Chapter 139: Stupidly Mad
Chapter 139: Stupidly Mad
Marcella smiled covering her mouth. It was already worse for them with the national media here and with Tony here, there would be heads rolling.
She stood up and got Tony’s coat. His coat was dripping wet and she worried for the people standing outside. There are elders too and this temperature wouldn’t do them any good. She decided to have a look outside and talk to the elders to return home. They are already successful and there was no need for the elderly to suffer in the cold.
Debby looked very tired as if she would faint at any moment. She wondered if she should get her first aid and something to eat.
"Did you eat anything?" Tony asked just as she was about to eat.
"...Uh, yes... I ate lunch..." Marcella said. She was not in a position to eat, right? She was in a protest. She didn’t even remember drinking much water.
"Lunch?" Tony raised his brow. "There’s a sandwich in my coat pocket," he pointed at his coat.
Marcella nodded and searched his pockets. She found the sandwich and brought it to Debby. Her husband truly is an angel. He gave her just what she needed.
Debby shook her head. In her tired eyes Marcella saw fear and desperation. She wanted this to be over with. She couldn’t eat without this issue getting resolved.
"Try and eat this. I’ll get a doctor for you," Marcella held Debby’s hand. "My husband’s here, Debby. Trust me. It’s going to be okay."
Debby’s eyes watered. She spared a glance at Tony. Marcella smiled. "Be assured, Debby."
Debby trusted Marcella’s words and started eating. Her hands were shaking and Marcella rushed to get a cup of water for her.
Tony was not pleased with his wife’s charitable act. He didn’t bring the sandwich for that girl. He brought it for his wife. She’s staying hungry with the rest of them.
The smile on his face turned to a menacing frown as he looked at Logan. He was not going to blame his wife for being herself. He would blame everyone else for putting his wife in this situation.
"How are you going to proceed, Commissioner?" he asked with an unimpressed grunt to his tone.
Logan gulped as he sensed the aura around the bright guy who was in front of him earlier changing. But there was only a little he could do.
"There is not much I can do here, Mister~"
"Oh, really?" Tony chuckled but the mirth didn’t reach his eyes. He took a side glance at his wife offering water to the woman. He took in a deep breath.
"Look, man... If you don’t solve this now, my wife is going to stay here for the night with the others. I will have to care for our baby—which I am not very good at. I am already tired and I am going to wake up pissed and then... I’m just trying to have my wife on my bed tonight, man. Don’t you want to return to your home too? Just don’t make everything complicated..." he spoke in a relaxed tone.
Marcella heard what Tony said and her heart skipped a beat.
Have me on his bed tonight? How vulgar!
Although she thought it was vulgar and tried to glare at him, she couldn’t even pretend to be angry at him as her heart started pounding and her lips curved to a smile.
Tony and Logan started speaking in a hushed tone. Marcella only heard bits and pieces. Apparently, the sheriff was related to the senator and called Logan about this issue. The senator didn’t want any action to be taken against the sheriff.
Marcella didn’t know what Tony whispered in Logan’s ears. But five minutes after Tony talked to Logan, Logan asked the cops who were with him to put the sheriff on cuffs. They filed Debby’s statement and everything were taken care of according to the legal procedure.
Marcella was with Tony as he added the charges to be filed against the sheriff. He was a lawyer after all; he knew the law. More than fifteen charges were filed against the sheriff and the other officers too had five charges each.
Logan was not pleased but Marcella didn’t have time to look at him. She was staring at her husband with awe.
What a man!
Debby was happy and only when the charges were filed did, she accepted medical aid. They looked for Debby’s family and Marcella was told that Debby only had her father left and he was found drunk in the pub. Marcella could only sigh.
His daughter was going through hell each day thanks to his son-in-law and he didn’t do anything to help her. She was told that the sheriff "pays off" for his alcoholism and he ignored his daughter’s plight. Alchohol truly is the devil. She also got confirmed that the absence of strong family structure often leads to troubles. If Debby had a strong father, this situation wouldn’t have gotten this worse.
Is the government the one to blame? Or the police department is the only culprit here? Shouldn’t Debby’s father take some blame too?
Marcella assured Debby and gave her phone number. She asked Debby to call her if she needed anything. Debby was grateful. She couldn’t speak out of her overflowing emotions but Marcella could see that Debby was happy she got a support to lean on. It must have been hard for that girl growing up with no one to lean on. Marcella sympathized with her as she had an idea what that feels like.
Once again, she thanked her father in her heart. Her father would have never left her to suffer like this. She was the one who left him; he never abandoned her. He kept an eye on her even when he publicly disowned her.
Logan finished with his statement to the public. He was rehearsing it while Marcella heard another commotion outside. She took a peek and saw Aiden Fogarty there.
She scoffed. "What is he doing here now?"
Tony rubbed her back. He said nothing. His wife’s eyes told him everything he wanted to know. She despised that guy.
He looked through the window. Aiden was talking to the journalists and even though it was over the crowd was still there. The journalists too knew that the sheriff was getting charged but they were waiting for the official statement.
Maybe Aiden was questioned about it, he looked surprised. Of course, the journalists would think that the Senator’s Spokesperson would have more to say about this issue.
Tony smirked.
"What did he think would happen?" Marcella looked at Tony.
"He probably thought everything would wait for him," Tony held her cheek.
He thought the same when he tried to get Marcella back. He failed back then and now too.
"His boss is not going to be satisfied with him," Marcella smiled. "Oh, he looks mad," she laughed seeing Aiden walking toward them in a large stride.
Tony smiled seeing the happiness on her face. He stepped in front of her out of instinct. Aiden looked stupidly mad.
