Chapter 344: We Have You
Chapter 344: We Have You
Hu Wen Cheng looked at Zhao Jun Jie and shook his head. "I have no idea. I would like to think that if something had happened, we would know about it, but given her gifts, it might not be nothing either."
Zhao Jun Jie looked at the other man with frustration. "First of all, I have no idea what you just said. Second, what are her powers?"
"You really don’t know?" asked Hu Wen Cheng, surprised. It wasn’t like it was a secret, but at the same time, it wasn’t something that most talked about.
"If I knew, would I have bothered asking?" asked Zhao Jun Jie, raising an eyebrow. Xie Feng started to fuss in her carrier and he turned his attention to his daughter, gently patting her back.
"All that I will say is that she is The Healer. The rest is something that she will have to tell you herself," shrugged Hu Wen Cheng just as the door opened up and revealed a harried Cheng Bo Jing.
His eyes widened with surprise as he looked at the man. Hu Wen Cheng had been exposed to Cheng Bo Jing for a while, including back when they were at the fighting rings together, and not once had he seen that look on his face.
Something had to happen. There was no longer a question about it.
"Here is a tentative plan for the future of the city," grunted the former military member as he threw a massive stack of papers on the conference room table. Hu Wen Cheng half expected the table to break under the weight of them. "You are going to take over the guilds and law enforcement, and Zhao Jun Jie is going to run the city. Any questions? Forget about them. Any comments? Keep them to yourself. This is the way it is going to be."
He pushed Wang Chang Ming forward into the room and practically slammed the door behind him.
"What was that about?" asked Zhao Jun Jie, confused as hell.
"You are on babysitting duty in more ways than one," smiled Wang Chang Ming as he scampered into one of the seats and crossed his hands in front of him.
"Do you know what happened?" asked Hu Wen Cheng, looking at the child.
"I do," nodded the boy solemnly. "But I am not supposed to tell anyone because it might make people freak out. I don’t think so... but adults are weird like that. So I’m not going to tell anyone."
Wang Chang Ming nodded his head, happy that he remembered what Daddy had said. It was important that everyone stayed in the hotel until they dealt with the bad guy. Panicked adults did dumb things.
"You can tell your Uncle Hu Wen Cheng, right?" smiled the man. While his mouth might be smiling, his eyes definitely weren’t.
"You’re my uncle?" asked the boy instead, absolutely fascinated with the idea of having an uncle. He had more daddies than he knew what to do with, but he didn’t have an uncle.
"Of course I am. I might not be related to your mommy, but I definitely think of her as my sister."
Wang Chang Ming looked at the older man with an angry expression on his face. "You’re too old to be her brother. Maybe I should just call you Grandpa."
Hu Wen Cheng had been shot in the chest before, and it wasn’t nearly as painful as the ridicule he was getting from the three-year-old.
"He does have a point," shrugged Zhao Jun Jie, dropping his head to try and hide his smile, but nothing got past the old White Tiger head turned guild leader.
"Fine," ground out Hu Wen Cheng. "Can you tell Grandpa? I promise not to tell anyone."
"Okay," shrugged Wang Chang Ming. "Mommy had a dream where everyone died a really bad death, so she and daddies are going out to try and kill Alpha before he can kill us."
Zhao Jun Jie and Hu Wen Cheng shared a blank look before turning their attention to the stack of papers in front of them.
If they were going out to save everything, then they would jump into their roles and get things organized back in the city.
If fate was on their side, they would return to the city soon. And if not...
Well, they just hoped that it was option one.
----
"Are you sure that this is a good idea?" I asked as I stared at Bai Long Qiang’s back. He was leading everyone to the base and I was smack dab in the middle of my men.
But I was grateful that Wang Chang Ming was going to be fine. No matter what, he would be alive, and that was all I could ask for.
"Good idea? Maybe not," admitted Si Dong as he kept pace behind me. "But it is something that needs to be done, and there is no one else to do it."
It had never bothered me until this minute that the base didn’t have any green space around it. I already felt like I was behind the eight ball in this whole situation. The guys’ plan was to go through everything just like it did in my vision, but that meant I had to let myself be taken by Alpha.
Again.
And that was really not okay with me.
But they were right that the Reaver had to be taken out; I just didn’t have the utmost confidence that we could do it.
"I know it is hard, but you need to try to calm down," murmured Ye Yao Zu as he took my hand. He and Rip were walking on either side of me as Bin An Sha and Bai Long Qiang were in front, leaving Si Dong and Fan Teng Fei to bring up our rear.
"How about you ask me to stop breathing? That seems like an easier thing to accomplish right now," I murmured under my breath.
"We have you," replied Rip, not letting me get too lost in my head.
This time, I bit my tongue. They didn’t understand my fear because they didn’t see what I saw. They didn’t understand how real it was for me.
