Chapter 129: That Moment

"No! Stop!" Gloria blocked Beth who followed Marcella in.

"Why? It would be fun," Beth pouted cutely.

Gloria was stunned. Pretty women do have an advantage. If she, a woman, could get moved by beauty, how much would red-blooded men be?

"No," Gloria stood by her resolution and closed the door. She might have joked with Marcella but she was not going to intrude on a private moment between a couple.

Marcella cleared her throat. "Tony..." she called for him. Her heart was pounding out of excitement and her voice broke.

"Birdie..."

Although she couldn’t see his face, she could hear the happiness in his voice. She wanted to see his expression when he looked at her; she fought her instinct to look down.

He turned to face her. There was a smile on his face. She thought he would go to her and...say something, do something. But he stood there frozen.

Tony was nervous after Gloria came to tell him that Marcella wanted to see him before the party. She made it seem like it was something serious. For a moment, he was taken back to the day he was told that she had run away from home because she didn’t want to wedding. He had a drink or two to calm his nerves and remembered that they were married and she was in love with him.

When he heard her call his name, his heart jumped in glee. When he saw there standing with a veil though...

His heart skipped a beat. She dismissed his wish to see her in a veil pretty fast when he talked to her about it. He didn’t talk to her about it after that although he wanted to see her in a veil. He didn’t think that she would grant her wish.

And boy, did she look perfect! She was more beautiful than he’d ever seen her.

He could see her face vaguely; her eyes were on him. Those caramel eyes were the bedrock of his universe. Looking at them, he was flabbergasted.

It was just their wedding party; she kept on reminding him that. But why does it feel like...

His eyes clouded. He didn’t want to let her see him with tears but here he is...in tears as he saw how much she loves him and respects his wishes.

He looked down to wipe away his tears. For a fraction of a second, he saw Don DeAngelo standing beside her.

Don!

He immediately looked up but she was standing alone.

Ah...

Tony walked to her with a large gait. He didn’t care if he was crying or not. He wanted to lift the veil and look at his wife’s face. He felt like just now Don DeAngelo gave them his blessing. He was not someone who got moved but at that moment, he felt like the whole world had come together.

Marcella looked at him as he lifted the veil. There was a teardrop rolling down his cheek and she wiped it. It was weird to see him cry, but at this moment, it was heartwarming to see him getting emotional seeing her.

I married the right one!

She stood on her tiptoes and kissed his lips.

"Are you happy, Tony?" she asked.

"I am...Marcella, at this moment, I am the happiest man in the world!" he kissed her back.

Holding her waist, he bobbed while humming a song. Marcella danced with him. His tears dried up and he was grinning wildly. Who wouldn’t want to see their husband this happy? Seeing him happy, she was beyond satisfied.

"You are beautiful, Marcella," he kissed her forehead. "I can’t believe you are my wife..."

Marcella smiled and her eyes clouded. She didn’t think he could have said anything better than that right at that moment.

"I’m lucky to have you, Tony," she said leaning on his shoulder.

Tony kissed her head. Marcella savored the moment. She will not forget this moment for the rest of her life.

There was a knock at the door and Marcella sprung up.

"It’s time for the guests to arrive. I have to remove the veil. Go see if you have to greet anyone," she kissed his lips and tried to rush away.

"No, wait," Tony held her hand.

"I love you, Birdie," he said with a smile.

"I love you too, Sweet Baby," Marcella said.

Tony’s smile widened. "Don’t make me wait long, Birdie," he said.

Marcella waved her hand and rushed out of the room. Gloria was standing out with Beth. After quickly changing out of her veil, she joined Tony who was still in his dressing room. The organizer came and asked them out as the guests arrived and both of them entered the hall with her arms hooked to his.

Everyone clapped and welcomed them. The party started after they cut the cake. There were a lot of elites in attendance. Many of them were there for Tony and the rest were there for her, just out of curiosity.

Tony was with her the whole time, patting her back when she was a little nervous and topping up her drinks. They moved around the hall to greet everyone. The buffet food was a success and everyone appreciated it.

As they were making rounds around, they heard a commotion near the gates. Randy came and informed them that Andrew Mellon was there with Paul Romano.

"Do not let them in," Tony said.

Even Marcella thought that it was too risky to not allow someone powerful like Paul Romano inside their party, not to mention the fact that he was Tony’s father. But Tony’s eyes were decisive and he looked like he was not going to change his mind.

He looked so much more handsome with that decisive scowl on his face.

Both of them were sent away. John Emerson who was standing at the other corner, met eyes with Marcella. He looked like he wanted to ask something. But he was not approaching her and so Marcella let it pass.

They went to the dance area to have their dance. This was technically their first dance if it made sense. Marcella was once again surprised by Tony. He let her well in the dance. She didn’t step on his shoes even once.

Beth was the most popular spinster in the place. Men after men asked her for a dance and she didn’t refuse anyone and offered to dance with everyone who asked her.

Marcella and Tony were dancing closely to that slow song. "Randy found a scoop about a popular actress. Apparently, she is cheating with a married producer. Her career is going to end," Marcella told Tony.

Tony looked at Marcella. "You want her chance to go to your friend," he stated.

That is exactly what Marcella wanted. "She’s tired of casting couches," Marcella said. She wanted to help out her good friend achieve her goal.

Tony kissed her forehead and Marcella smiled.

He agreed!
