Chapter 163: Turning His Rage
Chapter 163: Turning His Rage
Marcella kissed his hair. She leaned on him as he leaned on her. Just like that, the heaviness in her heart was reduced.
"Why did you let Paul inside our house, Tony?" she asked. "Is it because he’s your father? Have you decided to accept~"
"No!" Tony held her shoulders and stared right into her eyes. "No way I am going to forgive that pig who killed my brother and your sister!"
Marcella sighed. "That’s what I figured," she held his cheek. He looked and sounded mad. She wanted to comfort him.
"Then why?" Tony knitted his brows. "Wait... is this all about letting him see Joey?" His eyes widened as he finally figured it out.
"Are you planning on killing him, Tony?" she asked what was bothering her. She tried to soften the blow when she talked about it but she had shot it up straight forward without knowing.
"I’m sorry," she held his hand as his face changed. She shouldn’t have implied he was a killer.
"For what? Thinking rightly about me?" Tony scoffed. The gentleness on his face had disappeared and she saw the beast he caged deep inside his heart leashed out.
"Tony..." she squeezed his hand. She didn’t want to see this side of him.
"I am going to do that. Didn’t you want to kill the one who killed your sister? That is him! I am not going to plot something. I know he will make it easy for me. I am just improving our defense. The day he raises his hand against you is the day he dies!"
The nerves on his forehead were popping and she could see the sharp contours of his jaws as he clenched his face.
"He is your father," she said.
Yes, there are a hundred reasons Tony could kill that man. But this one reason should be enough to stop him. It should be. He is her sweet baby.
Tony leaned closer to her face and still the anger on his face hadn’t dwindled. Maybe because she was not scared of the beast inside him, he showed it freely to her.
"No one knows that! Killing him wouldn’t affect me in any way or form. It would give me peace knowing that my wife and child are safe."
Marcella kneeled in front of him and hugged him. "I don’t care about what others know or don’t know, Tony. I care for you."
"Then you should let me! Why are you walking back on what you wanted, Birdie? You remember what he did to your sister. Did you forget?" Tony gripped her waist hard. "He killed the son he raised. His bastard has every right to kill him! I want my brother to rest in peace, Birdie. You will not stop me!"
Marcella pressed her lips. "I did not forget, Tony. I never will. I will neither forget nor forgive that man for taking Joey’s parents from him. I know what he did to my sister and your brother. I don’t care about him. I worry for you, Tony. My sweet baby Tony should not be engulfed in bitterness and want to kill his father."
"Ha!" Tony got out of her grip and looked at her. The rage on his face had multiplied. "Regretting~"
Marcella pressed his mouth shut with her hand. Whatever he was going to say next would most probably hurt them both. She didn’t want to let him say it.
"You asked me to be your angel, Tony. Do you remember? This is me, being your angel, trying to stop you from committing patricide. I don’t worry for the law or the swaying of tongues, Tony. I worry for your conscience. Can you live peacefully after knowingly killing your father?" she asked.
Tony held her hand and kissed her palm. He let out a deep breath. The rage on his face dissipated but he was still not smiling. "What will you do if I say that only killing him will give me peace?" he asked.
Marcella kissed his forehead. "Then you won’t be the man I fell in love with," she said. That would be the truth.
Tony was shocked. "Right under this tree, you were the one who asked me to kill the one who killed your sister! How can you change your mind?" he asked.
"Because I love you, Tony." Marcella cupped his cheeks. "Because I do not want to get emotionally detached from you anymore. I still hold resentment against you for letting my sister die. I wouldn’t be able to love a man who can kill his father, no matter what the reason is... I still want Paul Romano to die, Tony. I still want him to suffer like my sister did. But I don’t want you to be the executioner, Tony."
Tony got out of her hold and scooted back. Marcella poured a teacup full of wine and offered him. "Should I make a cocktail?" she asked as he gulped it all down.
"You’re cruel, DeAngelo," he said getting the teapot from her hand.
Marcella smirked. "I am Mrs. Crawford, Tony. Not your boss. I wouldn’t want you to get your hands dirty with your father’s~"
"Stop calling that man that. I despise that. He is not my father. I could never think of him as my father. I used to bear with him for the sake of my brother and now... I do not want to hear it from your mouth."
"Fine!" Marcella surrendered.
She gently massaged his leg as he drank straight from the teapot. He was in deep thought. Marcella was glad she saw his calmness return to him.
"Wait..." Tony placed the teapot down and leaned to her. "You were thinking about this for a week?" he asked.
"I was. I thought if you were doing something similar to what you did that day by putting Joey in harm’s way. But then I thought about it. We are family. You promised me that you would not let any harm befall our son. And so... I trust you, Tony."
Tony smiled. This time, she could see that it was from his heart. She was happy.
"You have a plan, don’t you?" he asked, his lips curved to a smirk. The sparkle in his eyes was a delight to look at.
