Chapter 315: Preexisting Mental Conditions

I looked up from the couch where I was lying down and cuddled with Xi Feng.

I had never really considered myself overly maternal, but I was absolutely enamored with every aspect of this little girl. I stroked her back up and down as she wiggled under my touch, her short black hair poking up from all directions brushed against my skin. However, she had thrown the mother of all temper tantrums not that long ago, so she was pretty tired right now, and I wasn’t worried about her waking up.

The guys were assuming that she was unhappy that they hadn’t given her her favorite bottle, but I knew it was just gas. That stuff hurts.

Zhao Jun Jie had decided to call his daughter Zhao Xi Feng not that long ago, and I think that it suited her perfectly.

He was hoping that by naming her after a phoenix, that she would rise from the ashes of this city and flourish. However, I was also pretty sure that he was naming her in the hope that she could rise above who her mother was and make a life of her own.

Si Dong had bundled the two of us up in blankets, mostly so that none of my skin was showing, but I really hated to be cold anyway.

However, since we were skin to skin, I was able to give her part of my power, ensuring that her life force was strong inside her body. I double checked her heart, lungs, stomach, and every other organ that I could, making sure that she was completely healthy.

I was worried because of how her mother was found, and that would have impacted her, but so far, it has been good.

A knock at the door startled the two of us, and Xi Feng let out a low moan in protest.

Bai Long Qiang got up from the floor where he was sitting against the couch and stormed over to the door, opening it quickly before the person could knock again.

"Shut up, or you’ll wake the baby," he hissed, revealing the stunned face of the guard I had saved weeks ago. God, had it really been that long since we’ve been back in the city?

"Sorry," the guard gulped as he looked around. I knew he couldn’t see me, but I knew he was looking. "But I need to speak to the Angel now; it is a matter of life or death."

I let out a long sigh but tried not to move so much that I was disturbing the baby. I had my priorities, and she was high on that list.

"Yeah, yours if you wake the baby, do you understand? We just got her changed and down," I heard Bai Long Qiang grumble as he stepped aside and let the man into the room. Nodding his head, the guard took a cautious step forward, only to be completely surrounded by my men before he could get more than two feet in.

Closing the door gently behind him, Bai Long Qiang leaned against the only exit and smiled. "So, what is this about life and death?"

"I need to speak to the Angel," muttered the guard. I had to give him credit for sticking to his guns, but it was pointless and a waste of time.

Refusing to disturb Xi Feng by speaking, I raised up my arm from the couch and waved it, not remembering that I was missing a shirt.

Quickly bringing it back under the covers, I hope that the guard got the point.

"Angel?" asked the guard, and I really wanted to smack him up the back of his head.

"She can hear you; just speak," grunted Si Dong as Cheng Bo Jing brought Chang Ming into the bedroom. The kid was as enamored with Xi Feng as the rest of us were, and he refused to leave her most of the time. However, with an outsider in the house, we weren’t taking a chance with either child.

"There are rumors going around that the Angel stole Wu Bai Hee’s baby and ate him. And now that the savior is dead, the city has no hope to survive the upcoming attack unless they sacrifice you to the creatures," said the guard quickly in one breath.

I had to blink a few times to figure out what he was saying. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t figure out how I ate a baby.

"What the fuck?" demanded Zhao Jun Jie as he came out of the bathroom. "Say that again."

"In addition to the Angel stealing and eating the baby, she is also a spirit power user that is using her powers to manipulate anyone and everyone near her and will kill people she doesn’t like."

The words spewed out of the guard as a look of fear flashed over his face at the sight of the leader of the city in our home. Ah, little did he know.

"Huh," grunted Fan Teng Fei from his perch by the window. "Just when you think she couldn’t sink any lower... this happens."

"You have to admit, it does wrap everything nicely for her," nodded Cheng Bo Jing, coming back into the living room. "She loses her competition, has an explanation for why her child isn’t a son, and had a scapegoat for the whole manipulation thing."

I wanted to yell at the guys that they weren’t helping my anxiety right now, but with a baby on my chest, I wasn’t going to disturb her.

"What?" asked the guard... fuck, what was his name again? Right! Song Tian. "The baby is alive?"

"The baby is alive and well," hissed Zhao Jun Jie as he stalked toward Song Tian like he had personally threatened his daughter’s life.

I was really going to feel sorry for whoever ended up dating her with a father like that.

"She gave birth to a little girl via c-section," sighed Bin An Sha as he put down the baby book Hei had somehow managed to find and looked at the guard. "The surgery was a success, and physically, she will be fine. I cannot be held responsible for any preexisting mental conditions."
