Chapter 126: The Party
Tony patted her hand and kissed it.
"Tony, was it because I hit Mellon Paul gained an ally?" she asked.
Tony didn’t tell her anything about that afterward. She thought there would be some mediation between the enraged family and her side but nothing of that sort happened.
She thought that Tony might have dealt with it secretly but now she wondered if something else happened.
"I think his family..." Tony let out a deep breath. "I heard from a reliable source that he was adopted into the family and Randy told me that there was a rumor back then that one of Mellon’s sons adopted his sister’s bastard son. The patriarch didn’t want his daughter to raise a bastard and she was not willing to give him up and so they reached a compromise."
"Oh?" Marcella was shocked. "I remember reading an obituary of one of the Mellon daughters recently. She still had her maiden name. Is she, his mother?"
The Mellon patriarch had many children and lots of grandchildren. It was said that the patriarch was very religious. She could understand why the patriarch didn’t like Andrew all that much.
"Probably!" Tony shrugged. "It is said that the patriarch left Andrew Mellon from the will and Andrew is salty about that."
Marcella was quiet.
"What? Are you feeling bad for him?" Tony asked.
"Yeah... a little," Marcella sighed. "I know what it feels like to be disowned by family. It does not feel good."
Tony leaned and kissed her forehead. "What Don did was entirely different. He tried to protect you. And you have me. We are a family now."
"I agree," Marcella smiled. She knows all that now. "But for him to be hated because of his birth is too much, isn’t it?"
"It can’t be about his birth," Tony disagreed. "His actions should be taken into account too."
Marcella agreed. But if Andrew knew the truth about his birth and his family treating him differently might have twisted him. Or as Tony said, his twisted way soured his relationship with his family. Either could be the case, or neither could be the case.
There is no use speculating.
"Whatever. He can never redeem himself when it comes to me," Marcella said.
Thinking about her small interaction with him made her skin crawl. He’s a disgusting human being.
Tony chuckled seeing her hugging herself.
"What’s funny?" she asked.
"My sweet little Birdie," he kissed her forehead. "Why are you still thinking about that day? Even the Mellon family is keeping quiet. They fear you!"
"Don’t make fun of me!" She tried to push him back but he hugged her close.
"There are a lot of bad men out there, Birdie. I’ll protect you as much as I can. Do not think about that day or about that guy much, all right? He will not try this again with you. Other men too will be careful around you."
"Has this rumor spread?" she asked.
"He tried to make it an issue and rally support on his behalf when his family didn’t help him in the way he wanted to," Tony held her cheeks. "I didn’t want to worry you and that’s why I didn’t tell you all this before. I told you, Birdie. I can handle it."
Marcella nodded. If he says he can, he will. "You will tell me when I need to stop too, will you?" she asked.
Knowing that he can handle anything, she cannot go around creating trouble.
"I will," Tony said. "But I don’t think it would be necessary," he smiled.
He is married to a sensible woman who tries her best to avoid conflict. He has no need to watch her all the time.
"What other kind of people will I encounter, Tony?" she asked.
She was a little surprised he was handling it very calmly. She didn’t peg him for someone who would take it easy. Then again, he might be keeping calm for her sake. Anyway, she knew he has her back. That was enough for her.
"Swingers, probably," Tony shrugged.
"Swingers?" Marcella raised her brows. "What are they?"
"You don’t know?" Tony asked a little surprised she didn’t know.
"Let me guess," Marcella thought for a few seconds. "They like to hang around in children’s park because they like the swings?" she asked.
Tony laughed holding his stomach.
"What?" Marcella didn’t understand why he was laughing that much. "I get it’s weird to hand around in kids parks when you don’t have kids but... What? Why are you laughing?"
Tony only laughed more as she spoke. He would stop for a second but then he would laugh more after looking at her face.
Marcella pouted. "What is it?" she asked.
It took almost three minutes for Tony to calm down. He then explained to her what swingers mean. Marcella rolled her eyes.
"That’s so stupid. You think I would believe you? You’re kidding me, right? Right?"
Tony looked at her seriously. "I’m not lying, Birdie. There are some people who like to~"
"Come on, Tony! This is too much!" Marcella stood up.
What he said is egregious. How can anyone want their spouse to enact sexual activities on another person? That’s preposterous!
"I am not joking, Marcella," Tony held her wrist.
He wanted her to be aware of such situations. He’s heard of some people in his circle who like swinging.
"Whatever, Tony," Marcella said. She still couldn’t figure out whether he was telling the truth or just messing with her. "Wait... are you... Do you like that?" she asked.
Why would he talk about it as if it was nothing?
"What? No! Dummy!" he knocked her head. "I want you to be aware of such people, that’s it."
"Okay..." Marcella patted her chest. That was a relief.
"Are you free tonight?" Tony asked.
"Yeah, why?" she asked.
"There is a party tonight. They invited me but..."
"You want me to attend?" she asked.
As she understood, some parties are important that both of them should attend. Some parties only need Tony’s presence and there are some other parties that cannot be ignored and considered too important for him to attend.
Such parties will be attended by the wife. She knew it was usual.
"Ah..." Tony scratched his head. "I’m... You’re not just my wife though..." he sighed.
She is also Don DeAngelo’s daughter. She is in a way more important than him.
"I can attend alone if you want me to," she said. "I am your wife. I am Marcella Crawford."
Tony thought for some time. "Yeah, you attend. It’s the housewarming party of some Hollywood guy... Rudolf Hemmingway would be there. You go show your face around and I’ll be there to pick you up," he said.
"Okay," Marcella nodded.
