Chapter 138: Out of Control
Chapter 138: Out of Control
"I can see you are not your father, Bambi. I see it more and more clearly," Logan said.
Marcella looked at him. There wasn’t even a trace of admiration on his face. If he was someone who wanted the best for her and treated her as the daughter of someone he respected, he wouldn’t be looking at her with abhorrence.
THIS!!
This look was exactly why she didn’t want to stay with her father anymore. This look from others was why she left. It hurt.
No matter what she did or does, people from the past are going to look at her this way. She can give up and take on the mantle her father left. It wouldn’t be hard for her to take her father’s place. It wouldn’t be hard for her to reach the place her father did. Thanks to his name and his blood in her, she could do it within a year.
BUT!!!
She left that life for a reason. She respected her father more than anything. Still, she didn’t want to become her father. Her father didn’t want for her to turn out like him. Tony told her that much. She believed him.
Marcella wanted to bow her head in shame. Her habit of cowering when someone mentioned her father in a bad light for the past ten years forced her to bow. But she held her head high.
She will not bow down for who she was.
She decided to make it her habit to hold her head high. She is Tony’s wife. She didn’t do anything wrong. She tried to help others. Her plan was working. Even if her plan went wrong, she had Tony by her side. He would never blame her. He would blame her only if she gives up halfway.
Why should she bow out? She will fight till the end with her head held high.
"You asked me to do something for bringing the trust back on the cops in my community, Commissioner Logan," Marcella talked in a crisp voice that dripped confidence. "I, just in a single visit could understand why the community’s relationship with your department was terrible. It was not the fault of the community. It was because a drunk sheriff was beating up a woman-woman, no? How old are you, Debby?" Marcella asked Debby.
"I’ll turn twenty coming Spring," Debby answered.
"Nineteen!" Marcella scoffed. "Did you hear her, Commissioner? She’s nineteen! He was beating her up like a dog. Everyone had locked themselves in fearing what he might do to them. I saw him beating her up. My hands shake thinking of what he did to her! That... he did that for all to see and I can only imagine what tortures this poor girl faced behind shut doors! And you...commissioner Logan, want to talk about me. Me! As if..."
Logan turned his head not willing to look at them.
"Look at her, Commissioner! Look at this child’s face and tell me why people don’t like your men. Tell me why I should try to solve this quietly? Who are you worried about? Who called you? I do not believe for one second that you had no idea that the beast you left in control here was~"
"I am dealing him!" Logan shouted.
"Dealing him?" Marcella raised her voice. "You still haven’t filed Debby’s complaint. You still haven’t charged him. He’s there... in the comfort of a heated room while an entire town has gathered in the cold. There is no lack of witnesses. I, myself am a resident in this area and I am a witness. I can sign anywhere. I saw what happened. I’ll give my testimony to the judge. So will the others. We will do anything to make sure this girl doesn’t suffer anymore. Come on, Commissioner. Do the right thing here...Give us a reason to trust you..."
As she was talking, she heard a commotion out. She saw Logan had gone silent. She left him in his thoughts to take a peek out. She hoped the crowd hadn’t lost their patience.
It was snowing. It was not bad for now then Marcella worried for everyone. It won’t be good for their health if they stayed there for long. At the far end of the crowd where the commotion was heard, she saw the flashes of the photographers.
Someone important must have come, Marcella thought and observed closely. She couldn’t see that person clearly through the flashes but wearing a long coat he was slightly above everyone’s head.
Marcella rubbed her arms as the chill wind made her cold. She didn’t bring a thick coat with her as she was not planning on staying for this long. Her fingers were almost frozen after standing there for mere minutes. Just as she was about to turn, she noticed the hood of that man’s coat dropping.
Marcella’s lips curved as she immediately recognized her husband just with the silhouette of his hairstyle.
Finally, he’s here!
Seeing him there was enough to warm her up. She didn’t feel very cold anymore. Tony was talking to the many journalists that were throwing questions at him. She couldn’t hear what they were talking about but judging by the crowd’s reaction, Marcella could say that his presence was welcomed.
After answering a few of their questions, Tony turned. His eyes met with hers and Marcella waved her hand at him. The crowd parted, leaving him way and he walked to her. Only when he got closer did she notice her coat in his hand. He was holding her coat inside his coat so that it would be warm and not wet.
Ah, my man!
"It’s cold out!" Tony wrapped her with the warm coat. "What are you doing outside?"
Marcella just smiled. She was too happy to say anything.
"Let’s go in," Tony placed his hand on the small of her back and led her in.
Marcella stared at Tony. With no ripple in his face, he was walking in as if he owned this place. His confidence always mesmerized her. He was amazing!
Commissioner Logan audibly grunted seeing Tony there. "What are YOU doing here?" he asked.
"Yeah," Tony pulled up a chair. "What am I doing here? What do I have to do here?"
While speaking, he grabbed Marcella’s hand and helped her on the seat. He then stood behind her.
"What’s the need for me here?" Tony asked.
Logan sighed rubbing his forehead. Everything has gone out of control!
Tony works for the congressman of another district. This district’s congressman and the senator are from the same party. Both offices didn’t make a single effort to talk to the crowd after the situation got worse.
The presence of an important figure from the opposite party is going to ruffle a lot of feathers.
This is not going to go well!
