Chapter 250: Only The Good Die Young
I looked at the guys but shook my head. I was used to dealing with people when it came to the death of their loved ones.
Well, in this case, it was pretty much telling him that his loved one had come back from the dead and didn’t bother to tell him about it.
And she wasn’t even a zombie, so I didn’t have a clue what her issue was with that whole thing.
But no matter what, it would take some time to process it before finally accepting that Wu Bai Hee was alive and well.
"You can always make a trip to City A if you want," suggested Ye Yao Zu. "Or, we have other teams that will be coming along in a few days, and you can ask them, too. Everyone has either met her or has heard of her."
"She is a favorite of the city," murmured Bai Long Qiang, rolling his eyes.
"And you said she is expecting? Who is the father? Did Liu Wei finally fulfill his side of the bargain?" asked Wei Xiao Li, no longer sounding quite as hostile.
"Ah..." I started, not wanting to deliver unwelcome news. "No. She is in a relationship with the head of City A Sanctuary, Zhao Jun Jie."
"In a relationship? So, she isn’t married?" asked the fighter, blinking rapidly. "I’ll kill that fucker. Wu Bai Hee has always been so delicate; he is clearly taking advantage of her."
"How about we all agree to disagree and move on from this topic," suggested Ye Yao Zi, a strained smile on his face as the tempers of the other men started to rise at the idea of Wu Bai Hee being mistreated in any way, shape, or form.
Clearly, she managed to do an excellent job of fucking with their minds, too.
"Fine. Anyway, don’t be surprised or react to Liu Hao Yu’s appearance. He was trapped in the fire when the mansion burned down and hasn’t been right since," continued Wei Xiao Li with a sigh. "Maybe you can heal his scars and come to some sort of agreement on your release."
My skin buzzed at his words, and I knew that I had to meet with this man, no matter what.
Bin An Sha was about to open his mouth, but I quickly cut in. "He would be more than happy to help your leader," I said just as I gave Bin An Sha a glare.
He was my quietest man, next to Fan Teng Fei, but I also knew that he was quick to temper...
And, according to Rip, had the skills to back it up.
"I still think it is creepy as fuck," grumbled another guy from Wei Xiao Li’s side, and I could see him looking around. "All these trees and shit. It’s not natural."
I had to admit that that statement caused me to blink rapidly. Trees and ’shit’ were the very definition of natural, and I was taking comfort in the fact that I was entirely surrounded by nature.
"I agree," grunted one of his friends. "We’re away from the downtown core, so how could all of this be..." he trailed off as if not sure where he was going with that thought.
Meanwhile, I thought it was spectacular. Trees towered above the buildings, and what was left of the structures was nothing more than a place to anchor the plants.
"Shut up," growled Wei Xiao Li. "We just have to make sure that we stay away from any earth power type, and we’ll be fine."
I rolled my eyes but didn’t say anything. Then again, if they were going to give someone else the credit, I might as well take advantage.
We stopped before a gate that had been covered with vines. Wei Xiao Li and his men looked a bit concerned, but they still acted with caution.
Slowly opening the gates, they shouted out to whoever was supposed to be on guard duty.
"Just me. We’re back with some company," yelled Wei Xiao Li.
"We expected you back yesterday. Thought you were zombie food, to be honest," grunted a man, coming out from behind a tree.
I was surprised to see that there wasn’t a gun in his hands but rather a sword.
I think this was the first time I had come across someone other than my guys to rely on a cold weapon instead of a gun.
"We... were delayed," admitted Wei Xiao Li after a moment. "A lot of shit has been going on."
"Yeah, figured as much. Never been much into gardening, but this... is new," chuckled the guy as he looked my men and me over. "Are you looking for the master?"
"We are," grunted Wei Xiao Li. "Any idea where to find him?"
"He’s in the living room, waiting for you to come home. Wasn’t too happy with Wan Ying for coming back with only his men," explained the guard, his eyes landing on me... and then staying.
Rip let out a low growl, and Bin An Sha started to twirl his knife as the rest of the guys stood in front of me, forcing the man to break eye contact.
"I’m not letting another Wu Bai Hee in here," he smirked, his handsome face twisted in a somewhat psychotic grin.
"Please tell me you hate her too," I groaned. Given his statement, I could only assume that he was a spirit user. Apparently, they couldn’t read me since I was also one.
But that should mean that he wasn’t able to be manipulated by Wu Bai Hee....
Was it sad that that fact gave me a sense of hope for the world? That the Princess of City A wasn’t going to become the Princess of Country K.
Or worse?
The world.
"How do you know her?" asked the man, cocking his head to the side.
"She is currently in City A Sanctuary," shrugged Bai Long Qiang, forcing the man’s attention away from me and to him.
"Well... you know what they say, ’Only the good die young.’" The guard let out a low chuckle and tightened his grip on his sword.
"If that’s the case, then Wu Bai Hee is going to be the last thing standing in this world," snorted Si Dong, cracking his neck from side to side.
