Chapter 251: Forgot He Was A Reaver

The guard’s eyes widened at Si Dong’s words as if he had completely forgotten that we were there.

However, his eyes never left mine, no matter how much my men tried to stand in the way.

"Be that as it may," he said slowly, "Those that don’t learn from the past are bound to repeat it."

"It’s fine, Zhong Bo Hai," interjected Wei Xiao Li, holding up his hands in a pacifying manner. "She is not a threat to us."

"You thought that about Wu Bai Hee, too. In fact, I was the only one next to Liu Yu Zeng and Chen Zi Han to see her for what she truly was," sneered the guard. "And look at what happened there. Our head is still not the same."

"That is only because he feels guilty to the Black Mountain Syndicate that their oldest daughter died in his care," argued Wei Xiao Li, and I was willing to bet that we had just somehow managed to step on a landmine that we never saw coming.

I saw Si Dong open his mouth to tell the other two, again, that Wu Bai Hee was not dead but rather living her best life a few days away from here. Luckily, Ye Yao Zu clasped a hand on his shoulder, effectively shutting him up.

We could repeat ourselves until we were blue in the face, and it wouldn’t change anything. We were outsiders and, therefore, not trustworthy.

"I don’t care. You can bring in the rest, but I am going to put her into isolation until the head decides what he wants done," shrugged Zhong Bo Hai before he reached forward to try and snatch me away from my guys.

"Fuck that shit," hissed Bai Long Qiang, lifting up his gun and aiming it at the other man.

Rip didn’t even bother to say anything; he just grabbed the guard by his throat and lifted him up into the air.

"Now, I think you all need to calm down," smiled Ye Yao Zu, weaving amongst the men until he was at the forefront, standing beside Rip. "There is no way we are going to let her out of our sight. So, you have a choice; you can either let us inside with her while Bin An Sha heals your head, which is why I assume we are here in the first place. Or we can kill everyone here and call it a day. The choice, as I said, is yours."

The guard, Zhong Bo Hai, kicked his feet, managing to strike Rip’s knees and thighs, but it was nothing to the Reaver.

He tightened his single-handed grip on the other man’s neck and cocked his head to the side as Zhong Bo Hai started to turn red... then blue.

I sighed as the blood vessels in his eyes started to rupture, and his eyes turned bright red. A telltale sign of asphyxiation. Most interrogators would have called it at this stage and released the victim, letting them catch their breath so that they could give them an answer.

But Rip wasn’t an interrogator. He was the executioner. And the moment the guard had wanted to take me away from my men, he managed to sign his death warrant.

"Does this go against the ’do no harm’ portion of our vows?" I asked, tilting my body toward Bin An Sha. The fact that it gave me a better view of what was happening was a pure coincidence.

He blinked at me, somewhat shocked that I would ask that question. But my vows were somewhat important to me. I mean, in a life-or-death situation, I would always choose myself. However, that was just being smart.

"Are you the one with your hand around his neck?" asked Bin An Sha, his head tilted toward mine as he answered my question with one of his own.

"Nope," I replied, shaking my head. "But I know that if I asked Rip to drop him, he would."

"Ah, that’s a pretty big assumption there, Firefly. I mean, yes, that could happen. But Rip might decide that the human in his hand is too big of a threat to you and snap his neck before dropping him. By saying nothing, you are really protecting the moron... I mean, victim. So, in conclusion, by not saying anything... you are ’doing no harm.’"

I blinked rapidly, trying to wrap my brain around his explanation, but Bin An Sha simply shrugged his shoulders before turning his attention back to the man.

"Were you a doctor, too?" asked Wei Xiao Li, clearly overhearing the conversation between me and Bin An Sha.

"I was," I admitted. "I was in charge of the Emergency Room in City D before the end of the world happened."

"She is my assistant," chimed in Bin An Sha, only to have both Si Dong and Fan Teng Fei burst out laughing.

"Sorry!" said Si Dong, clearing his throat as he tried to suppress his laughter. "Inside joke."

"She is a spirit user," gasped Zhong Bo Hai, and I was impressed that he still had the ability to speak, let alone continue to argue his point. I guess that Rip wasn’t going as all out as he normally would.

"Look at you, showing restraint," chuckled Cheng Bo Jing, shaking his head. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one to come to that conclusion.

"I thought I wasn’t allowed to kill him. Did you change your mind?" asked Rip, raising a single eyebrow. "It’s been a while since I last ate a human. I wonder if they are still as gamey as before."

I think Zhong Bo Hai would have turned pale if the oxygen and blood hadn’t been as effectively cut off as they were. Wei Xiao Li had definitely turned a shade of white that I hadn’t seen before.

"Awe, you forgot that he was a Reaver, didn’t you?" smirked Bai Long Qiang, lowering his gun and relaxing one of his arms on the butt of the rifle.

"There are also two other spirit users in our group if that is your issue. Si Dong and I are more than happy to stay with Wang Tian Mu if that would make you feel better," offered Ye Yao Zu.
