Chapter 316: Okay, New Plan

My body shook as I tried to suppress the laughter bubbling inside of me, but Xi Feng still let out a little murmur of complaint.

"Remember what I said; if you wake the baby, it’s your death," growled Bai Long Qiang as he got into Song Tian’s face. It wasn’t like the guard had done anything, but we all knew that if he challenged Bin An Sha to a fight, he was likely to lose.

"She really has taken things too far this time," sighed Zhao Jun Jie as he ran his fingers through his hair. "But I have no idea what to do next."

"It’s not your fault," said Ye Yao Zu, patting the other man on his shoulder. "There is no way you could see this coming. I don’t think any of us could see this coming."

"But what are we going to do?" asked Song Tian as he looked around the room. "The people are going to be here soon to drag you away."

"Let them," I said with a sigh, not knowing where the words were coming from. But I was tired of all this bullshit.

I still had more than a few things to accomplish on my list of things to do, and they all revolved around going to City D.

So, City A needed to shit or get off the pot, so to speak. I was also tired of all the mind games that the zombies had been playing lately.

And where the fuck were the Reavers? They normally followed a zombie horde, so a tide should be no different. Where were they in all of this dumbfuckery?

Realizing that I was spiraling down just a smidge, I took in a deep breath and forced myself to the present. We needed a new plan for everyone, and I don’t think we had that much time to implement it.

"Zhao Jun Jie, take Xi Ying and go to the Retribution Guild. Let the head know that I sent you. You two will be safe there. The guild will protect you," I said, knowing that as soon as the words were spoken that that had to happen.

A part of me felt guilty for not extending the invitation to Song Tian, but I had seen firsthand just how innocent he was, wanting to save the guards who were beating him. I didn’t want him to invite others to join the guild in the misguided attempt to save humanity.

Zhao Jun Jie nodded his head and rose to his feet before strolling out of the condo.

"Can you throw in that book with all of her stuff and pack up everything she needs?" I asked softly, looking at Bin An Sha.

"Of course."

"Thank you for telling us what is to come," I said with a smile. Even if he couldn’t see me, he should at least be able to hear me.

"Of course, Angel, after all, you stepped in to protect me and healed me when no one else would have bothered." Song Tian bowed low, and once again, I felt guilty for not giving him a way to survive. The world would need him in the future.

"Go with Zhao Jun Jie and be Xi Ying’s bodyguard. Do not let anything happen to her; do not tell anyone what you are doing or where you are going. Her life depends on you keeping your mouth shut. Can you do that?" I asked, closing my eyes.

I could feel tears gathering as I thought about never holding this sweet girl again, and I tried hard not to cry.

It would be okay; she would live.

I had been a bit stressed because one part of the prophecy was that the savior would die. Technically, Xi Ying was Wu Bai Hee’s daughter and, therefore, the ’savior,’ but my heart broke at the idea of her dying.

For once in her life, Wu Bai Hee did a good thing by saying that I had eaten her baby. Now, the savior was dead, and that part of the prophecy had been fulfilled.

And once again, Xi Feng had proven her name, rising from the ashes of her ’death’ to be reborn as whatever it was that she wanted to be.

"Understood," nodded Song Tian. "Thank you for this gift."

"It will not be easy on you," I replied, my voice coming out as a squeak from around the frog in my throat. Clearing it, I tried again. "You cannot tell anyone where you are going. Not your mom, your siblings, or even your best friend."

"That won’t be a problem, Angel, I am all alone in the world right now. I appreciate the fact that you are giving me a reason for living," replied Song Tian, and my heart went out to him a bit more.

"Fine, then, if you appreciate it, stop calling me Angel. My name is Wang Tian Mu."

The guard was about to answer when the door opened again, and a very pissed-off Zhao Jun Jie stormed into the room to come to a stop beside me. "I don’t know how I put up with that woman for so long," he said with a sigh as he sat down on the coffee table beside my face. "Just her voice right now is enough to send me into a murderous rage."

"Well, let’s hold off on that for a little bit," I chuckled, still trying to keep my voice low and my body motions to a minimum. But a part of me liked to think that maybe Xi Ying wanted to hear my voice, which was why she was still sleeping. "Song Tian is going to follow you and protect you both."

"Why do I feel like I am missing something big?" asked Zhao Jun Jie, raising his eyebrow as he looked at me.

"Probably because you are," I replied with a smile. "And I would ask for you to just trust me, but after what you went through, I don’t see that happening any time soon. How about this, talk to Hu Wen Cheng and get the full story. If you don’t agree, all you have to do is leave. But if you do, Xi Ying will die."

The room went silent at my words, and I really wished that I could take them back, but I couldn’t. If Zhao Jun Jie didn’t stay in the guild building to be protected by the maple tree, then there would be nothing stopping the zombies from getting to him and the baby.

And I refused to let that happen. Nothing was going to happen to that baby.
