Flash Marriage: Shrewd Wife, Devious Husband
Chapter 127: Adorable Drunk

Chapter 127: Adorable Drunk

"You look happy," Tony held Marcella’s hand on their ride back to their home.

"I had a good time! I made some new friends," Marcella smiled.

Although she knew she needed to attend the party, she hesitated as she was not very good at large gatherings. She tried to stay as a wallflower, but people came to her to talk to her and after that, she had a pretty good time.

"Oh? That’s nice to know," Tony said brushing off the air on her cheek. He rolled down the window of the taxi for her to get some fresh air. She was flushed.

"I have made new friends, Tony," she said.

"You mentioned," Tony leaned to her face. She reeked of alcohol and the blush on her cheeks was adorable. She was not drunk when he got there but the moment, she saw him enter, she let loose and started drinking with said "friends" of hers.

"Bethany Jane is a poor woman, Tony... I felt so bad for her... At least Monica has a supportive family! It’s a good thing Beth escaped from her abusive husband..." Marcella leaned on his shoulders.

Tony sighed. Was that sob story even real? Isn’t she one of those women who leave their home in the hopes of getting into Hollywood?

"I talked to him... that rich bald guy... I told him..." Marcella pointed her finger at Tony but she was pointing somewhere else. She was wasted. Tony held her hand.

"What did you tell him?"

"I told him to make her a star! She is my friend. She should be a star!"

"Yes, she should," Tony patted her shoulder. He didn’t mind her doing that. If that woman is talented enough, she will make it in Hollywood. Otherwise, no number of recommendations would do anything.

"Who was she with?" Tony asked. It was an invite-only party. A wannabe actress wouldn’t have access there unless she was someone else’s plus one.

Marcella had no answers. "She’s a nice woman, Tony," Marcella smiled goofily. "She has a lot of horses in her property back home and she told me a lot of stories..."

Tony didn’t have a good feeling about that woman. But if she makes Marcella happy, he can allow their "friendship" to continue as long as it takes. He had no hopes that Bethany would continue her friendship after she found no need for Marcella’s friendship.

"Tony, we should get horses, Tony... I love horses. We should get a pony for Joey and a beautiful black horse for me... I want to ride in the wild, Tony..." she spread her hands.

Tony held her hand and kissed it. "Okay," he said. It’s no use talking to her when she is drunk. He’ll talk to her in the morning. They cannot raise ponies and horses on their property.

"All men are pigs, Tony," she said leaning on his chest.

Tony pressed his lips. That’s an odd sentence he hears from her. She grew up around men and she saw the best qualities of men. She shouldn’t be saying this.

Is this an influence of that woman?

"Beth talked about how men only want her body and not her intellect. Isn’t that pitiful? Her husband didn’t even allow her to dress nicely and go to town. He expected her to toil on their farm every day all day and take care of the animals. And just when she escaped that life and came to the city, all she encountered were men who expected her body for favors. Even the talent agencies want women to compromise for roles. What a cruel world..."

Tony patted her head. He didn’t want to say anything. Who is he to comment about someone else’s marriage when he doesn’t know the other side? What will her husband say about her? Will he say that she loves fame more than family?

There are a lot of women who have their lives ruined by dreaming of fame. Is it right they are abused by influential men? No! Are they entirely out of blame? No. They can refuse to compromise. They will lose the role but they will have their integrity. They choose to lose their integrity for fame and passion.

It shouldn’t be that way. But it is the way it is. Men are pigs. Only some men are though. Power corrupts, and they think they can do whatever. A few refusals would bring down their ego. But no one refuses; those men have their flow of sheep that line up to be devoured to cater to their abysmal egos.

The ride was silent for some time. Tony made sure she was comfortable and she appeared to have fallen asleep.

"Will you change too, Tony?" Marcella asked in a meek tone after some time.

"Me?" Tony kissed her head. "Never."

"Good," she patted his chest. "I cannot accept you sleeping around... I..." She sniffed.

"Are you crying?" Tony held her cheek.

Marcella pouted. Her eyes were a little red. The glistening eyes looking at him made his heart skip a beat. She always is cute when she’s drunk.

"Are you cold?" He buttoned his jacket around her shoulder.

He found that he loved looking after her. He used to do that a lot in the past but after their marriage, she is the one taking care of him. It was as if their roles had reversed. She was always put together and it became hard to catch her in such a vulnerable state each passing day.

"I’m not cold," she protested. Her little arms held no strength against his arms as she tried to push him away.

"What made my little bird mad?" he asked holding her cheeks.

She pouted and turned her face. He chuckled and helped her lean on him.

"How drunk are you, Birdie?" he asked.

"I’m not drunk," she looked up. "I know where I am and I know you are my Sweet Baby... And I know I am safe...with you..."

Her eyes had little more focus and Tony blew on her face as he felt like it.

Ah, as always, she’s adorable when drunk.
