Chapter 128: A Surprise For Him
Chapter 128: A Surprise For Him
Marcella closed her eyes as the makeup artist applied her eyeliner. With her eyes closed, she took it all in.
It’s our wedding party!
Marcella was not very keen on hiring a makeup artist and hairstylist for the wedding party, but Stella insisted she did. Gloria went a step ahead and hired the best ones for her and Marcella had to accept it.
They arranged a big party hall where the wedding receptions of he wealthy takes place. It had separate rooms for the bride and the groom and also the groomsmen and bridesmaids. Since they didn’t have groomsmen and bridesmaids, those rooms were empty. The bride’s room was spacious and was decorated elegantly for the photoshoot. The scent of flowers filled the room and the ambience was relaxing.
Sitting there with others working on her, she did feel good and relaxed. If she was doing everything by herself, she would have been nervous and anxious. It is nice to have friends!
"How do I look?" Marcella stood up and turned to Gloria. Gloria was with her for the entire day supporting her. Marcella almost lost her mind when the catering company called her about some issues, but Gloria helped solve that issue easily with her thoughtfulness.
"You’re perfect, dear," Gloria hugged her. "I’m so happy to see you like this..."
Marcella smiled. "I should thank my maid of honor."
Gloria patted her chest proudly. "I am used to being the maid of honor for my cousins. I am experienced."
Marcella thanked her once more. Marcella looked at her hairdresser and nodded.
It is time!
The hairdresser brought the long veil hanging behind the door and pinned it on her hair.
"Are you going to wear the veil for the party?" Gloria asked. She was surprised as Marcella didn’t mention the veil to her.
"No, it’s just for him," Marcella winked.
She didn’t know why the conversation they had about the veil stuck in her mind. Tony appeared to be disappointed that she was not going to wear the veil. She still thought it would be tacky to wear the veil for the wedding party, but she wanted to surprise Tony and give him what he wanted.
Through the veil, Marcella looked at herself in the mirror once more. A day where she wears a white dress and a veil did come.
But she didn’t have her family around her. Her mother should be here. Her sister should be here. Her father should be holding her hand and walk her out of here, but he’s not here either.
Bowing her head, she pressed her lips to stop herself from crying. Her lips trembled.
"Mars..." Gloria hugged her. "Are you missing your family?"
Marcella hugged her back. "Yes..."
"It’s okay..." Gloria patted her back. "They are watching down on you. They are happy to see you happy. Don’t you think so?"
Marcella nodded. Yes, her family would be happy to see her. Her father definitely would have given his blessings for the marriage and he is currently looking down at her with great pleasure.
She need not feel down. She should be happy. Her family is with her in spirit. They are living in her heart.
After taking some photographs, Marcella took a deep breath.
"Stay here," Marcella patted Gloria with a cheeky smile. "I’ll be back in a moment." She wanted to meet her husband.
"Can’t I take a peek?" Gloria asked with a goofy smile.
"No!" Marcella giggled. "And Beth would be here any minute. Keep her company until I return." Bethany has become a close friend of hers in recent days and Marcella invited her to the wedding party too.
Gloria nodded but her eyes lost the luster they had a moment ago.
"What’s with that look? You’ll like her! She’s innocent and lovely," Marcella held Gloria’s hand and spoke.
"I am a grown woman. I can handle it. Go! Surprise your husband. Don’t ruin your makeup too much," Gloria joked.
Marcella pushed her aside.
"No, wait," Gloria stopped her from leaving. "I’ll make sure he’s alone in his room."
Marcella found that would be a good idea and agreed. Gloria closed the bride’s room behind her and walked to the groom’s room. As she expected, there was a crowd in front of that room. The door was open and it appeared that there were many fawning brownnosers wanting to meet him.
Gloria looked around for her husband. As expected, he was at the open bar sipping on alcohol and she dragged him with her to help clear the crows. David Butler might have been tipsy already, but he was an expert in crowd management. Within a moment, he managed to disperse the crowd.
Gloria’s eyes ended up on the only woman in the crowd. Her emerald green dress which was a little risqué for a wedding matched her eyes and contrasted her shoulder-length auburn hair. Her skin was clear like porcelain and she had the perfect hourglass figure.
While others left, that woman tried to get inside the room. She even behaved rashly with David as he blocked her. Gloria didn’t find that woman all that attractive anymore. No one insults her dearest Boo Bear.
"Miss, who is that you need?" Gloria interrupted that woman as she tried to slip in.
"I..." Seeing Gloria, that woman calmed down a bit. "I am the bride’s friend, Beth. I... You are..."
"Ah, you must be Beth. Marcella talked a lot about you," Gloria smiled. "This is the groom’s room. The bride’s room is the room over there..."
Beth was embarrassed by her mistake and walked to the bride’s room. Gloria stood and watched Beth for a few seconds. David noticed his wife staring and offered her a glass of champagne.
"She is beautiful, isn’t she?" Gloria said.
David looked at Beth. Beth probably realizing the couple’s stare, looked back and waved at them with a smile. She then awkwardly turned and walked inside Marcella’s room.
"Belladonna..." David said.
Gloria glared at her husband. Yeah, that woman is beautiful. That doesn’t mean her husband can call her "Belladonna".
"Belladonna?" Gloria raised her brows as David was about to make a beeline for the bar again.
"Eyes never lie, Hon..." David leaned and kissed Gloria. "Call it a cop’s instinct."
Gloria furrowed her brows. "What do you~"
As she was speaking, Tony came out of the room.
"Where are you going?" Gloria stopped him. "Wait here..."
Tony was going to Marcella’s room and Gloria convinced him to stay in his room and wait for the surprise. After convincing him to stand looking at the wall, Gloria came out of the room. Marcella was standing by the door of her room and Gloria gave the signal.
Marcella walked toward the groom’s room. Beth was whispering something in her ear, but nothing got registered in her brain. Her mind was filled with thoughts of her husband.
She smiled seeing the tall man standing by the window staring at the wall. Even his shadow was handsome.
She stepped inside the room.
