elders love to give money to little ones. They find joy in that.

"Mark Paulo came here a few days ago," Caruso said almost in a whisper.

"What did he want?" Marcella asked.

"Not sure," Caruso shrugged. "He was stressed and... He looked like he wanted to say something but... He asked about you and your husband. It was odd..." Caruso hugged her. "Stay away from Romano and Paulo for the time being, Bambina. Something’s wrong. Be careful, huh?" he patted Joey’s back.

"Yeah, be careful, Bambina. Your husband too." Caruso warned.

Marcella thanked him and left the shop. She couldn’t shake off the dread in her heart. Probably the calm they had was only the calm before the storm.

What storm was waiting for them?

On her way back, Marcella stopped at the park. It was cold and there was no one around at that time but Joey didn’t care. He wanted to ride that swing. When he wanted something, that was it. It had to be given.

Marcella parked the car farther away hoping Joey would get distracted by the ice cream truck. She noticed Henry’s men around. One was following her in a truck. She was glad for them. Even after she told Henry that she didn’t need 24/7 protection, he insisted. Randy’s men were there too. At times Randy’s men had aided her in exposing bad people as they reported the stories.

"Ice cream or swing?" she asked the little one. His brown eyes glistened with expectation. He looked at her as if she was his last hope and if she said ’no’ his hope would turn to ashes. He knew how to make her bow to his wishes.

"I’m not going to give you both. Either you can get the ice cream or you can play the swing. Make your choice," she said, hoping his sweet tooth would take control. Ever since he was introduced to ice creams, he had found heaven in them. Nothing could take his ice cream from him.

Little Joey was in a serious dilemma. But he knew his mama wouldn’t give him both no matter how much he threw tantrums. He pouted as he pondered.

Marcella watched the little boy do serious thoughts. She might not be able to refuse him most times but she had taught him to accept "no". Marcella smiled seeing the little boy pointing his little finger at the slide.

He is in the mood for a play today, then!

Picking him up, she crossed the door and entered the park. There was no one in the part as far as the eyes could see. Marcella was glad for the eyes watching over her. She let Joey down and he ran straight for the big castle slide. Tony brought him high up to the tower of the castle once and ever since then, Joey loved getting on that slide.

Marcella was wearing skirt and she didn’t want to bring him there that day.

"No, Joey... Here’s the kiddie slide," she caught him and directed him to the small slide. Joey was not very pleased but he ran to the smaller slide. Marcella followed the enthusiastic little boy. She didn’t know where he found the energy to run around. He would run around the entire day if he was allowed to.

"Ahhh!"

Marcella heard a soft little voice and she stopped. She heard the sound from the castle slide. Marcella walked to the slide to check on the sound. Just as she was walking closer, she heard a bang and a slight moan.

Kids!

Marcella rolled her eyes. It’s probably some kids who wanted "privacy". She walked toward the slide with a larger gait. This is a children’s park! They should get a room for their adult activities!

"Who’s there?" she asked getting closer to the slide.

Seeing his mother walking to the big slide, Joey ran to her. Marcella’s attention got diverted. "Joey, wait!" she turned to get him.

*Thud*

Marcella turned back hearing the sound. What she saw alerted her senses. She reached for her gun out of instinct

"Joey, wait for mommy!" She shouted.
