Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband -
Chapter 162: His Care
Chapter 162: His Care
Tony stood at a distance, watching her. She was sitting under the tree, sipping tea. It was odd seeing her drinking tea at this time but she looked so elegant as she sipped.
Little Joey was trying to walk around the tree. She was trying to feed him but he was trying to run away from her. She smiled a bit but Tony was not convinced. She was not right.
He wanted to join them. He decided to talk to her today, no matter what. That day when she said hurtful words, he said nothing. But today, he was not willing to just stand idly.
She had shown him what happiness was. He was not willing to lose it for any reason.
With a confident gait, he walked to the maple tree. Just as he expected, Marcella stood up picking up Joey, the moment she noticed him.
"Mary!!" he called and the nanny came running to the garden.
"Sir," she wiped her hands in her apron.
"Bring Joey inside and feed him," he pointed at Joey.
Marcella was not pleased. "It’s fine. I’ll take care of him. Mary is busy in the kitchen," she said not even looking at Tony.
"Mary!" Tony said without a change in his expression.
He knew his wife would try and escape. He was not willing to let her leave. She might not admit it but she made sure everyone knew that he was the man of the house. Yes, she was the lady of the house but at times like this, their people will listen to him and not her.
He didn’t want to take that authority lighter and he rarely used it. This probably was the first time he used it. The authority was not a mandate of age-old tradition. He didn’t consider it that way. It was the trust she had in him that let her submit to him.
Marcella glared at Tony as she was not pleased as Mary got Joey from her. He might corner her but she can leave. She turned to walk away but Tony held her arm.
"Birdie, please... I need to talk to you. Please..."
Tony tilted his head to the side and his eyes softened. He understood her anger. No one would be happy when they were forced to do something. But he knew she would understand.
They needed this. They are in a marriage. They should pull the cart together. When one of them didn’t feel like it, the other should try and fix the problem. Otherwise, it would not be good for the marriage.
Both of them wouldn’t want that.
Marcella’s anger reduced seeing Tony’s eyes. She was aware that she was the one in the wrong in this situation as she was trying to project her thoughts on him when he did nothing wrong. She was hurt seeing the hurt on his face.
"Fine," she nodded and walked to the blanket.
Tony followed her. He waited until she sat and sat opposite her. He wanted to see her face. It felt like an eternity before he saw her face. She looked to the side as the wind brushed over her face. Closing her eyes, she fixed her stray hair behind her ears.
Tony’s heart skipped a beat just like it did for the first time he started developing feelings for her. He can never be calm in her presence. He had to try hard to appear calm.
He picked up the teacup and the teapot.
"No! It’s...empty!" Marcella tried to get the teapot from his hand but failed.
Tony held the heavy teapot. Marcella bowed her head. He wondered what was wrong. Until he poured from the teapot.
"You have wine in the teapot?" Tony asked.
"Oh, shut up!" Marcella tried to get the teacup from his hand but Tony didn’t relent his grip.
Marcella turned her face. Tony drank the wine from the teacup. Marcella joined. As the autumn wind blew, both of them relished the wine as the rose-scented air caressed them.
"Is it about the baby thing?" Tony asked.
He pondered what might have made her mood sour but he couldn’t come up with anything other than this.
"I was not trying to be dismissive of your suffering. What I meant to say was that we didn’t have to worry about that. I didn’t want you to stress yourself..." He waited to see her reaction.
Marcella pressed her lips. "You were thinking about it all this time? I thought you didn’t care."
"How can I not care, Birdie? I too want to have lots of kids with you. But stressing about it won’t do anything. Let’s be happy. Let’s enjoy our time together. It will happen when it happens," he said.
"You were thinking about it all this time?" Marcella asked him.
It was not the main thing she was worrying about. But she was touched when he talked about it again. When he talked about it that day, he did sound a little dismissive. She felt ignored at that time.
"Why?" she asked.
She didn’t think he was trying to come up for a reason all this time. She thought that he was not even trying hard to have a conversation with her. When she left, he let her. She didn’t think he was worrying about her all this time.
"You care for me that much?" she asked.
He was a busy man. Why would he think about her? Wouldn’t it have been better for him to ignore her and wait until she comes to him herself?
She was touched.
"That much?" Tony raised his brows. "Honey, you have no idea how much I care for you. This past week, without talking to you, I couldn’t even..." his voice broke and he gulped.
Marcella scooted closer to him without knowing. She didn’t think he would get this emotional.
"You are my sunlight, Birdie... Without you, I am nothing..." he held her hand.
"That’s not true," Marcella said.
She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She couldn’t believe that she didn’t understand the extent of his love for her.
"But it is." Tony leaned on her shoulder. "You’ve become my everything, Birdie. If you’re not by my side, I feel lame."
