Fight, Flight, or Freeze: The Healer's Story
Chapter 317: At All Costs

Chapter 317: At All Costs

Wu Bai Hee stared at the door of her room as Zhao Jun Jie had slammed the front door behind him. He had come in, taken a bunch of clothes out of his closet, and then left just like that.

She demanded to know where he was going and what bitch he was sleeping with if he wasn’t sleeping with her, but she knew the answer.

She refused to play second fiddle to another woman, especially one like that. She was such a goodie-two-shoes, always poking her nose into other people’s problems... healing the sick and the poor.

Ugh, women like that set unrealistic standards and took all the men away from normal women. Look at her; she had seven men hanging off of her every word, and now there was going to be one more.

Whatever, good riddance to bad rubble and all that shit.

Gritting her teeth, Wu Bai Hee stood up for the first time since she had woken up in her bed, no longer pregnant.

She rubbed her stomach, missing the feeling of the solid mass under her hand.

Closing her eyes, she swayed for a minute as she got her feet under her. The pain didn’t matter; she refused to give in to the weakness. If she was going to take over the city and get rid of the fucking zombies, she needed to get out of bed first.

Her mind wandered off, trying to think about how she could deal with the zombies.

Based on past experiences, there should be an alpha that controlled everyone, even in a tide. If she could get to the alpha and manipulate him, then she would be able to have him under her control...

Along with all the zombies that he controlled.

Making her way over to the floor-to-ceiling window in her room, still thinking about everything she could achieve with an army dedicated to her, she failed to realize that she was no longer alone in the room.

"Who?" she asked, looking at the male reflection in the window. Shaking her head, she tried to turn around to confront the man who had snuck into her room.

However, before her body could respond, she was pinned between the ice-cold glass and the burning-hot body of the man behind her.

Oh well, this would make it even better. "Let me go," she commanded, pushing her power into the man behind her, but it simply bounced off of the brick wall that seemed to surround him.

Fucking spirit user.

"What do you want?" she hissed, her back straight as she continued to study the man’s reflection. He looked so familiar, but where had she seen him before?

"Ah, I liked your first question better," chuckled the man, and she could feel his body vibrating behind her.

"My first question?" she asked confused.

"Yeah... you asked who... I am assuming that you want to know who I am, right?" smiled the man as he dipped down so that his chin rested on her shoulder and their cheeks touched.

She nodded her head, a bit dazed at how handsome the man beside her was.

"Why don’t we play a game? You guess who I am, and if you get it right, I’ll give you a reward. How does that sound?" The voice of the man was like velvet, wrapping around her. She closed her eyes and leaned back into the firm chest of the man.

His smell was nothing short of perfection but one that she couldn’t put her finger on.

"Are you sure that I know you?" she asked. "It wouldn’t be fair to play this game if we had never met."

"Oh, I can assure you, Princess, we’ve met before." Once again, the man’s body shook with his laughter. "We were even very close."

Wu Bai Hee let the man take her weight as she thought about what he had said. However, no matter how long she thought about it, she had no idea who he was.

"Okay, clearly, that question is a bit too hard for you," said the man. "Let’s move on to your second question then. What do I want? This question would be a lot easier if you could just remember who I was, but that is fine. What do you think... what is it that I want?"

"You want me," responded Wu Bai Hee confidently. Shifting her weight so that she was standing up straight, her head high, she smirked in the reflection of the window. "That question was too easy."

This time, the man let out a full belly laugh as he backed away from her and finally let her turn around.

"I mean, I guess I do want you. You are right; that question was too easy," said the man as he went to sit down on one of the chairs beside her bed. "I suppose you want a reward regardless, though, don’t you?"

"I mean, good girls get rewards," she replied, raising an eyebrow in challenge. She was no longer as scared as she was before. This type of situation was extremely familiar to her, and given how attractive the man was, she wouldn’t mind sleeping with him.

It would be more of a matter of her hiding her wound from him. She wasn’t going to let a man like this slip through her fingers.

He alluded power, even more so than Zhao Jun Jie. But unlike the other man, this one also smelled of blood, and nothing was more of a turn-on than managing to control a man whom others feared.

She should feel her body reacting more and more to him the longer she studied him.

And then it hit her.

"Liu Wei?" she asked, her brows scrunched in confusion. He didn’t look the exact same as how he did the last time she had seen him, but that wasn’t a big surprise.

"No," laughed the stranger, coming to his feet. "I am definitely not him. But I will take that as a compliment. After all, I know how much you love him."

"Loved him. I loved him," smiled Wu Bai Hee, turning around to look out the window, no longer scared of the other man. Spirit user or not, she had other ways to manipulate him.

"Ah," nodded the man coming up behind her. "I’ll let him know. But it’s about time to end our little game, don’t you think?"

"But I don’t know your name," pouted Wu Bai Hee as her eyes widened with delight.

The man smiled. "My name? It’s the Butcher of the Bay," he said as he reached around and slit her throat. Shocked, she looked up at him. "And this is revenge for what you did to me and my family. If you do come back again, make sure to avoid us at all costs."
